Trying to see and hear what is going on in the class.
    Iowa W.

The RSVP for their free classes don't mean anything. They just use it to estimate if people are coming. Do they use the information to help them control the space set up and attendees? No. Apparently they are fine with people just showing up without an RSVP. So just show up to attend class. They don't allow you to park in the parking lot if you are attending the class. There isn't much parking around the area. I couldn't even see or hear the instructor from outside the room as it was so crowded. I did let them know I was not happy with how they arranged their free class. It's like they had an amateur set this free class up. It would be nice if they had someone with experience setting up the class. If you are holding a free class to attract future customers, I would recommend taking care of everyone with respect and care or limit the space to those that rsvp and then open it up to people who didn't but limit the amount of people due to capacity. Think things through to make the event successful instead of a big mess - which is what happened. They could have set up monitors and speakers outside the room for people to see what was going inside. They have the equipment right there to set it up. Why keep letting people up to the class when there is no more room? When I was directed to Ray, he was apologetic and very customer friendly. I knew he couldn't do much at the time so I told him I would just leave, but I wanted to let him know how upset I was not to be able to attend the class. Then he led me to two other ladies who set up the class. One of the owner's widow. She started out nice, but she couldn't take the feedback and converse with me when I was direct about the failures of the event because it pointed out what a bad job the other woman did. I think it might have been her daughter or friend since she was so miffed about me pointing out how badly it was planned. When I asked about the second and third sessions for the day they were defensive immediately when I was merely asking questions to decide if I wanted to wait there 1.5 hours to get into the next class or just go home. They said they would do better next time, but they could have done better at the 2nd session by doing what I suggested above, letting the people who rsvp in first and then allowing standby folks in next. They really need someone with experience setting up their classes / events. Thank you to Ray who communicated with me. Sad about the other two women who couldn't communicate and was just defensive. I told other people about the class and the issues and they said that was too bad. They remember Samy's from back in the day being so great and the place to go.

Writing this because ***SMILE! YOU GOT IT AT SAMY'S*** feels like a slap on the face. Keep buying online, these kids don't know anything about costumer service. The valet parking people were so friendly and attentive, I got in, looked around and found some stuff but as soon as I got to the film and paper stand the guy that was there was such an unhappy person, he was irritated that I wanted some film and when I asked for some paper he even grunted. What was I supposed to do? Call the manager and make everything more awkward? Hopefully he can find a job that he loves.

All I can say is that Keegan provided one of the best experiences I've ever had at a camera store. He is legit the nicest employee I've ever met. I came in looking for cinema gear and he was extremely knowledgeable. If you're thinking about going into another camera store, don't do it come to Keegan.

If you're into photography--even just a little--GO to Samy's. I just moved to Park La Brea, and having Samy's Camera within walking distance feels like discovering a secret weapon. I brought in a few rolls of film to be developed and met Richard--super friendly, super knowledgeable, and just an all-around great guy who's been managing the department for over a decade. He helped me set up my account, explained how everything works, took my film, and even gave me a 10% discount, just out of pure kindness. Got my scans back in less than 24 hours. Easy. Smooth. Awesome. But beyond the service, this place matters. It's one of the last real camera stores left in California. Everything's here--gear, film, accessories--and if you're seeing it on Amazon, I'd say skip it and come here instead. Let's keep this place alive. Samy's isn't just a store--it's a part of the photo community. Highly recommend.

Good selection and they had what I needed in their 5 levels. Plenty of parking in the lot, with attendant for movement of cars if needed.

I've sent countless other photographers and producers here. I and am so disappointed to say that their production quality and customer service has become so poor, I've finally thrown in the towel and will never return. Some of the issues I've encountered in the last two years: Numerous rolls damaged in their processor or scanning workflow, prints lost in the shuffle or never delivered on time, and zero communication from their "customer service representatives". The recent fast employee turnover rate comes to no surprise as no one seems to know what they're doing anymore. The majority of staff are all suddenly under 25 years old and there's a "new technician" or counter clerk every week I go in. Just yesterday a man named "Aaron" called me (claiming to be one of the owners, when I personally know the owner Ramesh and Rathin) and tried to solve a problem we were having with some prints. He was completely incompetent and lied about his position at The Icon. With love and respect, I hope they get it back together one day but if you have any care whatsoever about your film, prints or customer service, save yourself the time and money and go literally anywhere else.
