This is a hidden gem in Amarillo. Matter of fact, when you plug in the directions to find the place, you will actually be looking for the RV Sales Center. The "free" RV Museum is the labor of love of the owner of an RV sales center. Over the years he has come across some great recreational vehicles that were either sold or given to him. He has taken the time to restore them and showcase them in their glory. At the entrance, the sales people are super friendly and will immediately direct you to the back lot and a large building holding the museum. They didn't even try to engage me in pre or post sales talk to judge my interest. I was so thankful this didn't end up being a bait and switch for a high pressure sale. The museum is a wonderful collection of camper vans, RVs, and accessories through the ages. They have the oldest Slipstream trailer from the 1930s in addition to more recent paraphernalia from each decade since then. Many of the campers are open so you can climb the steps and wander inside to see what passed as creature comforts back in the day. Most include bathrooms, showers, stoves, refrigerators, sinks, and cushy seating areas that convert to beds all in the colors and textures fashionable at the time of manufacture. If you have done any camping in your lifetime, your sure to enjoy a walk through this free museum. It's best visited in the winter when it is cool, but bring a jacket to stay warm. During the summer months, it is difficult to keep the building cool as seen by the large fans throughout, so perhaps visit in the early morning before the afternoon sun heats the place. read more

For free, you can't beat this roadside attraction. We're RVers, so our kids loved looking in all of the antique RVs and checking out how the amenities have changed over time. We really enjoyed how they had time period specific memorabilia as well like toys, food containers, and newspapers from the times the specific RVs were built. read more

READ THIS REVIEW if you are thinking about going to this museum. This was a spur of the moment stop for us, and we were shocked. This was by far the best museum of any kind we have gone to, and it was free. If you have even a slight interest in historic rv's, motorcycles, vehicles used in movie sets, etc then you MUST visit this museum. We were warmly and kindly greeted by the very nice lady at the front, showing Texas hospitality at its finest. Seriously, first impressions mean a lot and the lady at the front was so welcoming you felt like you were right at home. She allowed us to tour alone but she let us know she was open to answering any questions we had, and offered us bottled water. We were floored at the condition of the historic rv's (our main interest). Talk about stepping back in time. I was shocked to see that 1930's rvs had an oven and 3 burners (better than what our rv has now!). You get to walk into and see rv's through the decades, most in their absolute original form with manufacturer fabrics. Each item also has information signage that tells you the history of that particular vehicle. We spent an hour going through the displays, but will be back to do it much slower. We met the owners Dad as well, and he was so kind that we trusted them enough that we are going to store our RV in their storage warehouse. We left an un-solicited donation at the front because we were THAT impressed. Seriously, this is Smithsonian quality displays... and you are allowed to walk IN TO the rv's! read more

A hidden gem, literally!! A little tough to find off an access road with little signage, but WELL worth the hunt. Incredible collection of RVs, most in outstanding condition for their age. The best part is that you are encouraged to go in and look around inside them. They are not just shells either. the staff's attention to detail is fantastic. My wife and I enjoyed the RV museum hidden inside the larger RV sales lot. Pull up to the welcome center, go inside and they will direct you out back to the museum. Once there you are free to climb into the RVs and take all the pictures you want. We stopped in on a quiet Friday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. They have exhibits dating back to the 20s and 30s that had been wonderfully restored. In addition to RVs, they also have quite a few Harleys on display. I enjoyed the original Winnebago dating back to the 70s. Overall the museum is very done. We got through it in less than 60 minutes. Stop in and say hi plus it's free admission. read more

I consider this one of those unofficial Route 66 stops that just has to be seen. Okay this was one random stop we made while driving through Texas and it was honestly one of our favorites! You by no means have to be an RV enthusiast to snobby this stop. We certainly were not however we are fans of vintage items so this was a real treat! The RV's were so fun to look at, you get to go in most of them and peak around, many of them were 100% original and all had a fun back story. There was even a World War II Harley Davidson in there and there was only two in the world like it. Best part, it's 100% free! So if your driving through the area and want something unique to do I highly recommend this! read more

I can't give this business any rating . We couldn't find it. We went to the address on the Amarillo things to do guide and it was Gander RV sales. Called the number given. It was Gander RV Sales. The girl that answered said it had moved. Gave me the new address It was 10 miles out of town on 27. We went and there was nothing there. No one there. The building had a sign it read "Jack Sisemore RV Storage". So we left. I would have loved to see the old RV's. With some research we found out that Camping bought Jack out. So I guess it's closed read more

This museum was above my expectation. They not only have a wide variety of RVs, they also provide historical background on each of them. I also love that in each of the RVs, they included artifacts of the period in which the RV was used which ranges from the early 30s to the 1970s read more

Wow, we read this was one of the best FREE things to see in Amarillo. We came by on Memorial Day, on our drive from Great Falls, MT to Austin, TX...and were sad that is was closed for the weekend, but on our way back home today we came by again. What a great museum. Packed full of jewels and I loved all the information they had provided on each of the trailers, campers and motorhomes. We were so glad we stopped. And the people working here are super friendly. We spent about an hour walking through. I also loved that they let you go into some of the units. They also had them furnished with memorabilia from the era of the units. read more
