Wow what an awesome spot! We came for some vegan charcuterie and some finely made cocktails and we weren't disappointed! Our bartender Riley was super cool and funny and took excellent care of us. Everyone we sat near and around was social and friendly and it seemed like a bit of an upscale neighborhood bar. I was super jealous that it wasn't in my neighborhood by the end of the night! It was just my luck that I happened to be in town and to walk by San Simon the HOUR they opened to public on Monday, October 7th, 2019! Their gorgeous sign struck my eye and I texted a friend to come and meet me as soon as she could. We visited the bar around 3pm and there we're quite a few people already seated and enjoying their drinks! I ordered the Mezcal cocktail, Spanish for Paper Plane, and it was INSANELY DELICIOUS... I mean it was so good that I had to order a second, twist my arm... but really, get this drink! yummmmm yum yum. We checked off the items we wanted for ~build your own~ charcuterie board and even took a gamble on some tinned "cockles" which are sort of like clams (?) in brine - the risk paid off! The board (I think we ordered the first one!!!) presentation was absolutely spectacular, Ashley did a fantastic job plating us up. My only note to the owners would be to change the portion on your cheese, even if you have to up the price a bit, the portion just seemed MUCH smaller than the rest of the items ordered. I also expected half the amount of olives and honestly I don't think we could finish them all, though we tried! The atmosphere here is absolutely perfect, it's like a comforting nook that you never want to leave. I would have spent hours here if I had a deeper pocket book but I really can't wait to return. The staff was super super super friendly and helpful and silly and just the right amount of attentive. Tried San Simon this past weekend, and I was not disappointed. My fiance and I were in Central Oregon for the holiday weekend, and always like to hit up downtown Bend due to their great food and drink scene... but we had never come across San Simon before, so we gave it a try. Not only were their happy hour prices great ($7 classic Old Fashioned with good liquor and a big cube? Yes please!), but their regular drink menu was also reasonably priced for a cocktail lounge and the drinks we tried on it were perfectly crafted (Painkiller & a Mezcal Margarita). The service was also top notch, with very friendly servers that weren't in your face at all.. perfect balance. I also really liked their guidance on masks. With Oregon's rules being so ambiguous and tough to decipher, this restaurant had a sign that just encouraged people to be courteous and kind, which is where I'm at with this whole thing too. This isn't what made the experience great, their service and drinks were phenomenal, just a little side-note that made it nice as well. read more

My absolute favorite late night hang out spot in Bend! It has a cool/swanky vibe that's also chill- you can dress up in heels for a date night or be casual. It's nice to have a cocktail bar with all of the breweries in town since I don't drink beer. The highlight of the place for me was the build-your-own charcuterie board!!! I loved the ability to pick and choose what you want to, from cheeses to meats to pickles. I personally loved the pickled green beans (perfectly sour with a slight spiciness to them)! I appreciate them curating their board offerings and not just serving us cheddar cheese and salami with ritz crackers like some other places. Cocktail menu is excellent (the Painkiller and mezcal drinks were great) and the bartenders really know what they're doing. This place is quite hidden, we parked in the Chase bank lot and walked around to their little alley outdoor area. They have 4 propane gas fire pit tables outdoors, highly recommend trying to snag one of these if you're here after the sun goes down because it can get chilly. There are some tables indoors but with Covid we prefer to be outdoors as much as possible; they also have another 4-5 tables outside but there aren't any heaters/fires by them. Came here on a Saturday night at 9pm and was able to move to one of the fire pit tables after being served our first drink- we asked the server to move us as soon as one became available. After 10pm there was a bachelor party (about 8-10 people) and another group of 14+ people that arrived, which filled up most of the outdoor seating so I would plan on coming here before that time if you want to be able to grab a spot. The atmosphere was intimate and chill until the two large groups came; we found ourselves yelling across the table to hear each other at that point because they were standing and hovering behind us. I don't know that it's a good place for such large groups since their tables only seat 4 but the server eventually made the group split up and sit at 3 different tables, which helped with the noise. read more

But some quick facts: - The art is all fantastic. Take a close look, and be amazed. - They have a permanent shrine inside, which at the time of my visit seemed focused on George Floyd and other victims of racist police brutality. This is something I can get behind. - The cocktail list is so delicious and fun! Affordable by PDX standards, too. - Seems to be quite LGBTQ friendly. I love giving my money to a good ally! - Fun little food menu that focuses on build-your-own charcuterie and such. Lots of tinned fish, which is unique. Attention to detail is the name of the game. These people have so much taste, so much warmth, and so many good vibes. Spend some time with them, you'll be glad you did. EDITED TO ADD: I forgot to mention all of their COVID-specific safety measures! This place really had it under control. First, it was obviously set up to have staff-assigned tables, and with a special permit allowing them to take over the (adorable) alleyway, there was plenty of space in between groups. I absolutely love this little bar. Come here with friends (pre Covid) often but this was our first time back since. They have cute fire pits and and heaters outside and inside the tables are well spread out. There was sanitizer on each table as well. A new "locals place". If you're not from the area, and someone has told you about this place, consider yourself loved. A cocktail lounge that is the absolute perfect size: Any larger and you can get lost in the sea of people and you won't receive the attention you deserve Any smaller, and the place wouldn't be able to fit you and all your friends, and all your friend's friends. Like all good cocktail lounges, the owners are actually on site, serving the clientele. No absentee owners here. Enough people have talked about the innovative and unique cocktail list, but I'm here to assure you that if you were to give the bartenders ANY classic drink to make, they will rise to the occasion and give you an amazing example of what you want. And, oh yes, the small plates are delicious. And they have a really unique assortment of virgin drinks as well, perfect for the designated driver among you. Finally, let's talk service. Cozy and romantic atmosphere, even in Tin Pan Alley. We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. Even though there aren't many food options, we've liked everything we've ordered. The sausage panzerotti is delicious and pairs well with the salad. The Sparrow rustic bread and rosemary/sea salt almonds are great starters. I especially appreciate that they have a non-alcoholic beer option, Athletic Brewing's Run Wild IPA. It is amazing and full of the hoppy IPA flavor you expect. The service is quick and personable. I like that the waiters/waitresses engage in conversations with the customers. San Simon was quick to adjust to COVID regulations and I appreciate their use of Tin Pan Alley for additional seating, even with occasional movies on the outside screen. :) read more

This place is awesome! It gives serious speakeasy vibes, located in an alley and super dark/moody inside. Our Uber driver recommended it, otherwise I don't know if I'd have ever found it. It isn't for those who want cheap well drinks or frankly really even anything heavy to eat...but it's worth it for the experience. Tried this place. As we entered thru the alley there appeared to be outside seating but everything outside was not lighted, and no one was sitting outside. Upon entering all tables and the bar seating was full. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait. While we waited, three other parties were seated outside. Upon approaching the waitress to ask her why others were being seated while we waited she initially apologized that we hadn't been offered the outdoor seating. And then truly ruined all hope of customer service when she told me that we saw the seating outside when we entered the establishment. Lost our sale. And we won't return.
