I brought in some drapes to be dry cleaned the week before Thanksgiving, and was told they would be ready in the late afternoon the day before the holiday. I picked up the (sealed) hangers, and when I got them home and opened them, they had the same stains they had before. The only difference, now they stank of chemicals. She customized my gowns and suites in getting ready for special occasions. In short: they ruined a new dress shirt, hid the damage, and compensated me a pathetic $2.35 when I confronted them about it. I took two white dress shirts to Sam's after wearing each just once. When I picked them up, the shirts were pressed and packaged together in plastic, and there were no signs of damage. Yet when I got home, I saw that the inner shirt, which was hidden from view inside the plastic, had a large, black grease stain on the front. There's simply no way that Sam's missed this, and it's hard to believe it's a coincidence that the damaged shirt was placed in just the right way to obscure it from view when I picked it up. I walked back to the store and asked them to make it right. After the woman behind the desk accused me of lying, and suggested that the stain must have been there when I brought the shirt in (hint: it was not), she reluctantly offered $2.35, the price of cleaning. Except now the shirt is ruined, and I'm out more than $100 to replace it. Take your money, and your clothes, somewhere else. read more

Disclaimers: I have only had one experience with this business. Some might consider this a one-star experience, I gave two-stars as nothing was damaged or lost, and it was based a single experience. I had just moved into the neighborhood and was very hopeful about my first experience at Sam's. I dropped off a long jacket with a (faux) fur-trimmed hood for dry cleaning. I returned, five days later, when they said it would be ready, just in time to travel to LA with my jacket. When I returned, the jacket had not been cleaned. The woman at the counter told me that the fur trim hood was impossible to dry clean. I asked her why she had not called and informed me of that, rather than having me wait and return five days later expecting at clean jacket. Surprisingly, and unfortunately for me, she grunted at me and walked away. I went to LA, took the jacket to my old dry cleaners where they cleaned the jacket beautifully and charged me $20 less than Sam's told me they would charge. These people were very nice and served with a smile. I got 2 jackets cleaned and it came out to be $21 which was very reasonable. My purple jacket appears to be nice and bright! The lady who works here is SO SWEET. Seriously, nicest lady ever. Had to say that first. I've always been highly satisfied with their dry cleaning. Occasionally they've fixed a button or a rip or something for me, and that's always turned out great as well. Highly recommend this place. My clothes look great, and the price is right. Updated Fall 2012: I had them tailor a suit for me recently, and I was beyond pleased with the results. I was a little nervous, because it was a pretty expensive suit, but they did a wonderful job. There are a ton of dry cleaners to choose from, even just on shattuck in north berkeley alone, but sam's cleaners is great. my boyfriend drives all the way to albany to bring his stuff to an eco-friendly cleaner's - i'm desperately trying to convince him to just go to sam's. The woman who works here is incredibly sweet, as other reviewers have indicated. Not to mention, things are done when they say they will be done, the quality is good, and the prices are decent. I had two coats dry cleaned here. Both were wool blends. For two hefty winter coats, it was pretty cheap (20 dollars), and my clothes came out clean. It was a two day turn around. The owners were very friendly and I will come back. I'm not sure how they are on alterations but I may have a pair of jeans hemmed soon enough. read more

I give this spot a 5-star for their customer service. I had planned to pick up my dry cleaning a week after I sent it in, but I wasn't able to come in because my car had broken down was in the shop. I came a week later, and the lady inquired if something was wrong(kindly without being too nosy). I told her of my situation and she seemed to genuinely want my car to be doing better for my sake. And if that wasn't enough, when I complained about the walk to get there, she had offered to pick up and drop off my laundry after hours. Of course I said no, but the fact that she offered warranted MORE then a five-star review. In terms of price and quality of washer, I was satisfied. It wasn't the greatest but it was def one of the better price/quality I've seen in cleaners. Even though it's out of the way and there's probably 5 cleaners on the way, I plan to use Sam's cleaners. I can only speak for the wash-n-fold. They are a bit pricey at $1.50/lb, when places right down the street are around $1. That's a big difference when laundry is per pound. But our clothes smelled nice and were folded into small compact cubes when we picked them up. read more

The lady who does my jeans here is so incredibly cordial and accommodating, and I've come here many, many times. I like the way my jeans fit so whenever I need a hole sewn up, she does it - great job. The cost isn't too bad either - two big holes in two different jeans for under $20. read more

I have to agree with all the reviews but one posted by Amanda B. about her stains. I've been using their services and value their customer service after more than 10 or so years of service. I make that special trip from Hercules when I've something to alter or dry-clean. It appears the Customer Amanda B. was not aware that must have been some hidden stain when she bought the clothes from old clothing/consignment shop, and some stains are chemical sensitive and the Sam's owners or the customer did not make that marked as "Stain" when brought in. That's customer's problem and the clothes at the consignment store usually make their customer aware they buy any of the second-hand clothes "AS IS." So, I must disagree with Amanda B. and she might be better to inform the store where she bought it instead of blaming on the SAM's Cleaner. I've been taking my comforter in the past, and they repeated cleaned it until I satisfied with the outcome, because I knew the stain would be a permanent stain when I brought it in. my usual dry cleaner in the city was closed for vacation, so i brought in a jacket, a sweater, and three work shirts here to be cleaned instead. i was quoted a price of 28 dollars. 28?!! at my usual place, shirts are 2 bucks and jackets not much more. fine, i said. i have no other choice. i showed up the next day to find that the stains on my jacket-- which i'd taken the time to point out so they could put some red tape on them-- had not been cleaned. i'm not paying for that, i said. no, you pay half price. the fuck? why would i pay half price for something i'm going to have to take to somewhere else to be cleaned again? it's clean, except for the stains. unfortunately, there was no way around this, since i was paying with a credit card. they send their clothes out to be cleaned, which is why they overcharge for their services. really, they're just the middle-men and don't actually do any work on the premises. this means that not only are you overpaying, but you're not getting the same quality service you would if you went straight to the source. next time my dry cleaner goes out of town, i will deal with re-wearing my work shirts. better that than overpaying for services i never received. read more

Sorry to write this on Christmas Eve. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. Very incompetent staff, don't let them clean clothes that are of any value for you. Three days ago I gave them my favorite black jacket with a few tiny stains of red paint on the sleeve and on the inner side. When I picked it up today I figured out that 1) they didn't even try to remove the inner stain, 2) they ruined the sleeve, which now has a huge spot with color faded. When I asked them why they didn't try to remove the inner stain first, I was told that they are in business for 14 years and know how to do their job. The lady that I was talking to never asked for excuse. She just gave the jacket back to me, hoping that I wouldn't notice anything, I guess. Moreover, she claims that she does not remember that we marked the inner spot together 3 days ago. Now I need to talk to her boss when I come back to the States in 3 weeks. read more

I had them dry clean and press a pleated dress- dropped it off on Tuesday, picked it up on Friday, they did an excellent job with the pressing (and it's a difficult dress to press) I couldn't have been happier with the outcome looks wise. If only I could give 0 stars...I come here because I have to. I pick up and drop off my bosses' laundry otherwise I wouldn't bother with them at all. These guys are RACIST and discriminating. I just came from there and the woman flat out told me (black woman) that she prefers to deal with my boss (white male). Long story short this all due to a misunderstanding plus language barrier. Ok so am occasionally asked to drop or pick up dry cleaning and I always make sure I have a ticket with me. 3 times now, my boss picked up without a ticket and didn't tell me so whenever I went to pick up she would tell me he picked up. Am ok with all that so I say ok and I leave. I don't yell, curse or demand anything (no need to anyway. Not anyone's fault). No issues so far except every time am there, I get the feeling am not welcome there. But It's them vs my job so I ignore and move on. If you face people like this often, you learn to ignore although you recognize exactly what is happening. Any way today I go in with two tickets, she looks at the dates (2 weeks old) and doesn't even bother to check computer to see if they are there she just flat out starts yelling at me that she prefers to deal with my boss. All this time am quiet like I normally am coz I just don't like being there, so am shocked when she says that. Like wth? I explain to her it's just my job and am not in a position to confirm everything so it's fine and I will let him know to let me know when he picks up. It really not a big deal. But in my head am thinking is it really that big a deal? Coz am pretty sure my boss has gone for dry cleaning that I've picked up and he doesn't catch any flack. This is so disappointing. I don't even know what to think or do, but I definitely see why we are where we are. This was worth me opening a yelp account and telling my story.
