I gave my wife a $20 bill and she went in bought herself 1 coffee as planned and bought myself some cookies. When she came out she handed me the items to carry and the change which I put in my pocket without looking. When we got home I emptied my pockets and found only $8 in change from the $20 she went in with. I asked if she had purchased something else and she confirmed that she did NOT. So naturally I called the location (I have had issues at this location before) and asked the clerk if she remembered my wife, and if anyone had noticed money left behind or perhaps that she miscounted the change. The clerk quickly denied giving incorrect change so I simply requested that she take my number (she took the number) that way if her til is over she would know who she short changed, then I asked for a manager's information and she hung up on me. About 3 minutes later the clerk calls me back and tells me that my wife had bought cigarettes and that is why the change was incorrect. My wife nor I have ever smoked a day in our life, my mother passed away from cancer as she was a smoker so as you can imagine I am quite the anti smoker advocate. The way this clerk handled the situation was by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced by any company. I will never visit this store again and I will be sure everyone in my social circle, family, and friends will know about this store and how they handle this incident. Called the store 1/12/17 and told the manager (Howard) everything. He justified the clerk's actions, and lightly tried to insinuate that my wife did buy the cigarettes since "the clerk would have had to ring them up", he tried to say "well i was not there so how am I supposed to know" and that is where I had to interject and remind him they have a security camera that he has access to being the manager.. then I had to let him know that he could also count the cigarettes since he knew what she rang up and if there is an extra box... ding ding ding...and after this he ended up telling me that he was on the way out the door and will give me a call tomorrow about it, and if I am right he will refund my money. Now obviously I want the correct change but the real issue is that he has a clerk that is by definition stealing..if it was a mistake the way she chopped at me, hung up on me, accused me is not the right way.. but this store is hiring so I assume that is why he feels forced to keep these imbeciles on his payroll. And at the end of this all I can do is be reminded why I prefer QuikTrip over Circle K anytime, sadly I was on foot and QT was a little further up the road... next time I will surely go the extra distance so i do not have to endure such an experience.
