If you bring things it has to be in a cooler, no glass, no styrofoam and there is a no tolerance rule on alcohol they will absolutely kick you out, no refunds. We brought a wagon (seen parents with strollers) and a small cooler for food and things. (Sodas, veggie tray, fruit, snacks) the workers WILL CHECK COOLERS so be weary! If you get there early there will be picnic tables available, you can also bring folding chairs and tables, if you don't bring either they allow quilted or picnic blanket. Please also know the water is EXTREMELY cold, 63 degrees, so if you bring little children I would recommend going to the kitty area that doesn't fully submerge them and that is tolerable. Life guards are everywhere so no worries there. The slide is also not there anymore but for a bit older kids there is a something they can swing off of that you'll pass when coming in. There's really something for all ages. THE WATER IS CLEAN!

It's the first thing I need when I go work out. The weights area is good, and people are generally polite about letting other people use equipment between their sets. The bad is that the front desk is beginning to nickle and dime people when they want to borrow towels. Not only that, but you have to pay a fee for their "towel service". Then proceed to pay fifty cents to a dollar for every towel you borrow from then on. There's always a entrance whose out of commission, or the finger print scanner don't work. The natatorium is closed for most of the day for who knows what. One of the showers in the girls locker room doesn't work, and each shower has a ball of hair from all the girls who brush their hair in the shower or shave but aren't considerate enough to pick their hair up after they're done using the shower.

When we spoke to one of the employees, they said it's free parking this time of year. A Google search said paid parking is on weekends and holidays from March 1 to Labor Day. If you want to enter the pool area, there is a fee with discounted rates for locals, seniors, and kids. We didn't have any swim gear with us, so we opted for a hike around Barton Springs. The path we took essentially circled the Barton Springs pool. It was a relatively easy hike and the only difficult part was the hot weather. The bridge was the most interesting part of the path, but other than that, it wasn't terribly scenic. On the backside of the pool, water flows out through a spillway into Barton Creek. No admission is required on this side. However, there isn't a lifeguard here and we ran into a few unsavory characters there including a person that was shouting profanities at the people in the Creek. If we had a do-over, we'd aim for earlier in the day and maybe a larger loop so we get further from the pool area.

There is no shade to speak of when in the water, so be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen. They have lockers to store valuables on site, but you need to bring your own lock. They also have dedicated dressing/shower areas and relatively clean toilets. If you don't use a locker, you have to place everything on the sides of the pool in the grass/dirt (be sure to bring a picnic blanket if you plan to hang out there at all). The grass/dirt area is nicely shaded. No beverages apart from water is allowed by the pool. Entry fees were $5/person for Austin residents. It was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

It's basically the Platonic form of a gym. Yeah, you've got some cardio equipment, but it's basically a weight room that has free weights and machines for any exercise you could want. On the wall there's a chalk board with the male and female one-rep max records for bench-press, squats, and deadlifts. Guy who works there is friendly and helpful as well. Best of all is that if you're not a member, a day pass is only two dollars--and that includes sales tax. I am seriously excited about going back to the San Marcos Athletic Club day after tomorrow for Leg Day.
