Finally had an opportunity to try Sams pizza. What a great place and the owner/workers were so friendly. We ordered a medium sausage pizza and 2 cans of pop. It was absolutely delicious. We thought the pizza had the perfect amount of cheese, sauce and sausage. Yes, like others have stated, the sauce is a bit sweeter than most, but it was not overly sweet. We really enjoyed it cold the next day which is a plus. We will be telling our friends and going back there soon. read more

I feel badly giving this place a bad review because so many people rave about it (what are they thinking?) but the stars are strictly for the great service. Lady on phone was super nice as was the delivery guy. The pie was piping hot when it arrived. I've never experienced that before, ever! Now the pizza itself. The crust was fine but there was way too much cheese. I know some people like that but to me it's just gross. The sauce is mediocre at best. Thin, watery, tasteless and too salty...also sort of sweet? Not zesty at all which I think is vital. The absolute worst part was the veg on top (see photo). The green peppers were pre-cooked, I think? They weren't fresh. They were sort of soft, pale and slimy/watery. Bleck. They also use those cooked mushrooms out of the can. Eww. I think the onions also may have been pre-boiled or something? Idk! It was the strangest pizza I've ever had. If you're putting that crap on pizza, I'm sorry but you don't know how to make a good pie. I'm pretty sure the Italians don't do their pizza this way, and people are saying the owner is a first generation Italian. Sorry, but this place is a definite no for me! read more

Took a chance and even told them that it was my first time ordering from them. It was on time, but burnt. I won't eat it. They never gave me a total. When the very nice gentleman came to the door I asked him and he told me what they wrote on the box,( exactly $25) No receipt . To We just moved to Belvidere less than a week ago from Schaumburg. We took a chance on Sam's, thinking we'll need to try several pizza places to get a good one. No need! The two of us got a medium thin crust cheese & sausage and couldn't finish it! The crust was a touch thicker than I normally think of for "thin crust", but it was good. This is THE BEST pizza you will ever eat in your life. The sauce is like no other. It makes the whole pizza. Reviewer "Lauren G" hasn't a clue on good pizza. Too much cheese & sauce? What are you a topping nazi? Who complains about too much cheese? I order mine with extra sauce cuz I just can't get enough of it. The only downside to this place is they randomly close for months at a time in which you have to endure a Sams withdrawal! The lady who answers the phone is such a sweetie. You can't ask for much more. People want this pizza mailed to them in other states. What's that tell ya.. Also reviewer "Penny L" needs to check her geography. Take out and delivery only. One of the best pizza joints around that you don't find anymore. Started by the owners Italian parents more then 30 yrs ago. I have known the daughter for at least 30 yrs and I have never seen her outside the shop. Her parents are gone now and the owner does everything from making the doe to boxing the pizzas and sending them out. She does it all. No employees accept a delivery driver and a couple of people so she isn't in the shop alone. The owner even lives above the shop! Unfortunately closed much the year now. The owner also owns a farm in Italy run by relatives and she seems to be spending more time there now that her parents are gone and she just closes the shop. But if you catch Sam's open you won't be disappointed. read more

This is quite possibly the worst pizza in the Rockford area. Way too much cheese, way too much sauce. They don't take credit/debit cards and all they have is pizza and breadsticks. Delicious pizza! We go out of our way for this pizza. whenever we go by Belvidere on our way to Chicago or beyond. The cheese is abundant and delicious, the kind that stretches from the slice to your mouth in long, delectable strings. I have never thought that the sauce was too spicy, just fresh and tomatoey and good. The crust is crisp and baked to perfection, like a delicious, savory, crisp cookie dough, but not sweet. I usually love all their food but today I ordered their calamari. I had to throw it out is was so disgusting. The "calamari" was the texture of an old rubber band and their breading is the same quality as 711 frozen mozzarella sticks. I took the breading off and it tasted like rancid canned tuna and freezer burn. I called to complain and they told me they buy their calamari pre-made and frozen. They just fry it up. The owner just whisked me away without any type of apology at all. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more
