A bowl of pumpkins acts as a centerpiece

If you're in the Amarillo area and enjoy beautiful scenery and/or plants, don't miss these gardens. This place is an amazing but likely under-appreciated gem. The gardens pack quite the punch in less than 5 acres, so you can make your visit short or take your time. There are a number of well-designed spaces, each with their own unique touches. We visited on a Sunday, the day after their pumpkin festival was held. There were many varieties of pumpkins along paths, in bowls, and on benches, adding a cohesive flair to the entire garden. Despite recent cool temperatures, the gardens were in full bloom. We particularly enjoyed visiting the greenhouse/conservatory space with its tropical plants, waterfall, small ducks, and colorful pheasants. Be forewarned that the humid environment required by the plants and birds means frequent misting, so protect your camera. If in the area again, we will definitely repeat our visit.

My sister and I came in the fall and really enjoyed our time here walking around and seeing the flowers. It was beautifully decorated with different gourds and makes for a very comfortable and pretty walk. Now... two things: 1) If you have pollen allergies, take something before you go in there. I knew better and didn't - my fault. But I still had a great time. 2) If you venture into the observatory thingy (enclosed area) either have some VERY POWERFUL mosquito repellent or go in dressed as a Ninja. The mosquitoes in there are vicious! My sister was wearing a cute little dress and she almost looked like she had the chicken pox from all the bites. I was wearing leggings, sneakers and a jacket... there was about half an inch of skin exposed between the bottom of my legging and the top of my socks - they found it and attacked!

Pleasantly surprised! We are from out of town and wasn't sure what else to do besides see Cadillac Ranch. I found this place and was SO GLAD I did!! The place is not big, but whoever designed this place made every square foot with a purpose. Each and every part was so gorgeous and had several interesting things to look at. My favorite part was probably the green house. GORGEOUS plants, trees, and a cute little pond with ducks! Although, it's a hard competitor against the elegant koi fish pond where you can feed the fish with food from the office. Excellent bang for my buck, I believe I spent $12 total! $10 for admission ($5 each adult), and $2 for the koi fish food (50 cents a bag). Not to mention that they're pet-friendly! Our puppy had the best time there as well seeing all of the different bugs and birds. Highly recommend!!!!

It was a nice relaxing walk. Nothing to exciting. We got their soon as their festival was over but it looked like they had live music, and shopping booths. Their is a big pond and park in the back to fish or go for a stroll.

We wanted to go to the zoo but the weather wasn't permitting so we ended up here instead. Such a pretty place! Fees are reasonable for adults and kids, active military are free. Plenty of parking spaces. The indoor garden is very well kept. There was a bird that roams around in it that is so beautiful but we couldn't get a chance to take a photo of it because it kept running around LOL! We brought kids with us and they enjoyed it as well.

Wonderful for a small dose of nature in the city! Just traveling through but glad we got to see it.

Modest size gardens can be experienced in about an hour. Many themes throughout kept it interesting. Unfortunately, February deep freeze killed many plants, so a lot of replanting is underway. Weather was perfect to enjoy the gardens.

The Amarillo Botanical Gardens isn't like big city botanical gardens but it is special to Amarillo. I really enjoy going here to escape and enjoy the simplicity of it. It's not too big but all of it is very thoughtful planned out. There is even a small waterfall inside the greenhouse. And it's kid friendly

Not a lot in bloom yet. But it was full of life and beauty! The tropical plants were happy inside a greenhouse with eye-catching angles. There were oranges and beautiful flowers, waterfalls, palm trees, vines, and more. Outside was a nice grassy area, seemingly popular for weddings and such. There was no entrance fee, but of course donations could be made. My boys loved taking pictures of everything!

They had a greenhouse that looked like a jungle when I walked in, and it had some ducks inside.

We were first attracted to the glazed pots outside because they had such a nice collection of colors. Then we walked into the greenhouse and were greeted with the heavenly fragrance of petunias from the many hanging baskets above the rows of plants. It's one of those nurseries where you can find just about any kind of plant you've been looking for. All of the plants are beautiful specimens in tip-top condition. The greenhouse adjoins another greenhouse that is decked out with very luxurious patio furniture and decor and is followed by more rows of plants to the right and the main store entrance to the left. It's absolutely gorgeous in there! We sort of explored this business in a round about way, but eventually made it to the front section of the store which is a large room nicely decorated with antiques, collectibles, and melamine dishes... all for sale! This place is pricey, I would say twice the price of what you'd pay for a comparable product elsewhere, but it was such an unexpected gem we ran across while cruising the countryside that I think it's something everyone should explore when in the area. You will be delighted.

The place buzzes with curiosity from the moment you walk in. I kicked things off in the Sun, Earth & Universe gallery, pressing buttons to trigger solar flares and playing with real-time space weather--instant brain tickles that felt both geeky and awesome . Then I zipped over to the Outdoor Science Park, where a life-size T‑Rex and Triceratops loomed over a fossil dig pit. Kids were scooping up "bones" while I dodged tennis balls flying from a launcher--science meets playground shenanigans . Later, I curled up in the cozy Treehouse Reading Nook, surrounded by bird chirps from the aviary above--a peaceful contrast to the chaos of color bombs and bouncing probes . The highlight, though? The Space Theater, a full‑dome planetarium that launched me from Earth to black holes in minutes--complete with dramatic music and enough stars to rival my ex's eyes . It's clear DHDC is more than a kids' museum--it's a playground for inquisitive minds of all ages. Traveling exhibits keep things fresh, and a recent "Beyond: Unity in Community" display even won a national award for celebrating Afghan culture . Educational programs, planetarium shows, story times, and even sci‑fi-style "KABOOM!" demos fill the calendar . By the end of my visit, my cheeks hurt from smiling, my head buzzed with fun facts, and I momentarily considered launching myself into orbit. Instead, I left with a grin, a handful of newfound cosmic trivia, and a plan to bring all my friends next time. Bottom line: Don Harrington Discovery Center is science with soul--equal parts spectacle and insight. Whether you're a kid, a curious adult, or just someone who likes lasers and dinosaurs (who doesn't?), this place throws the perfect brain party.
