One of the better diner spots in town. I always love places where you can see them cook your food. The man working the griddle did a stellar job making my omelette. Delicious and satisfying.

Delicious food, nice diner atmosphere, and appropriately priced! The waiter we had was also amazing- super friendly and very attentive. We both got breakfast sandwiches, hashbrowns (some of the best breakfast hashbrowns I've had), and coffee. We didn't leave any scraps left!

First time at Sam's Cafe today and it was one of the best "traditional" breakfasts I have had in a while. Dos: Don't miss out on the French toast. Or be like me and double up with the pancakes. Bring cash - they do not accept credit cards. Dont: Find a seat when you get there, as no will one will seat you. All in all, it was a great experience, especially for a non-boozy brunch. With its location downtown, you're either doing street parking or in one of the lots.

Plain, decent coffee. Mom enjoyed it! Not my type of grub, but we had a nice morning here.

One of the greatest hidden gems at U of I. Love the food and service. Gives you a true feel of Champaign.

It's difficult to describe the magic of Sam's. No, wait, no it's not. It's delicious, basic, cheap food.

The hostess was nice as well. The building is amazing. It gets 5 stars. The wood interior is beautiful, built from White Mountain Ash. I kept seeing great holiday parties in my mind with lit Christmas trees. Beautiful items like an antique clock adorn the walls. The outside patio looks inviting too, although it is not in use right now. The restaurant sits next to the creek with migrating geese stopping by for a drink. The location is enchanting. I started with a cup of tomato basil soup. The basil flavoring was nice and the soup good. The cup serving was a little small. I'd get a bowl next time. Next I ordered the Power Bowl which came with red quinoa and farro, roasted and steamed vegetables like squash, spinach, zucchini, broccoli etc in a pesto sauce. The recipe concept is excellent, however my grains were cold and the veggies bordered on mushy. The pesto sauce was flavorful. Overall, I'd give the food 3 stars. I think they can do better. I'd rate this place 4 stars overall and try again, maybe a meat dish. Love the building!
