What an awesome addition to Evansville! We were back in town from Virginia, and I had seen posts about Samuel's opening. It reminded me of a few places we used to frequent in Chicago so we had to check it out. We sat outside, as the inside seemed a little bit loud at 7:30pm on a Friday night. The patio was perfect, and still had a few available tables. It seems that they're still working out some kinks with service between getting up and running and staying fully staffed, and our items came out one at a time... which is ok for appetizers and the evening we had going but I imagine would be frustrating for those trying to enjoy a typical dinner together. Our server, however, was phenomenal and kept us in the loop about the issues they were experiencing and things taking a little longer. An issue actually happened with the ticket getting closed out before my burger was made, but when she realized the problem they got it made quickly and comped it as well. The food itself is WONDERFUL and worth any issues we experienced. We did the Truffle Fries, Brussels, Spicy Chicken sandwich, Fried Chicken Wedge salad, and the Classic Smashburger. Everything was really great quality, with local sourcing. The brussels and burger were definitely favorites, and I would truthfully put the burger in the Top 5 of all burgers I've tried ANYWHERE. It was 100% worth the wait. The meat had that perfect smashburger crisp, the cheese was gooey, the pickles were thick and amazing, the bun a little crisp around the edges. Honestly a perfect combination. The rosemary ranch on the chicken sandwich and salad was also worth mentioning! We also tried a few cocktails which were great. A local friend who has won awards for his own bartending said he thinks some of their drinks are even better than his, which is the highest of compliments. This isn't a "cheap" spot, compared to what you might be familiar with in the area, but the quality of the locally sourced ingredients and the overall composition of the dishes absolutely warrant their price point. (Like I said before, this is something I'd expect to see in Chicago, though likely still a little cheaper than what you'd find there.) Walked in on a Saturday and sat at the bar. Bartender was very polite and friendly throughout the experience. I ordered the patty melt and hand cut fries. The patty melt had excellent flavor, as you could really taste the beefy flavor from the patties. If they make their smash burger the same way, I bet it's a real treat. Only things I might change to improve the patty melt are thicker bread, more onions, and creamier sauce with a hint of spiciness to let you know it's there to hold you and treat you with warm, tender love. But it's good regardless, especially if you love the beefy flavor. The fries were properly seasoned and were served with a side of ranch dressing. This is unusual since many restaurants serve their fries with ketchup, but Samuel's is here to tell you you're not a child anymore and it's time to enjoy grown-up food. The atmosphere was really nice and homey as well. But if smoke from the kitchen bothers you, you might want to avoid this place. The bathroom is really nicely decorated and feels like a bathroom from a mid-century Victorian home or something. I would come here again if I lived in the area, but unfortunately my home is an 11 hour drive away. Definitely give this place a try. I was working nearby and decided to give this place a go for some to go food for later in my shift. There is a good amount of street parking available. It appears that they have outside dining when the weather is nicer, however when I was here it was super cold. The outside is a stunning red color which really makes it stand out against the rest of the buildings in the area. I was greeted warmly when I entered and from the time I stepped in until I walked out I was treated very well. There are a few tables inside as well as some bar seating. You can see the kitchen from all of the tables. It is an intimate setting and I could see how if there were a lot of people seated it could get a tad loud. The have several signature cocktails as well as beers and wines on the drink menu and there are a handful of food items. When a place has only a handful of food items in their menu I typically expect those items to be prepared extremely well. They use local ingredients which I truly appreciate. I placed my order and was given a glass of water while I waited. It literally took less than 7 minutes to get my food which was pretty impressive. The food smelled wonderful and it was really difficult for me to save it until later in my work shift! I ended up getting the brussel sprouts and the spicy chicken sandwich. The brussels were amazing and had a perfect amount of seasoning on them. The chicken sandwich was pretty good as well although I have had better. The spicy seasoning on the chicken was good, I'm sure it would have been even better had I been able to eat it right away. I cannot wait to come back here when I'm not working and try something different and get a couple cocktails! As far as the food, the burger was pretty good. It came with no sides, which makes me feel as if it was over priced. They also were seasoned perfectly and not too salty. They were extra crispy which is how we normally order our fries but we didn't even mention extra crispy, so this was a nice treat -in many restaurants they don't come out crispy. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious too! Our server was very friendly and checked in with us at least three times.
