We've loved our time at the YMCA in Buda! Childcare for my older kiddo while hubby and I workout has been solid! I really like the pool. Always clean, in good condition, and normally people have been great at sharing during busier times! Hot tub is great with plenty of space! I also like the warmer pool which is wonderful on my joints and not as hot as the hot tub. Perfect balance and lots of space for all ages. The lifeguards have always been great and make sure kids are safe and have the right wristbands based on their swimming abilities. Lots of workout equipment, all in good condition! Definitely not substandard equipment. I've never seen all the treadmills in use, and half of them aren't closed all the time like other places. The only machines I wish they would add are SkiErg machines! I appreciate the weights and how nice the other people at the gym have been. Very supportive and patient! I have not used a trainer yet but am considering it! The utilities have always been clean. Sure. The showers need a little extra clean, but nothing super gross or black moldy. I do wish they had dressing rooms separate from the showers, but I'll survive! My favorite thing is the staff. SUPER FRIENDLY, each and every one, and that's very special. Staff are so cheerful and friendly. This being a very old building, its not really easy to make the place shine like a newer building but I find it to be clean and well maintained. I notice the pool water is checked hourly and there are plenty of lifeguards. Some fixtures in the locker room are a little old style, but so what. They work and some better than newer ones Ive seen in other places. I love the sauna and equipment rooms. They have a lot of treadmills stair steppers and rowing machines. Teachers are available if I have questions. There is a plethora of classes! Even Qi gong- theres exercise dance, yoga, senior fit, strengthening, weight lifting yoga etc A lot of seniors are here and Im loving making new friends with active people my age. Ive been a member for only two months and my body definately stronger and Im sleeping better. I now have days when I feel fantastic and not just okay. I make it a point to go work out 3-4 times a week. Also theres a basketball court and other games. Im so glad I joined! Thank you YMCA staff- keep up the good work! read more

Over the years. Hays ymca has not been updated. They are changing the weight room and cardio room around - the cardio room is losing all of the windows and it looks like they're only keeping cardio equipment with televisions. (To me... this is going to be a 2 out of 5, but I'm reflecting 4 out of 5 because of the staff in the building always wanting to try with the limited resources that the Austin YMCA gives them to work with.) The gymnasium houses gymnastics equipment on about 25% of the floor, so the gymnasium is not fully functional. Usually, only basketball can be played on the weekend. You can usually hit a volleyball near the gymnastics equipment, but wish there was storage of the actual equipment so the space could be used to its fullest potential. Austin YMCA does not have a competitive national YMCA Gymnastics team or facility. This is very unfortunate, as the national YMCA gymnastics program really fuels competitive gymnastics in other areas of the country. The YMCA has not wanted to build in Kyle either. It's now a 20-30 minute drive for Kyle/San Marco's residents due to the development in the area when you go to the "Hays county" YMCA. The name should be considered to be changed to south Austin or north Buda YMCA. I've contacted the Austin YMCA and also the national branch with no result of interest in expanding for one additional location in the city of Kyle. Camp Moody is about 1/2 a mile from Austin city limits and does not have childcare, but the building has a lot of windows so it doesn't feel tight. They do continue to build YMCA's 1.5 hours away from Kyle up closer to Round Rock. I've never been since they're 1.5 hours from my house - so I'm not sure if that's where all the amenities are hiding. The TLDR Is - I love that they have outdoor pool areas at southwest Austin and hays county during the summer. They have the basics of any ymca, childwatch, Pool, gym, cardio, weights (camp moody doesn't have childwatch). If you're coming from a different ymca that provided you with a lot more amenities - it really likely requires you to live in North Austin as I do know that the ymcas in north Austin advertise a whole lot more of amenities and continue to build YMCA's up there. I'm not sure if that's where the philanthropic donors that the YMCA seeks out live or if these were the selection of the director and staff. I really hope the director of the Austin YMCA provides funding to the "hays" county ymca for an expansion to add on .... Or for the funding to build another ymca where there is still population growth in Kyle/San Marcos. News articles have been showing de-population of round rock/cedar park and north Austin in general, as well as the inability to sell homes up there. Hoping that Hays county gets a second location in the central portion of it (which is the southern portion of Kyle). Staff is 5 out of 5 - they always are willing to help and strive at doing their best with the limited resources that they are given. The childwatch staff is so kind and welcoming!! The administrative staff is always willing to listen and they really do respond to you, which I have a lot of respect for. Again, it's difficult to change what I've mentioned above, as the organization primarily places money into the Austin locations and hays county YMCA gets left over funding. read more

Staff is great, who ever the amenities coordinator is ruins my experience. They book out the basketball court more than it's available to the public. I understand blocking portions of the court but to pay 100$ a month for me to not have access to the basketball court before work is insane. Why book the court hours that working class is going to come use the amenities. Why leave it open from only after 12pm on weekdays EVERYDAY. Insane. Staff is super friendly and the facilities are up kept every time I'm here. More transparency and better planning for the public would be nice. read more

I'd say this YMCA is Good. 4-stars. It's not perfect, but it checks most of the boxes I'm looking for. The parking is solid here, it does fill up, but there are spots you can find. The front desk and customer service has always been pretty solid here. They answer all my questions, they are polite, they greet you and say good bye when you leave. I primarily use the swimming pool here - indoor - and it's been pretty good to me. Generally the water temp here is slightly better than other YMCA pools (Townlake Austin is the coldest). Sometimes they will take up 2 lanes for swimming lessons which is fine. The lifeguards here are like other Y's, they are young but they are friendly here when you interact with them. Sometimes repairs here can take too long. They shut down the jacuzzi for a few weeks to repair it, that was a bummer. I went recently to swim and noticed how the pool temp was colder than usual. They did not know why. I went back 2 days later to find they have shut down the pool because the heaters were not working. Now we know why. They have no ETA as to when that will be fixed. The swimsuit drying machine was down for a month for repairs. There is also no social media or real-time communication about changes, updates, maintenance stuff. You have to go to their Y-page website and it's buried in there. It would be nice if they just had a Facebook or Twitter acct so they can post updates or news, that way I know ahead of time. Cleanliness could be better. Sometimes there's a slight odor I smell when I'm in the pool - not sure if it's like a mold or if it's in the water, but it's there and it is just slight - not that prevalent. The bathrooms at times are not well kept up. But the men's urinal area - it's real "peachy". The urinal cakes they use in the men's bathroom are peach scented. They are very strong and kinda smells like a tasty peach schnapps. I'm not a drinker, but if I was, I'd be in love w/ those urinals. So if you're going to AA Classes - be careful, that peach schnapps - oh yeah, baby. Let's hit the closest bar after our workout at the Buda YMCA! read more

Overcrowded, long waits for equipment and machines. They sell an unlimited number memberships (not cheap, either) and have no plans to expand. We really need other options in the area but there are none, especially with the explosive growth that has occurred over the past ten years. On the plus side, the staff is great! Always friendly, helpful, keep everything clean. All the people that use the gym are polite as well. It's just so crowded from 4 pm till close that it's hard to get the workout you want. read more

This is a great place to drop off kids and let them run around. I rarely am impressed though. The outdoor pool is generally over staffed and I always have some sort of problem checking in. Usually the staff is clueless. I imagine turnover is crazy here. There is really no better alternative though if you do not live in a neighborhood with an HOA pool. The cell phone room (Weight Room) is really small and dated. It's nearly impossible to find an open bench without a teenager searching the internet of taking pictures of themselves in cut off shirts. Not that that is a problem, but good luck using the equipment. They have many options for workout classes, but the times offered are generally suited only for retired people or anyone who has an odd schedule and no kids. They have childcare-ish, but this seems to be best suited for kids who are a bit older like 4 and above. The cardio room is probably the only respectable part of this facility. There are not many alternatives to the area so this what we are stuck with. read more

They very often will shut down different features or amenities, randomly without notice, they write it on a whiteboard as you walk in. Also if something is broken or down, it'll normally be out of commission for months. Additionally, they don't care regarding complaints. Since it doesn't really impact their overall business. Restrooms are often dirty with an odor however, you can get around this by, not using their facility and waiting until you get home. read more

Very dirty, they are not cleaning the place. Maintenance not keeping up. Locker room floors appear to not be cleaned in a LONG time, smell moldy and musty. Water filter from water fountain never gets changed. It never smells clean. They need to step it up. Will also be sending a complaint to corporate. This YMCA has a lot to offer: two pools, plenty of decent equipment and classes. But I can't get over how filthy the men's locker room is. I brought this up to the front desk a month ago and then to a manager but nothing has changed. I am looking into another gym because this is unacceptable. UPDATE (COVID EDITION): 1. Outside - nice area, well landscaped, pleasant parking lot to enter with plenty of parking. Wheelchair accessible. BE CAREFUL ON WEEKENDS. The soccer parents coming/going to and from the adjoining fields routinely drive 40 mph or faster in the parking lot. It is a disaster waiting to happen, especially with so many children coming to the Y as well as the soccer games. It is so glaring a problem that I'm sure it is in the process of being addressed. 2. Entry is nice. Staff at front desk are friendly and efficient. Sneeze guards are in place. Social distancing maintained. Some staffers don't wear masks out on the floors, unfortunately, but most are mindful, empathetic, aware, and do. 3. Weight machine/Cardio area is clean, well-spaced, and the machines are generally well maintained. Please wipe them before AND after use. The staff wipe them about hourly, but be responsible, safe, and considerate and help them out - we are all in this together. 4. Free weight and cardio room weight machine areas are still very popular, so find your crowd-quotient-timing-comfort-zone. Camping out on machines is a growing issue in the cardio room weight area - probably due to newcomers and those unacquainted with Y etiquette (even though that is one of only five rules posted in huge letters on various walls). 5. Basketball courts are new and high quality. Great kids league play on weekends. Pickleball available. 6. Indoor pool is rarely too crowded and area around there is clean. Pools are well maintained. Outdoor pool is great for kids. 7. Locker Room (men's) is clean and adequate. Definitely miss the professional scale, and hopefully it will be returned. Management is quietly effective at this Y and deserve accolades, respect, and support for their efforts. The Hays Y is fantastic! read more

The Sauna is constantly having issues. For weeks the door wouldn't close right. Finally the closure crapped out and it was down for over 3 weeks to get the closure repaired. Now it's fixed, one of the heating elements stopped working so it only gets warm. The wood floors in the sauna are almost black from people with shoes tracking dirt into there with wet floors from sweat. The jacuzzi is constantly down due to thermostat issues. Locker room looks like there is mold in some corners. Tile looks dirty like it's never been steam cleaned. They completely replaced all the machines and treadmills with a brand that looks like a new car, but the base model. The treadmills are way cheaper looking. If it wasn't for the 2 hours of Daycare they provide, I would go elsewhere. read more

My family has recently gone through some financial strain but we were still aiming to be active but it's just been too hot outside for me being pregnant and our 9 month old son. We stumbled across a financial assistance tab on the YMCA website and applied for it. Fortunately we were accepted and truly grateful for this wonderful program as we wouldn't have been able to afford to go as a family for the time being. When we went in person to register with the financial aid added, we were treated very well and I was surprised because I thought we'd get lesser treatment because of it. The staff were very friendly and really accommodating. We are excited to be able to work out and be able to utilize the childcare center for our son. When we went the childcare center was closed, but we saw staff cleaning it. There's one room for 8 weeks-3 yeara and another room for 4 years-12 years. The rooms were large and have a clear view into them. So for our first day there, we decided to take my son swimming in the indoor pool and he had a blast while my husband worked out. Our only complaint was that they didn't allow floaties even though it was just me and my son in the family pool (he has an infant float) they also said they don't allow floaties in the outdoor pool. I understand if it's packed, but it was only me and him in the family pool for an entire hour. Wish they had some exception to this rule as we have a second baby coming soon! I'd still recommend coming here and also checking out Camp Moody! One thing to note is Camp Moody doesn't have childcare available read more

The Buda Y is now outgrowing itself. There are too many members and not enough gym space. Even though they try to make more space by moving the cardio equipment closer together it just doesn't quite fit anymore. I guess it's hard when you're the only gym around......(hence the knock down to 4 stars). BUT the staff are still super friendly, always chatty and willing to help with anything you might need. I've heard a rumor that they're going to expand the facility almost doubling in size! I'm looking forward to enrolling in some of the yoga classes that they're offering when my schedule opens up a bit more. Sadly I haven't been in a while, though the hubby goes at least 4 times a week. And he L.O.V.E.S. it there!! read more

Hey finally an email area to message you guys on!! Yay! Been waiting for almost 2 weeks now!!! I have been trying to return the calls from when I requested a phone call after an "incident" at my very first visit to Hays YMCA. Every single time someone called me it would be at 455pm and they were leaving a message saying they were leaving for the day . ... or "I am running into a meeting". Clearly not trying to solve my issue at all. and not trying to actually do anything about it. If you call at 455 pm and you are leaving in 5 minutes How am I supposed to return your call? The issue was simple. My son took a swim test. Was congratulated high fived and told he passed . Upon walking to go get his wrist band. he was then told by someone else he didn't pass. Then when I questioned who was the "person in charge" or who are we supposed to talk to about this I got snide remarks and the very young girl who was in charge stated " whatever we say is what goes" . Then another kid walked up and said he could retest and when my son started jumping up and down excited and went and dove in to the pool another young guy came up and said theres no retesting same day. THEY WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE !! And when I asked who was in charge ,I was more trying to clarify why they had 3 different stories and asking what their deciding factors were, which they still never explained to me as to why he didn't pass. And why did one person come up and say he could retest and then another came and changed that too. IT WAS A MESS!! ! MY son kept getting super happy , Then all the sudden SUPER let down!!! OVER AND OVER!!! I am fine with my son not passing if he didn't pass the "swim test" rules. But for someone to high five and congratulate him and then when he's jumping up and down excited someone else comes up and says "sorry we can let him pass" . That's a very rude and ugly thing to do to a kid!!! Then to change your mind again a 3rd time!! OMG!!! I was very upset and very embarrassed by how they treated me as a mom in front of a full swim area of people. I felt shamed and felt like my son was very hurt by this as well. They never looked him in the eyes or spoke to him. They acted as if he wasn't there. None of them would look down at him to speak to him. VERY RUDE. I honestly didn't know what to say so I asked them all their names. and then I turned to walk off they all burst out laughing really loudly and I quickly turned around and said " I am sorry I am not sure how this is a funny thing at all to do to a little boy , You guys clearly don't know what your doing over here and I will be speaking to your director!!. Get your stories straight and on the same page. And when someone asks for clarification its not right to mock and act patronizing!". I then left and asked 2 different staff at front desk for a email or phone number of someone to log a complaint with . Which , none of them could retrieve. Then the older staff women who came up said she heard what happened and was very upset herself and would be talking to someone to have them call me back. Which I did get a call from someone above the aquatics director and he stated on his call "I am running to a meeting maybe we can talk another time". I am moving to Buda and this will be my ymca now. Which really sucks because I don't want to even ever use the swimming facility based off how immature rude and patronizing the young staff was. I have gone to the Townlake ymca for a few years and NEVER had this happen. Infact at the Townlake Ymca they over explain things and actions which I LOOOVOE and they do LICE hair checks upon entering your child into the childwatch area. By far a way more classy environment and run with more respect for our community members. I am very appalled by Hays YMCA and would never recommend it to anyone. Unfortunate that I am now going to be using this facility daily. And might drive way outta my way to use the TOWNLAKE YMCA on days that I have more time. I went and did a short workout yesterday and was once again upset by your staff members being so lax and almost like "air headed" or "clueless" and I hate saying that even because we don't do name calling in my house. BUT, I asked a few very simple questions about classes and class times and none of the 3 people at the front desk knew my answers. I was then just referred to "look online sorry". I literally feel like this place is run by children that are volunteering from the high school. I could be wrong. But its not professional and NOT a place I am happy to be going to . Maybe someone here can change my mind. And maybe school your ymca pool staff on how to do a swim test the proper way and speak to adults . I also want to mention they never once looked my son in the face or talked to him and told him themselves that he didn't pass. They spoke to me and acted as if he was not even a human. My son loves their mother's day out program! The teachers care about the kids and he always comes home happy. The program is affordable for my family and anytime my son gets excited to go to "school" I know we're on the right track. PLUS...the staff is always kind and helpful. The head guy, Brett, is amazing and does a fantastic job running the place! My only negative...even though I don't like bad comments....and the reason I didn't give them a 5-star is the childcare for my youngest while I work out hasn't met my expectations. They don't seem to get on his level...they just sit in the rockers while the kids are expected to roam around and play on their own. I know it's a tough job and I would LOVE if they'd engage him so I could get more than a 20 minute workout in before they call me out. It's pretty rough to actually WANT to get in shape again just to then be called back to a red faced little boy who's been crying since I left. A little more action and effort on their part would be great! I hope that aspect changes so we're not training my little guy that he just has to cry and I'll come right back for him. Hays Communities YMCA - You guys rock!!! - Gyms Near Me - Buda, Texas

Decided to sign up my daughter for gymnastics for January and decided it would be more cost effective to sign up for a family gym membership. Unfortunately, if someone is a veteran, they cannot take advantage of the discount along with a family plan. Then, the lady that signed me up, cared more about collecting all fees associated with the gym membership rather than signing up my daughter for gymnastics. My daughter ended up skipping January as a result. In February, daughter started the gymnastics class for 3-5 year olds (the website states their classes start at 18 months, none were available. I received special permission from their lead to sign her up for the the older class). Because of the bad weather, she only attended 2 classes of the 4 for February. However, by the last class of the month, the young teacher along with her assistant, decided that my daughter was not mature enough for the class (there were a total of 3 kids total). I decided to cancel the family gym membership but sign up daughter for swim classes in March. This went without a problem. Today was a different story while attempting to sign up for April. Apparently, if your kiddo is already in a class, they don't roll into the next month, nor is their spot even reserved as a precaution. So, good luck getting a spot for the same time for next month! Avoid this place. They don't care and they don't have a good program for any of their activities. read more

This is for the pool mainly. We tried to go swimming on a Saturday mid day. The lap pool was empty but was freezing cold. Being indoors it was a no go for us. The only other option was a postage stamp sized free style swim pool. While the temperature was perfect, it had been co opted by a family with screeching kids who were playing a game of let's take turns jumping on the noodles. It would have been impossible to try and swim. They saw me at the edge of the pool and made no attempt to modify their behavior. Initially I thought perhaps it was a swim class so I approached the life guards and they said no, it's just a family. The life guards also seemed defensive when I told them I was not interested in attempting to swim in that situation oddly enough. They looked surprised after offering me a pair of swim goggles to deflect from being splashed. We won't be back. Pro tip: if you are located in South Austin, skip this place and visit the location at the Y, much larger pools. Also this location does not have an outside pool, merely a splash pad. :( read more

Been a member since they joined and they are extremely welcoming. The rates are very good, especially when you utilize everything they have to offer. Their customer service is very thorough and I always leave with my question answered. I am especially a fan of their financial assistance program. I do not use it at the moment even though I could qualify since I am in a place where I can afford the membership without any help. But I've had to use it in the past and I have several friends who have had to use it as well. It's pretty simple and it helped a lot, the woman who runs the program is extremely helpful and got me sorted quite quickly with it. I think it's wonderful that the Y has such a program in place for those who struggle financially as they believe everyone should get a chance to utilize what they have to offer. In my opinion having access to the cardio equipment, the weight room, the basketball gymnasium, childcare and all three of their pools (not to mention the hot tub and sauna!) the membership is worth it by a landslide. That's not to mention the variety of sports, cooking classes, socials and other programs that you can utilize. I am in love with this place and I intend to use what they have to offer for as long as I can. read more

I usually go there to lap swim around 7:00-9:00p.m., and there's always a lane open. If anything, it's too empty compared to other YMCAs. From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. the HS team and classes take over , and its only one or two lanes open. Water is a good balance. I wish it was a deeper pool though. It's 3ft on one end and 5ft on the other. I'm not a fan of lap swimming in 3ft. read more

It's clean!!! Really people, need I say more about a gym? To me that is one of the most important thing. People at the Y have been great to me. I let membership lapse because my credit card expired so it caused for major drama. Once I started visiting with the woman in charge of membership she helped me get everything figured out and was great. Their staff is great and super friendly (most of them). I had one snot-nosed teen, but I will throw that in the category of teens aren't always model employees and not review that experience. I just feel blessed to have something like this close to home. This place might be good for some but I have never been treated so badly by other members. When brought to management's attention they had a meeting but it really never improved. Pickleball is why I joined but with no rules and no monitoring the more seasoned players do whatever they want including being totally rude and making lame excuses for not playing with you. The same seasoned players are always on the best courts and never sit out and rotate with players that are less skilled. For a so called Christian organization this is so against the Y principles but no one stops them. I have cancelled my membership and the abusers will have to live with their actions not me. I did not join or pay their high dues so I can be abused. read more

Best family gym and close to home. All the yoga teachers are so inspiring. They actually inspired me to become certified in yoga. Everyone is super friendly, always greeting me when I come in and never missing a goodbye, have a great day! The childwatch employees are great with kids. My kids actually enjoy going there. I had an incredibly great experience that motivated me to join. Truly, it came down to the people working there (though the facilities exceeded expectations). Alexa gave me a tour and was super knowledgable & friendly. Following the tour, I knew I had to join after such a great initial experience. I don't think I've ever experienced quite this level of ineptitude and apathy in customer service at any other business or institution. If you ask them about classes, they NEVER know the answer off the bat, ask each other...lots of blank faces, "Did she know about...?" etc to each other, or "He's not here right now, and I don't know if..." type stuff. So so so untrained and/or don't care. The paper handouts in the lobby (which weren't always accurate) seem to have stopped completely, and the website is hard to navigate unless you know which category your class is going to be under. Truly it is a wonder to me that the place is still operational. Must be because it is a chain. An independent business run this way would last a year, tops. read more
