As for events, You name the event, I've probably been to it. Auto racing, the circus, I saw the lippizaner stallions here the Sunday flea market. The annual Redwood Acres Fair, (it's a small fair that runs for about a week, but it's always fun.). And one of the funniest shows I ever saw here, was called "extreme midget wrestling." I recently attended one of their summertime monthly events, called "acres of eats." a good sized selection of food trucks/trailers, entertainment, activities for the kids, etc. It was a wide selection of food. I had. A stew and an empanada from a Colombian food trailer. It was absolutely delicious, and the price was very reasonable. If you have a chance to go to this event, or anything else else at Redwood acres, it's worth it. I hope Redwood acres lasts for a long time coming. It's a wonderful asset to Eureka.

Additionally, the event (forgot the name) allowed the students to go on a hay ride and sit inside of a parked helicopter where race cars /monster trucks arena is usually held. Overall, it is a nice place to experience large events to small events like the county covid testing area.

All of the chairs in the dining room sink so low, you can just rest your chin on the table and shovel it in. What I found most problematic with this hotel is the lip service to ADA accommodations. There are no grab bars in the bathroom, not even soap dishes you could cling too if you slipped on the very slippery tub floor. The lighting and the switches to the lighting are incredible dim in the room making impossible to see with black on black backgrounds. For low visibility people, the randomly placed 'mood' lighting keeps people like me in the dark. Finally, for people with physical disabilities, getting one's luggage on a cart, then to an elevator, then into a room with extremely heavy doors that swing back so quickly, an injury is almost guaranteed. Unfortunately, I experienced all of this at Holiday Inn express in Eureka. I mentioned some of my difficulties to the registration desk, staff, and as nice as they were, they didn't care... they say they'll remodel next year, but if they really cared about providing accommodations for Americans with disabilities, they make the changes now.

You have to put your key in this little slot by the inside of the door to keep the lights on. Once you leave and remove it the light go off to help save electricity great idea, At least I couldn't forget where I put my room key haha. The beds seemed to be firm and the pillows were comfortable. My husband and I had a good night sleep. They offer hard and soft pillows and they are labeled as such on the pillowcases. Never seen that at a hotel before. Room came with a microwave & fridge which was nice to keep our snacks and water cool for the next days journey. Breakfast was complimentary, lots to offer. Eggs, turkey & pork sausage pancakes, cinnamon rolls, bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice and more that I don't remember. The offer onsite laundry room, a pool and jacuzzi and a workout gym. We didn't have a chance to use these but they were available. The parking lot has a brick half wall with a metal fence around the building. We felt safe where we parked, we checked often and never saw anyone snooping around. You will need a room key to get into the side entrance of building. When we come back to Eureka we will definitely book Holiday inn Express again. We felt very comfortable here and the hotel was centrally located torestaurants stores and gas stations.

My wife, her mom, and I stopped by their community center and found it to be a quiet place to visit, with plenty of parking and easy access to the Pacific Ocean. Manila, California was founded in the early 1900's, named after the capital of the Philippines. After the defeat of the Spanish fleet at the Battle of Manila (effectively ending the Spanish rule over its colony in 1898), up to 12 towns in the U.S. were named Manila. This community center was initially built in the 50's as an elementary school, and later converted into a center that now houses a Montessori school and Manila Community District. It has a large children's playground with jungle gyms and slides, plenty of car parking, accessible restrooms from the outside, along with an outdoor basketball court with two baskets. It is also close to the Manila Dunes Recreation Area, with sandy trails leading to the shoreline. My wife noticed the street address of the center (1611), which has significance as the founding year of the first university in the Philippines (University of Santo Tomas). It's a special point of pride for my wife's mom, since that is her alma mater.

It was fine for one night but I don't know if I would choose the same type room if staying longer. The hotel has some history behind it and can be a little creepy if you decide to walk around at night by yourself. Our room was #16, located on the second floor. The room was a decent size with a sitting area with two chairs and a settee and a small armoire to hang your clothes. The bathroom was small with a walk in shower but the shower pressure was good and the water was warm. No air conditioning but there was an industrial oscillating fan in the room. Unfortunately, I didn't find the bed too comfortable and the headboard creaked a lot but it was ok for just one night. Taylor at the front desk when we checked in was very helpful and informative. We left early, around 8am and they had a complimentary breakfast available for guests consisting of bagels, sweet pastries, fruit, Tillamook cheese and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers which I presume are for the bagels. Cute spread!

The bed was absolutely comfortable. The aroma of the inn was absolutely overwhelming and not a pleasant odor. Our room was a good size, but the furniture was from when the inn opened in 1888. Not comfortable to sit on and relax on. The curtains were tied back in their periodic decor which made pulling them closed an ordeal ( there were 8 of them). Our door to the hallway had a significant leveling problem and could see into the hallway when the door was closed. Although I can appreciate the charm of the past it felt like everything (carpet, furniture, doors, walls) was "dirty"

When you enter, there is a receptionist that greets you... and you walk into a lobby full of comfy furniture, a roaring fireplace and a basket full of blankets. Above the two receptionist sits a bar where you can grab a glass of wine to sit in front of the fire. They also have a tower of fruit for you to grab as a snack. We stayed in one of the regular rooms which I found quite spacious. However, we were on the corner so we had a little extra space. I'm not sure if all the rooms have a fireplace, but ours did which came in handy because it's quite chilly in Eureka. If you're staying for a few days, they have plenty of space in the room to put your clothes. However, the bathroom is very tight. I will say the bed and pillows are very comfortable...I definitely slept very well! The hotel itself is located pretty centrally and easy enough to walk to good restaurants just down the street but if you don't wanna walk, the hotel itself has an amazing restaurant both for breakfast and dinner. I'm honestly not sure about lunch.

After waiting 35 minutes we finally got the soup, with a bad attitude from the waitress. As all the other tables around us were getting their plates we were left sitting there for way too long, the waitresses kept telling that it was the kitchen fault. If it was any other day we would have gotten up and walked out, but it being Valentine's Day we knew we how hard it would be to try to walk in anywhere else. It was so bad they comped our dinners. She knew we were not happy at all, and sent the manager over to talk to us who apologized for how everything had went, saying that they hoped we would give them another chance.....
