    Spinach queso dip
    Dennis S.

Found some perfect matches today. The salsa and green hot salsa, perfect. Green salsa mixed in to the salsa adds heat to a flavorful chunky salsa. The spinach queso dip is a great accompaniment to add on top of fajitas. Also love the way they serve the spinach queso, in a tortilla shell is smart! Service was okay, make sure you order multiple of your drinks in case cause they take a minute. But they were friendly and overall a good experience!

We stopped in for a quick drink and a snack, and we're not deterred by the current Yelp rating. I'm glad that we decided to give it a try. It was quiet, and the restaurant was extremely clean, and everyone was very friendly and personable, particularly our bartender. The margarita was the perfect balance of sweet and sour Probably one of the best I've had in a while. I really enjoyed their chips. They were light and crispy and perfectly salty. We did not eat a full meal, but we would definitely return based on this experience.

This location has ample parking. We were greeted by the nicest hostess. She sat us down right away. As soon as I saw the portrait of Frida Kahlo as we walked to our table, I knew we picked a great spot. Our waitress went above and beyond. She checked on us frequently. She refilled our beverages and offered us extra chips/salsa and dips when she saw us running low. The waitress brought salsa bowls for each person at the table. The salsa's texture is just how I like it...not too thick and not too thin. It is definitely homemade. I could have bought a gallon of it to take home. I really appreciated that the menu was not overwhelming. It was lunch time, but I chose the Supreme beef tacos. They come in three without a side. I asked for a side of rice, because my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, lol. Not this time. It wound up being the right portion for me. The beef is seasoned so well and the toppings with cheese, sour cream and tomatoes really completed this dish. The rice was a nice choice, because it was fluffy and had the right amount of seasonings. I cleared my plate. I may have left a grain of rice, but that is it. My eyes darted over to another table as they were being served margaritas. I was tempted, but I will have to try that another time. I really like the artwork throughout the restaurant. We sat at a booth, but their high back chairs actually looked very appealing if you were to sit at a regular table. They have a nice size bar in the back. I am definitely impressed. Can't wait to come back!

There was such a chill and laid back atmosphere for my Saturday lunch. I was able to get the California burrito for lunch and it was perfect! Just the right portion size, it came with a side of rice or beans. The rice was nice and fluffy and perfectly seasoned. The server paced us perfectly and provided prompt service. She's brought us the most perfect house hot sauce, I absolutely love the house hot sauce at any Hispanic restaurant because it fresh, made in house and varies in heat level. This tomatillo based house hot sauce was amazing, spicy & flavorful, please ask for it if you visit. And with visiting for lunch, dining is a little cheaper which is reflected in the portion sizes. Who walks to be weighed down after lunch when you have things to do! I will definitely be back, I spotted some margaritas on the way out that I have to try next!

You kind of forget about this place, what with all the Mexican restaurants that have opened in the area over the last 10 years or so, but it was one of Greensboro first Mexican restaurants, maybe the very first. Salvador Ornelas and Anselmo Arellano opened the original restaurant on West Market Street in late 1988, and had opened 2 more on different ends of Battleground Avenue by 1992. These two men are part of large, extended family from San Jose de la Paz, in the state of Jalisco, who came to the East Coast of the US, and started opening Mexican restaurants, the first in Georgia in the early 1980's. At one point it was estimated that family members operated over 75 Mexican restaurants, including the Mexico Mexican Restaurants here (2 remain open currently), La Carreta in Winston, the Rio Grande restaurants in the Greensboro area, and at one point at least, La Bamba on State Street. Though similar in many ways, these restaurants are operated independently. I was on my own for lunch Friday, and I stopped in here on a whim - Tex-Mex sounded good, and I'd not eaten here in quite awhile. I ordered the Mexican Sampler, which was comprised of a hard shell Beef Taco (still enjoy one from time to time), a Chile Relleno, a Tostada, 2 Beef Enchiladas, Rice, and Beans ( priced at just under $13). The chips and salsa here are solid, if not spectacular. The items on this sampler were much the same, and I'm fine with that. The Chile Relleno and the Beef Enchiladas were probably a bit better than "solid", in fact very tasty. The service was very good, the interior clean and colorful, if a little dimly lit. I ate my first meal at Mexico Mexican Restaurant shortly after it opened IN 1988, and I still find the food good - and it is what it is, primarily Tex-Mex, with a few traditional dishes (Carnitas, for example) available, as well. From some of the reviews there seems to be less than a consensus on the quality of the food or the service, but my visit was very pleasant.

    Chile relleno... seriously.

And I had such high hopes of starting 2022 on a positive note! The reviews of Mexico were a bit mixed but the good ones raves about this place. I should have listened to the negative. All I wanted was a couple of chile relleno and a side of refried beans and rice. Standard Mexican fare. I knew something was wrong when there was no refried beans and no rice available as a side. I'm not kidding. Let's order anyway just so I can do a review. Sometime I should listen to that little voice that tells me to run... run far.when I opened the styrofoam box and saw what is in the attached picture I was wondering what they sent me. I never had a relleno as small as this. I never had in that was stuffed with an indiscriminate ground meat, if it was meat. Oddly I was halfway through the first thing when I realized there was no pepper! No wonder this "dish" had no shape! I will tell you what it was though and that is salty. A salt bomb to be exact. Also pretty sure that there was no batter associated with this, seemed to be coated in egg wash alone which is a pretty good trick since there was no discernible whole pepper. My son had something called quesabirria... greasy is the only word for it. But the chips were okay although the salsa, and I use the term loosely, had zero flavor. This was a huge disappointment even at the inexpensive price of $25. So yourself a favor and stay away from this poor excuse for a restaurant. In an age where things are going poorly overall (bet you miss Pres. Trump!) establishments should bend over backwards to please. This isn't rocket science, pay attention to what you establishment is putting out there. A complete lack of respect!

Shrimp with Spanish rice and vegetables

Well I don't know where to begin but I do know where it ended. Long day, went to go get my hair done. After 3 and a half hours, needless to say we were starving. We were going to go to to this lovely tampoon restaurant where they serve the most delicious food. At that split second from turning left to Right my better half Buddy says let's try this Mexican restaurant. No problem we ate Mexican way over a dozen times. We went in very nice hostess and was seated at a very clean table great atmosphere. He left the menu and as I was looking at it, I said to buddy there is nothing special here about anything not even the appetizer were simple. so we ordered a spinach dip appetizer with chips. Like I said very simple menu the other choices were cheese and guacamole. Here comes the spinach dip smh not at all hot. Looks like the took canned spinach and mixed it with cheese and microwaved it. Next was the main meal so quick we didn't even get two chips in the dip. main meals were shrimp with scallops and cheese with Spanish rice served with lettuce and tomatoes and sour cream on the side. Buddy ordered the chicken with Spanish rice and vegetables. Omg one bite of the rice and scallops I was done. Didn't even have to chew the scallops they dissolved along with the mushy rice. Now watching Buddy eat his food was so disappointing because he enjoys good food also. His chicken looked flabby and the so called Spanish rice was just like mine. Not SPANISH. I clearly asked for the check. The only thing that was nice about this place was the waitress. I don't recommend this place. Maybe it was the cook but enter at your own risk. I'm highly disappointed

    Vegetarian quesadilla.
    Paul S.

Ok, first of all, let's be honest, when you are reviewing mexican food, you are reviewing the subtle differences, because for the most part all mexican restaurants are very similar to what they serve and how they serve it. Once in a while you come across a gem though, and you have to really pay attention to why you like it so much. With this restaurant, I noticed a few special things: 1. I ordered a vegetarian quesadilla. It came out with a buttery, crispy, perfect tortilla on the outside, and what seemed to be marinated onions, and all sorts of vegetables on the inside. No skimping on good ingredients like many vegetarian items, and the subtle spice flavors made it clear the cook enjoyed his work. 2. The rice - you know how you usually get dry, boring rice at most places? Not here, it was moist, fluffy and nicely spiced, and I was there at the end of the night when it should have been a bit stale. 3. Presentation - Everything was presented nicely and looked appetizing. So, this is a winner in my book. And of course you get nice warm chips and fresh salsa right when you sit down and the price is very reasonable.

Th's Iver had in my entire life in the portion was ginormous! Nacho supreme is definitely for two people. Nachos are my favorite food so I eat them everywhere! These are hands-down the best. The kids quesadilla was outstanding. The food came very quickly and our server was on point

    Chorizo bean dip
    Karina C.

When I can't get to my favorite Mexican restaurant, and I want some chorizo and queso dip, I come to Mexico. The service is lacking, but they make up for it on the food. I tried some of the tacos (all chorizo) from the taqueria the last time I went, and they were WONDERFUL!!

This is what my husband found on his Arroz Texano. Plastic! There was plastic on his food. Would never order food from this place again.

True to its namesake, there are brightly colored folk art designs throughout the restaurant in line with their Mexican heritage. The trees that make it look overgrown from the outside actually serve to allow sunlight while masking the surrounding city, facilitating the transformation that makes you feel like you're in Mexico City. We came at an off-peak time in the afternoon and it was nearly empty. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and attentive. I was pleased to see some unique menu offerings like Birra Ramen and Sopes that deviate from the standard American-friendly fare in most places. Drinks were good - we had a regular house margarita, a triple berry margarita, and a jalapeño cucumber margarita. All were tasty and I would order again. I tried to order a Mezcalita, since it's not often I see a Mezcal option, but they were out of that particular liquor. We tried to get street corn as an appetizer, which they were also out of. We got cheese and salsa with chips instead. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa generous with the cilantro, and the cheese bold and warm. For entrees we had the Al Pastor Quesadilla and the Birra Ramen. The quesadilla was good, though the beans on the side were pretty bland. The ramen was a unique and very tasty option, and I was not able to finish such a generous portion. I think I'd leave the cheese out next time since it made some weird textures, but the flavor was great overall. Overall, there are some small things to improve (having menu items in stock, bland beans) and the prices were a bit high, but we had a great experience overall. I'm not often in the area, but I'll certainly eat here again if I am!

The pork belly was so incredibly fatty and perfectly crispy, the shrimp add-on was juicy and well seasoned, and the fried egg over a bed of DELICIOUS steamy garlicky fried rice was absolutely perfection. The ramen was very flavorful although it felt like something was missing compared to Cali but overall very delicious! The only thing I didn't appreciate was the price. The cup was tiny and priced at $11. There wasn't enough room for additional consommé (juice) in the cup. I honestly think the cup could be a little larger for $11 or add more meat. My friend says the Quesa Birrias ($17) were good but they still prefer La Costenita's. Personally I don't like La Costenita's, because the meat and taco shells are extremely dry. The lady that took my order could of been a bit friendlier but I understand most people in NC aren't friendly at all. She insisted I add cheese after repeatedly explaining I do not like cheese and advised to dip my taco sandwich in the ramen but there wasn't enough juice in my ramen cup to even attempt that. Overall the meal was delicious, I've tried many places and this is at the top of my list. I would return when I'm craving something authentic but the pricing needs to be adjusted for what you get.
