The office most definitely need to be more diverse it's all Hispanic ( not good when you see no diversity in the office their the first point of contact and that speaks volumes when you enter a public arena and you see the diversity at first sight). My child has been in the school from kindergarten to current (9 years). The school does offer high standards of teaching, ( academic standards are high) zero tolerance is the standard and kept . Testing is accurate , behavioral standards are required at a high performance. Overall O'Farrell is a High performing school . TOP OF THE LINE IN EDUCATION IS PROVIDED at O'Farrell . Mrs Anderson is the best Principal she's involved and easy to communicate with. Very hands on and involved in the students and keeps the staff sharp on there toes . Awesome listener to the students and there parents needs. I'm not a fan of the lottery either for existing students, I strongly believe they should have a guaranteed spot if they've been Excellent students with Dean List and Honor roll awards. Through out there years at O'Farrell and there not a problem . Work ethic , Grades, behavior speaks volumes( all this should be a major consideration for existing students going to high school at O'FArrell) . My daughter is a high performer while navigating through the crisis we face from the COVID-19 epidemic. Mrs Anderson has hired responsible teachers that are going above and beyond to make sure the students are reaching there academic Goals. When a problem arises it's resolved immediately. Suggestions are implemented into lessons . Mr Vose is an awesome Home Base instructor who makes sure he's reachable at all times while keeping up with the students academics . I pray the high school instructors are hands on, involved mentally and I'm emotionally just as the elementary and middle school instructors. Navigating Through the crisis isn't just a word but a mission to sink or swim perish or survive while in the crisis.

The teachers are kind, caring, and consistently go above and beyond, even with limited resources. I have nothing but praise for the entire staff--Dr. Pham, the principal, the teachers, and the administrative team. Their dedication and compassion are evident every day. They've even recently opened a park that is shared with the community, further showing their commitment to creating a positive environment for both students and families. This is a fantastic school.

This is a part of San Diego that's seen little in terms of investment, and homeowner churn (thanks to Prop 13 this means less tax revenue), until recently. This year the school is seeing considerable, much needed, investment with new facilities and improvements which bodes well for future generations of Explorers. Many of the staff have lived and even gone to this or nearby schools, and they truly care about the students and this community. Our daughter went here and learned English as a second language quickly, thanks to the compassion and attention instructors gave her. The principal, Dr. Pham, is a treasure I hope continues to lead Boone's students, staff, and parents into a new age of academic and civic excellence.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL!…read more 0/10 would NOT RECOMMEND There are better schools on the area! The principal here is not active. Anytime there was an incident involving my children she never knew what happened. She doesn't return calls. She doesn't care about the students. My child female child was assaulted by a male student and sustained injuries that required her to go to the hospital. The incident happened early in the week before a spring break, which is 7 days. I called the principal left messages with the office staff(Linda) and did not hear back about what actually happened, how it happened, who was supervising and what the solution would be until after the break ended. The way that it was handled was very unprofessional and concerning to me as a parent. It made me think about how many more incidents like this happened and went unreported. The only reason I ended up getting a response was because I got the school police involved and when speaking to the officers about the assault they informed me that there was nothing reported in the schools database! That was just one of many incidents that happened. Many times where bullying occurred or actually physical unwanted contact happened to my children from other students that I would only know about because they came home and told me. One of my children was supposed to return to this school this year but I refused to go through another year of my child's education being neglected and spending time in a place where they don't feel safe or heard when a problem occurs. Staff leaves children unsupervised. Bullying goes unreported. If you advocate for your child they retaliate against them with unfair disciplinary actions. The office clerk Linda is the rudest lady I ever met in my life. She hangs up on parents. Has the worst attitude ever. But there was one lady in the office her name is Veronica she was very easy to talk to and tries her best to get answer from the principal but I could tell by how she was approaching the situation that there was a lot of things out of her hands as far as how things were being reported to the district and how situations were handled. Also Ms. Ausby was amazing. Even with those two amazing individuals apart of the team at Nye there is no hope for this school as long as Dr. Thompson is the captain of that ship it destined to sink!

Ahh yes. The glory years for some and the awkward years for others (me). I can't say I enjoyed my…read moretime here during the 3 years I was here. Back in the early 90s BJH had a 9th grade level. I can't be sure but I heard they no longer do the 9th grade level and focus on 7th and 8th grades now. They also do uniforms now? I recall my years here having some eclectic teachers like Mrs. Madden my Social Studies teacher who called her students "little buddies" and Mr. Pruitt, the shop teacher who cut his own finger off. I found the irony in his teaching about telling his students to always pay attention to the buzz saw machine because if you take your eyes off it while cutting something your fingers will go with it. I also had some really cool teachers like Mrs. Lecren (who taught my 9th grade English year) who taught me how to be a good writer in school and Mrs. Brown who was also a great English teacher (my 8th grade year). A lot of kids here back in the day fell into the category of wanna be's...gang bangers, cool kids, your goth kids, etc. I fell more into the background kid category where nobody seriously knew who I was but there I was everywhere in the background. Kids back in the day could be brutal as well. Before social media kids here would throw their food at other kids and literally spit on their backs. Needless to say if they felt this behavior was okay I can only imagine the sad state of their homes they went to at the end of the school day and what kind of parents they had (or didn't have). Kids today need to realize these school years are temporary and everyone will be awkward at some point in their school years. It will not define how you will become and succeed as a person! In some odd way these days did shape my views on the world to some extent and made me more confident in myself to basically forget what others think and focus on you!

The office assured me that there was no short day and that the kids would be let out at the normal time of 2:55, my son just now called me that he's standing waiting outside the school at 1:50. The entire staff is lost and clearly you can't call the office for accurate information.

As someone who attended here, basically a lifetime ago, I have to say that this is not a place you…read morewould want to send your kids to (assuming the principal I know still works here). I probably should've wrote this review a long time ago but this school's principal plays favorites and does not care for every child the same. Admittedly, I know I was a problem child during my time in this school and I have caused issues here and there, but the principal here just doesn't treat every child the same and basically gave me little to no respect as a kid. I really did want to try and be better, but her attitude and "under her breath" responses did not help me, whatsoever. She would give me side eyes and attitude with tone and she clearly had it for me and some of my classmates at the time I was here. For a school principal, she really lacks respect for the kids who attend this school, especially since their parents pay her salary. Students, on the other hand, it is a very mixed bag. For me, I just do not think the classroom environment a lot of the time felt welcoming at all. A good portion of my time here, I did not feel welcome nor did I ever feel like I belonged, no matter how hard I tried, especially if your child is a very hyper individual. The school, itself, is just fine and during my time here, the only real positive I have for the school are the teachers. The teachers were basically the main highlight and made me want to continue my education and a lot of their words and lessons still impact me to this day. I do think the staff of the school care deeply for the students, except for the principal. Parents, you are better off sending your child elsewhere if you don't want your child feeling like they don't belong somewhere. Honestly, I just wish my time and memories of this school was just a lot more pleasant.

A former student who attended this school three years ago for 5 years, and whose siblings are…read morecurrently enrolled, it's a breeding ground for bullying. The toxic environment allows such behavior to thrive, creating a culture where harassment is not just tolerated but normalized. I experienced bullying firsthand on two occasions, and rumors about me during my time there. One specific incident stands out vividly. A girl was spreading false rumors that I had lice, which was entirely untrue. I did not know that that was the rumor being spread, but these girls were also bullying me at the time for other things. After school, I was silently crying in a far away corrner, and my counselor noticed and called both of us in. A girl from another class confirmed that these girls were spreading mean rumors about me. My counselor told us to apologize to each other. I sat there in disbelief, apologizing for being upset and targeted, while I had done nothing to provoke the other girl. I was a shy new kid who barely talked to anyone. The counselor suggested we shake hands and declared that we were now best friends from that moment on. There were no consequences for the bullying, and as soon as I left her office, the harassment started worse than before. Those kids, now knowing that they would not be punished for their actions, bullied me every day. I still remember it clearly, years later. Siblings who attend currently face similar problems. The lack of supervision from staff gives students a free pass to act out without fear of repercussions. Teachers are often valued for their strictness on uniform codes rather than academics. While some were good, there is way more bad than good in this school I compare it to my experiences in three different elementary schools I attended since we moved a lot. Where it was normal for people to treat you with kindness and respect. It needs to change when you look at the ratings its important to look at the date !
