As a choir director they patiently worked with me in the purchase of a fleet of choir robes and stoles. My wife is now a Lutheran pastor and they treated her with the same courtesy as they would any Roman Catholic priest as she picked her ordination alb, cinctures, and a stole or two. Stempers is THE place to go in town for just the religious items one needs. The brothers do have a sense of humor that we embrace. It is touching to know that they still fill all employees' cars with palm leaves as they depart work the Saturday evening before Palm Sunday. Then, if a church calls in a panic that night because they forgot to order them, the employee who lives closest can deliver the leaves in time for that all-important worship mass/service. That is just one example of their empathy and sensitivity to the Christian community they serve.

What it lacks for in size, it makes up for in curation. These booksellers know the Bay View audience and have thoughtfully handpicked their stock to suit. I noticed that they have a few bookclubs--I can't remember all of them but there is one that focuses on books about wine. So, if you're looking to learn more about wine, you may have found your spot. They have a nice selection of social justice books and have a solid supply of graphic novels as well. For myself, I was able to pick up a collection of short stores while I was in. I buzzed the door, walked up to the second floor, and as soon as I opened the door, the cozy and intimate space immediately put me at ease. I had a table just for myself! The process is super smooth and not at all overwhelming. You get to do your own thing, but the staff are attentive -- they check on your drink, walk you through the candle-making process step by step, and then guide you to the scent bar. Even though I was surrounded by couples and friend groups, it never felt awkward. My drink, New Moon, was delicious! It comes served in a little box, and you get to open it to reveal the drink -- such a fun surprise. My candle turned out amazing, and I can't wait to burn it. The whole experience took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, including around 25 minutes for the candle to fast chill -- just the right pace for a relaxing solo night. There's only street parking, but there are quite a few spots nearby. I parked a little farther away since it was a busy Friday night.

Park at the Public Market for the easiest way to find a spot or wait for a spot on the street. I am not sure about accessibility as it is a few steps to get in the front door.
