I've been frequenting this Sam's Club for oh...twenty years or so. This location at Pearl City was probably the first Sam's on the island and I remember this location being older than Costco Waipio. I've seen them grow over the years and some of the growth was pretty and some pretty ugly. Here's how I break it down: COSTCO WAIPIO vs SAM'S PEARL CITY (for you Central Oahu and West Side folks) PARKING - Sam's wins. If it is storming outside, you can still shop at Sam's due to the covered garage...nice! Plus there's probably more spaces at Sam's due having to three different parking levels. Sometimes I cannot find parking at Costco. RETURNS - Costco wins hands down, slams Sam's down into the dirt. Not only does Costco have a stellar returns process, they are nice about it. Not so much Sam's. I've been hassled returning stuff before and the Returns and Membership desk folk do not seem as efficient as Costco. CUSTOMER SERVICE - Costco wins. Sam's Club employees are marginal at best and/or outright rude. I was instructed with a simple gruff "Open" meaning, open my bags so they could check my purchases for Scan and Go. PRICE - Sam's wins miles over Costco. The produce are super cheap. To give you an example: a bag of lemons at Costco almost $9 and Sam's, almost $5, but again it depends what you are looking for. Sam's frequently either makes mistakes, or really marks down their stuff! For example, I purchased Orange Tempura Cauliflower with Sauce in their frozen section...91 cents a box!! I grabbed all four remaining boxes. There was no price listed, probably for a good reason! They are baking up to a crisp in the oven as I type this... Just be aware that Sam's produce/fruits are cheap for a reason: it spoils faster. CONVENIENCE - Sam's wins with their Scan and Go app, no contest! Sometimes I'll avoid Costco because their lines are super ridiculous and just go straight to Sam's Club just for the convenience of scanning everything on the phone and hitting "checkout" and just waltz out of the store. This alone has got me spending more at Sam's than ever before. You can't buy alcohol, tobacco or other locked items with the Scan and Go app and you'll have to end up standing in line for these. PHARMACY - Sam's Club seems to have nicer pharmacists. Costco Waipio pharmacists are grouchy and they have weird lunch hours. OPTICAL - Costco has a nice optical shop. I have not used Sam's optical shop so I can't comment. I'd recommend the Costco Kapolei over the Costco Waipio optical shop any day (better service). FOOD COURT - Costco has better food court items. The pizza isn't as greasy as Sam's and the selections seem to be better and cheaper at Costco. EXOTIC STUFF - Sam's wins over Costco. Remember those Wasabi Doritos? The Sriracha Popcorn? The Orange Champagne Mimosa cake mix? The Almond Roca popcorn? Tajin Mexican seasoning (Sam's got it first before Costco)? The local Christmas pretzel mixes with spices? I think Sam's also caters more to local Hawaiian residents than Costco, mainly their Asian food section and the AMAZING sushi selection (see my pics!) Wowzers, talk about delicious sushi; none of that hard chunky rice rolls that Costco sells! HEALTHY STUFF - Costco seems to win this one. More organic selections and quantities such as eggs, fruits and veggies. FURNITURE - Costco wins, no contest. LAYOUT and DISPLAY - For looks (displays) and wide spaces, Costco wins. For actually LABELING the aisles, Sam's wins. I've read that Costco doesn't label their aisles with products on purpose, so you will actually walk up and down each aisle looking for stuff and SPEND MORE MONEY. Smart Costco, but totally annoying. Another annoying thing I don't like: Sam's Freeosk - in the middle of the dang walkway! People pile up waiting for free samples and block one of the two only main walk ways on the left side of the store. SAMPLES - Costco wins. BEAUTY PRODUCTS - Costco. KITCHEN STUFF FOR CHEFS - Sam's Club. GADGETS - Costco. ELECTRONICS - Costco. PHOTO SHOP - Does Sam's even have a Photo shop? CONTRACTORS/CLEANER SUPPLIES - Sam's. Best garbage bags! Best cleaning stuff! GAS - Sam's and Costco about the same price. Costco has crazy lines. Sam's gas is by Wal-Mart on Kuala Street, so a bit out of the way from Sam's Club, but you don't wait in crazy lines. OK and lastly but not least, the strangest category but one that wins me over every time: FRENCH BREAD - Sam's Club wins!! Best French Bread on the island, in my opinion! It blows Safeway and Costco out of the water and you can't even beat the price $2.78 for two long, giant rolls of chewy, soft French bread that toasts to a crisp outside; these also make the best croutons ever! You're welcome!

The Reasons I'm a Fan of Sam's Club: 1. Family combo for $15 1 large 1 topping pizza 6 cans of coke 1 dozen chocolate chip cookies 1 order of cheesy breadsticks Such a great deal! I usually go here to eat with my family before we go shopping. This helps keep my boys content and not make us buy things because we are hungry. They also have other great food deals at the cafe. The ice float only cost $1.89. I don't know anywhere else on the island that gives a generous amount like Sams. 2. Covered parking There are 2 floors of covered parking. 3. Tire center They will plug ANY fixable flat tire that has a small puncture for FREE. 4. Free Samples They usually offer free samples on the weekends. However, your child must be accompanied by an adult to get a sample. They are pretty strict with enforcing this rule. They will not allow my teenager to get samples. 5. They accept most credit cards for payment. 6. There are several self-checkout lines. 7. Extra perks for Sam's Club Plus Members: - Early shopping hours from 7 am-10 am - Cash Rewards (Get $10 for every $500 spent) 8. Cheaper Gas It's located near Walmart. 9. The Bakery I prefer Sam's Club cakes over Costco. They have a bigger variety to choose from and better decorations. 10. Gift Cards I always scope this area for deals. Sometimes is a few dollars off or $20 or more from the gift card price. But every $1 count towards another treat I could be purchasing :) I have a membership to Sam's club and Costco and both offer different things. If your not a Sam's Club member yet Living Social or Groupon periodically offer a discount to get membership plus a few extra giveaways. Overall, I'm happy with my membership.

This little perp simply beats Costco. Simple like in using their Scan N Go app. This app is a don't wait in line saver. I always used the self service lane but I wanted to see this app in action. I wasn't sure how it really worked so I went to the customer assistance desk and asked questions. The assistant said it's just that scan your product and it will show on your phone. "Well what happens when I don't want the product after I scanned it?" No worries, you can delete it before checking out. "How do I prove I paid for it?" The door checker will scan the bar code on your phone after you paid to verify. So off I went after I registered my credit card on the app. TIP: register a credit card on the app to enjoy the easiest check out ever. It was so simple an unattentive kid would love to use this. Just scan the bar code and it shows up on your phone with a picture of the product and the price. I brought clams so there was no pic just the price. Also for items that have a discount, they show up as full price and after you pay, the receipt on you phone will show the discount. Pay attention and make sure the product scans. A couple of times I lost phone reception so it didn't register. No problem, I just scan again when I got a signal. So moment of truth when I got close to the cash registers, I hit the checked out button. And it worked!!! I got a bar code proceeded to the exit, the checker scanned my phone, counted the items (I got 5 but the receipt says 6 because of the HI bev), and off I went. Overall five stars because it's so damn simple. Excuse my French. Now I have to google how we got that term........well it was simple. Now excuse me, I got clams to cook. M

When I think of Sams Club I think of purchasing food in bulk. Recently I figured out that their pharmacy carries an extensive selection of different medications. I dropped of a prescription that is not covered by my medical coverage and normally pickup at my medical provider and my savings was huge..... Another great thing was my medication was like super sized (Sams Club style...of course). I'm normally provided with a 3ml bottle, but was given the option to purchase a 5ml bottle. The 5 ml bottles prices was way less then the 3ml bottle I normally purchase. That's an awesome deal. The pharmacist I spoke to said he was very sorry, but it would take a day to receive my medication. Which I did not mind because my savings was so huge and I got to enjoy a an icee.... :)

My baby shower cake that was HORRIBLE. The fondant strips are not even and patched onto the cake. The wording isn't even centered.

Just when you think Conroe Sams can not get any worse... the do not disappoint and top the lousy customer service that I've grown to expect.

Scan and go app allows you to skip the long checkout lines and go. Even Costco doesn't have this app.

Ask the Community - Sam's Club

Is Sam's Club open today? 8/25 saturday

Yes from 7am-7pm for plus members and 10am-7pm for regular members

Do they take pictures for passports?

    Yes they do!

How many Sams Club shoppers have had their cars dinged in the parking structure at Sam's Club?

Couple of times for me. Parking is tight so I sometimes park on the second floor. The problem is of course someone can break in to the car easier up there with no one around.

(It was expensive.) Terrible people skills. I have $1,500 worth of scripts a month that I was going to transfer there since they are in my neighborhood. You defiantly get the feeling like they could care less if they have your business or not. I have noticed extreme turnover in the past 2 years as well. Sad...... I have never thought about switching all of my family's prescriptions to another pharmacy but it looks like that is what I am going to do.
