We went and saw The Little Mermaid today and it was a nice show for the kids. We spent over $100 on tickets for my nieces and nephews. Very pricey imo. My niece is in the show and I was shocked when she told me that the kids have to be rich to get a part. Most of the main characters have parents that are doctors, lawyers, business owners, etc. and all sponsor the show. Which explains a lot since some of the kids were hard to understand. That makes me sad for the kids that parents can't afford to donate and sponsor money. Being a kid is hard enough but knowing you can't do something that should be about talent and not wealth is not what community theater should be about. read more

I was in town visiting family and we took the nieces and nephews to see the Little Mermaid. I left my glasses in the car so went out to get them. An employee was smoking very close to the door and I reminded him that children were around and maybe he could go elsewhere. He cursed at me and said his mom was the board president and he could smoke wherever he wanted. Quite surprised, to say the least. Then, at intermission, the worker sneezed into her hands and continued serving cookies. Hate to wait in a long line just to decide I'd prefer coffee with a cookie and not germs. I wish this theater would consider all body types when casting their shows. I attended the little mermaid as a chaperone and as we were leaving some little girls were sad because the villains are always larger and the princesses always littler. They were sad because they would only be seen as a villain if they ever wanted to act. I hope this theater recognizes and celebrates diversity in all the female body types. I hope they do better in the future so that little girls won't be stereotyped by their body type. read more
