I like to aggressively research all of my options and read yelp reviews before going anywhere so I can always be prepared, which I had done before my recent trip to Miami with my friends. I figured we would grab dinner at the airport to make certain we wouldn't be rushed for our flight and had checked out all the places to eat and settled on the best one... And then they moved our flight to another terminal at the last minute. I hate going in blind... This seemed like a better option to me since it had Ropa vieja instead of things like club sandwiches - which I figured would be prepackaged and cold. Plus, my birthday girl friend wanted a cocktail, so I could kill two birds with one stone. I ordered my Ropa vieja and her a strawberry mojito.
The gentleman immediately made the mojito and handed it to me, with the receipt to sign. Like some people have stated, there is an automatic 18% service charge added. He didn't really specify anything about the food, so I took the drink to my friend at the table then came back to stand off to the side and wait for my food. It was the right call, because it did come up about 4 minutes later, in a to-go container kind of like chipotle, with a fork, knife, napkins, and packet of cholula. I did like that it was thoughtfully packaged. I could have just grabbed that and gone to my plane if I needed to, whereas the pizza place it is connected to had a station where you grab your own Parmesan, napkins, etc.
The food itself was fantastic. Definitely chipotle vibes, but better. The meat was fantastic, the beans were good, the sauce they put on it was sooooooo good, and the veggies were really fresh and crisp - which surprised me. My friends ended up ordering sandwiches from the bagel place next door and it was exactly the sad, prepackaged thing I suspected it would be, so I definitely made the better choice. The drink was super weak though, my friend said it tasted like strawberry jelly, so she ended up throwing most of it out, which was disappointing. Especially after having had awesome drinks all day at the resort we were at. And ironically, the drink was slightly more expensive than the food (probably why the price was not listed on the menu for it.) Skip the mixed drinks here, but order the Ropa vieja. read more
