My friends and I used to come to Samuel's once a month as a double date night for almost a year and a half straight. We went on our own a few times throughout that year and a half and still had the same fantastic food and drinks! For the first year, all of our visits definitely deserve more than 5 stars. The food 10/10, the drinks 11/10, the staff 15/10. They were always kind and friendly and ensured we had what we needed, hardly ever a wait! It wasn't until the summer of last year that we started to have an issue with a specific waitress... I don't recall her name, but I wouldn't post it here even if I did. She seemed to be in a sour mood from before we even walked in. My friends and I are in our mid to late 20s and some of us, myself included, still have baby faces and are used to being carded no matter the circumstance. She made a huge deal out of checking our IDs before we could even ask for a table and continued to side-eye us throughout the evening. She was fairly rude to us when we asked for a table of four and told us we would have to wait for a table to be ready when multiple open tables were ready to go with silverware and cups. Luckily another waitress said there was a table ready and promptly seated us, weird.
We had the misfortune of continuing to have the same sour waitress for the evening and she seemed to be bothered that we would even think to ask for a refill. As our dinner was wrapping up, she cleared our plates and asked if we wanted the check. When we told her we wanted another drink, she rolled her eyes and walked away. We had to ask another waitress to take our drink order as ours disappeared for a while after. Not even 5 minutes after receiving our final drinks for the evening our sour waitress came back and had the audacity to ask us to leave as "there are other people wanting to be seated." At this point we had been seated at our table for barely an hour and spent over $200 per couple on drinks and food. You think the least she could do was let us finish our drinks and pay first? When I asked for the check she said "gladly" with a smile. The first smile we had seen on her face the whole evening. I debated writing a review then, but thought, maybe she was just having a bad day and we were the unfortunate customers who received the brunt of her mood.
Fast forward to a few months later and the restaurant was busy on this evening. The indoor dining was full so we asked to be seated on the patio even though it had been a hot day. When we saw we were getting the same waitress from our last bad experience, we were all hesitant and thought about leaving to save ourselves the stress. But we love Samuel's and decided to give her another try... boy was that a bad idea. After making yet another big deal and quite the scene over checking our IDs, she promptly disappeared for over 30 minutes. When a different waitress came out to clear a table whose customers just left, we asked her if we could order drinks from her and if we could have water for the table, as we had yet to receive any. She profusely apologized and came back with the water and our waitress to take our order. She hurriedly took our drink and food orders then disappeared back into the restaurant for another 30 minutes before a different waitress brought out our drinks.
When our food did arrive, we asked our waitress for silverware, as we didn't have any. Walking off without a word she came back with unwrapped silverware and napkins and chucked them onto the center of our table and stormed back inside. Obviously, we were in shock that a simple request for silverware would garner this kind of response but at this point, we realized that this is just how she rolls. We quietly finished our food and drinks in record time then waited for our waitress to come back so we could just pay and leave. Again, we debated saying anything but as none of us are confrontational people, we just wanted to get out. When our waitress did come back out, another older couple had been seated outside and she seemed to know them. She squatted down behind my chair to talk with them for about 15-20 minutes. This was in massive contrast with how she interacted with us, as she was nothing but cheery and full of smiles with them. When she stood up to go back inside, I asked her for the check, and she immediately switched back to her "can't be bothered, pissed off demeanor" and yet again, stormed back inside. As soon as we could, we paid and got out of there.
Since then, I have only gone back once with my mother and yet again had the same waitress. She treated my mom with the respect you would expect from a waitress and still treated me with the same disdain as my previous interactions with her. I have yet to go back. I am leaving this review now since I was invited to Samuel's tonight for dinner, but I can't justify going anymore if this waitress is still working. I would LOVE to go back! If the owner wants to contact me, I'd be happy to point her out. read more
