    Lunch Chile Verde

I went for the first time on Friday and... it was amazing. I feel like I had been missing out on peak Mexican food my entire life??? I'd come here again everyday if I could. The service was really quick, there weren't a whole lot of people in the restaurant when we were there. I loved it, my food was amazing, I WILL be coming again.

San Luis I has been a pandemic saving grace. I can't even count how many times we have ordered take-out to satisfy our love for Mexican food. Their chips and salsa is always delicious. They even provide 3 salsa options of regular, hot, and salsa verde. I like spicy but dang the hot is hot. I can't hang, to me its just hot and kind of blows out your palate so I stick with the regular and salsa verde. The Tacos Ensenada style has been my go-to order as of late. They are really good tacos (three tacos served on soft flour tortillas, topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole) served with rice and beans. I have gotten these tacos with fried fish, grilled fish, and shrimp. I get the sour cream on the side and add as I please, as they put too much on tacos in my opinion. The tacos are made with flour tortillas by default, I typically prefer corn, but as these tacos are so big and filled with yummy ingredients the flour is honestly needed to hold it all. Another stellar dish is the Especial de la Cocina (chicken, steak, and shrimp grilled with bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, then topped with cheese dip). It is served with rice, beans, guacamole salad, and tortillas. My pictures are the lunch portion which is still a very filling amount. Go for the corn tortillas as they are made in house. San Luis does not hold back on the cheese sauce which I salute them for because who doesn't love more cheese sauce? Thank you, San Luis, for being my favorite Mexican restaurant and a consistent happy during these unprecedented times. I can't wait to dine inside someday again soon but honestly, their food travels so well and is almost as delicious at home in my sweatpants. If you would just add black beans, you would be perfect!

Food was fine but did have the depth of flavor I had hoped. Chips...fine but no real taste if corn. Salsa...fine but no real taste of tomato, garlic or onion, or anything else...lunch of pollo s la cream was fine but no distinctive flavors. The staff was great. Service was prompt, but all in all it was only an ok visit.

San Luis has been my main Mexican place for almost than 10 years. They provide some of the best priced and tasting Mexican food in the area. You can probably find cheaper but I'm sure the quality of lower. Usually get the some sort of fajitas, or one of their specials of the day, which is usually a price reduction on other great menu item. Pictured is the chicken fajitas from dinner. Always tasty and come our super hot on a sizzling plate. i usually pair with corn tortillas and a pacifico Clara cerveza. If you like Mexican food, and love in Greensboro definitely check out San Luis. They actually have 2 other San Luis Restaurants and they also own Casa Valletta, all are great places to eat great Mexican food.

You'll have to ask my son-in-law what this is?

I remember going to UNCG in the '70s for my MFA and being horrified at the lack of ethnic food in our area. Growing up in NY, I was used to every cuisine at my fingertips. But when I asked my landlady in 1974 where I could get some fresh bagels, she sent me to Friendly Center to the grocery store for frozen Lenders bagel and when I told her I like lox, she said in her charming Southern accent, "Sugah, head to Fleet Plummer Hardware and they have all the locks y'all could possibly want?" Even the pizza store on Tate Street did not know how to cut a slice but rather served it to you cut into 50 little squares. As my beloved Grandma would say, "Oi vay!" Well Greensboro has come a long, long way! As our community becomes more and more diverse, so do the restaurants and their offerings One of my all-time favorite spots is San Luis for Mexican food. Like they say, "Go where the locals go!", and I always see a large crowd of Latinos eating inside San Luis which is always a good sign! I have been going here for years with my kids when it's time for Mexican and it never disappoints. My son-in-law chose San Luis for his 40th birthday meal and he is a Mexican food expert, so there!! I guess the place could use a little sprucing up, but in a way it's part of the charm. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and you can barely sit down without being asked what you would like to drink and a huge bowl of warm tortilla chips and salsa are brought to your table. The portions are plentiful, and there is always a second meal to take home in a doggie bag. I am a creature of habit, and although I have occasionally veered off track to try some of their other dishes, I seem to always come back to their fajitas. Sizzling hot, delicious, plentiful, and with all the trimmings. I recently tried to break out of my box and tried their brochettas which are also scrumptious and quite healthy. Let's face it, Mexican dishes have basically the same 10 ingredients but it's amazing to see how many variations the menu can come up with using those same items in a different format and presentation. What sets San Luis apart is that it is done so well with a homemade feel, great taste and hearty servings and the staff is delightful and there to make your experience a positive one. Although the San Luis further west is more modern, I tend to gravitate towards the one near UNCG for its homie feel and convenience. Like I said, when it comes to good food I am creature of habit. San Luis is one habit I do not want to break!!

San Luis Seafood!!!!!! OooooMmmmmmmLllllll!!!!!! Dine in tonight and I just had to try something different than just the Shrimp cocktail or a regular Big burrito. Light, cook to perfection with a variety of Seafood like their seafood platter. The dinner plate was sooooo delicious; sort of wished I held back on the cheese dip and tortilla chips. The single plate had Fish, scallops, shrimp, crab meat and what is this meat? ; I can't put my finger on it. Is this octopus? Now this was definitely unexpected. I seen it on the menu. Extremely super delicious.

    Vegetariano Chimichanga

I stopped here last night for a late bite not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. This is a simple not fancy restaurant that offers excellent food. I settled on the vegetarian chimichanga. The chimichanga was absolutely delicious. I love how they.listed a vegetarian chimichanga option because normally I have to ask restaurants to.remove the meat and add beans and veggies with rice inside . The customer service was also on point along with their prices.

True to its namesake, there are brightly colored folk art designs throughout the restaurant in line with their Mexican heritage. The trees that make it look overgrown from the outside actually serve to allow sunlight while masking the surrounding city, facilitating the transformation that makes you feel like you're in Mexico City. We came at an off-peak time in the afternoon and it was nearly empty. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and attentive. I was pleased to see some unique menu offerings like Birra Ramen and Sopes that deviate from the standard American-friendly fare in most places. Drinks were good - we had a regular house margarita, a triple berry margarita, and a jalapeño cucumber margarita. All were tasty and I would order again. I tried to order a Mezcalita, since it's not often I see a Mezcal option, but they were out of that particular liquor. We tried to get street corn as an appetizer, which they were also out of. We got cheese and salsa with chips instead. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa generous with the cilantro, and the cheese bold and warm. For entrees we had the Al Pastor Quesadilla and the Birra Ramen. The quesadilla was good, though the beans on the side were pretty bland. The ramen was a unique and very tasty option, and I was not able to finish such a generous portion. I think I'd leave the cheese out next time since it made some weird textures, but the flavor was great overall. Overall, there are some small things to improve (having menu items in stock, bland beans) and the prices were a bit high, but we had a great experience overall. I'm not often in the area, but I'll certainly eat here again if I am!

The name Bandito Bodega is extremely accurate, as the store itself is a small and unassuming looking place, with a charmingly decorated interior and some indoor and outdoor seating. It was very convenient to order at the cash register as soon as you walk in, and the staff was very patient and efficient. I adored the unpretentiousness and individuality of the place. It did not need any flashiness or grandeur- just some good food and good vibes. Now the food: WOW I was blown away by the pork belly garlic fried rice. The pork belly was so incredibly fatty and perfectly crispy, the shrimp add-on was juicy and well seasoned, and the fried egg over a bed of DELICIOUS steamy garlicky fried rice was absolutely perfection. And they do NOT skimp on the portions. This heaping bowl was just $15, and it was generously topped with the pork belly. The ambiance is casual and relaxed, typical of any fast-casual restaurant. At my earliest opportunity, I opened the box, which was stuffed full of pork belly, garlic noodles, broccoli, and scallions. The noodles had just the right amount of sauce, and the pork belly was perfectly cooked. The portion was so large that I ate some for lunch and finished the rest for dinner, and didn't need anything else either time. The ramen was very flavorful although it felt like something was missing compared to Cali but overall very delicious! The only thing I didn't appreciate was the price. The cup was tiny and priced at $11. There wasn't enough room for additional consommé (juice) in the cup. I honestly think the cup could be a little larger for $11 or add more meat. My friend says the Quesa Birrias ($17) were good but they still prefer La Costenita's. Personally I don't like La Costenita's, because the meat and taco shells are extremely dry. But that's why we're all entitled to our opinions and preferences. :) The item that looked like a quesadilla was really tasty and only $7! It reminded me of a taco sandwich lol. The lady that took my order could of been a bit friendlier but I understand most people in NC aren't friendly at all. She insisted I add cheese after repeatedly explaining I do not like cheese and advised to dip my taco sandwich in the ramen but there wasn't enough juice in my ramen cup to even attempt that. Overall the meal was delicious, I've tried many places and this is at the top of my list. I would return when I'm craving something authentic but the pricing needs to be adjusted for what you get.
