I usually went to the Sam's out by Capital High on Greenbrier St, but they closed down. Last week, I was craving hotdogs, so I went to the next closest location, which was in Malden. Those ladies know how to make a mean hotdog! The frank was perfectly cooked, the bun was steam heated and soft, the chili was plentiful, and the slaw was cold & tasty. The perfect hotdog in my book. I have been eating Sam's Hot Dogs since I was in college. And whenever I come through West Virginia I always try to stop and get my fix! Sam's is a staple in this area. I love the spicy chili sauce! I don't know of any other hot dog stand that offers this and I hope they never stop. My dog comes with spicy chili, onions and mustard. And you can't forget the local Snyders barbecue chips and a Pepsi! This was a small stand off the interstate. But it does offer a some seating inside. The service was friendly and fast. This place filled up quickly after I placed my order. I had enough time to walk my dog Simba, who was traveling with me, and when I went back in she had my food ready. If you love hot dogs but don't like spicy that's okay because they also have a regular chili sauce too. Stop by and check them out! read more

We drive through West Virginia in the family truckster during our summer vacation. Last year, we sampled the glory of a West Virginia-style dog at Hawt's in Morgantown (they secured a 5-star review). This past summer, we stopped on the east side of the state and took a break from the road at Sam's. Sam's didn't measure up to the high standards of Hawt's, but it's hard to gripe about dirt cheap hot dogs with chili sauce and cole slaw on them. The dogs were tasty, though not outstanding. The prices were insanely cheap--like the change you might find in the console of your car could feed a family cheap. The ambience? It was a little hot dog joint that was clean enough but not ***too*** clean, which is sort of a good thing when you're talking about cheap tubes of questionably-sourced meat. The folks were nice. Got 2 hot dogs from the Sam's location in Cross Lanes a few days ago. Normally love Sam's, but this time they were pretty much inedible. They were out of the English buns, , what little sauce was on them tasted old & burnt, asked for onions, there were none, & they must have been low on mustard, because I could barely taste any!!! I stopped at this little place based on the Yelp reviews and do have to say it was pretty good. The blacked out door in the back was actually a poker palace, not a porn palace although I the ladies there can sling wieners with the best of them. They work so fast, I didn't even see the wieners disappear into the bag. If this is the type of service you need, want, or desire, Sam's is wiener heaven. maybe was probably an establishment of note back in the day but any more it's just another shiny but incredibly average hot dog joint on a hill. wasn't really paying much attention to what was going on but the shop was in good order: rack of chips (no fries!) and a cooler full of sodas (no machine!) and a little counter space to sit and eat inside. picnic tables down the hill adjacent to the gas station are of as yet undetermined ownership but they're there. condiments were just there: yellow mustard, chopped onion, and an inferior relish on boiled meat and a run of the mill bun. if chili makes this better there ought to be some signage besides 'Hot Dog' indicating the necessary accouterments. parking can be kinda tricky because its perched on a small paved hill and there's cars all around even though the hot dog part of the business is empty... must have something to do with what goes on behind black tinted glass. read more

Stopped at Sam's because it is not a fast food franchise. We got 2 dogs for everyone in our van. I chose mustard, onions and relish on mine. Stopped here on the way to Myrtle Beach based on Yelp reviews and because we like to try local places when we travel. Hot dogs with everything means mustard, chili, and coleslaw. They have hot or mild chili and the hot was not terribly hot. Interesting combo but they were tasty and the grilled buns made them seem special. This is definitely a hole in the wall but it was easy to get to off the interstate. The clerks were very friendly. Took off one star because my boys did not like the hamburgers here (I know, don't get a hamburger at a hot dog place). The hamburgers are made on the George Foreman grill and were just okay. Why go there? I'm a hot dog fan. I ordered a dog with chili, slaw, mustard and onion. I was the only one in the place, 5 PM on a Friday. It doesn't take much to please me. The buns were a little stiff and the dog was kind of cold. If you are in the restaraunt business and have one or two items that you focus on, perhaps they should be prepaired thoughtfully and and fresh. I lived in Montgomery and understand the chili slaw dog concept. This clearly missed the mark. read more
