Bayside Grange - Bayside Community Hall

    Bayside Grange

Let me just start off by saying this is a BEAUTIFUL venue. We absolutely loved having our wedding…read morereception here. Everything turned out beautiful, it was a fun space, lots of parking, and super affordable. My wedding was straight out of a fairytale...except the hall manager. Our whole experience trying to rent this venue was a bit difficult. The hall manager we worked with was extremely scattered and stand-offish. Unfortunately, I wish I would have seen these as red flags. After a magical night, we returned the next morning with a crew of 20 to help us clean the facility. We took all of our trash to the dump and left the facility looking better than it did when we arrived. We did leave something there accidentally, called the hall manager and arranged to meet her there to pick it up. When we arrived (exhausted from cleaning all morning and returning rentals all day), the manager proceeded to accuse us of breaking two carts (both of which my caterer notified me were broken before our rental of the space), being "thoughtless and disrespectful" and overall "terrible people". She then proceeded to yell at us for moving the stage lights (something we were unaware were separate rentals and did not come with the facility rental), not sweeping the bathrooms because there was two quarter-sized scraps of clean toilet paper near the ground (which we did sweep every room before leaving!). Oh, and the piano is apparently supposed to stay on top of an ill-fitting scooter (a serious liability) which in the hustle and bustle, our group of guys took it off the scooter, thinking that was the safe and appropriate thing to do. Anyway- long story short, she continued to complain about how she doesn't get paid for this job, how we ruined her day, and how we were going to "pay" for all of this (we did not get our $300 security deposit back, which is fine) The security deposit is supposed to cover things like that, so it really was inappropriate to threaten us and make us feel terrible, when the security deposit is meant for this exact reason. So, I would say just proceed with caution when renting this venue. If you can deal with a demeaning and scattered hall manager, then go for it. It really is a beautiful venue.

This review is long overdue! We have stayed in a couple different Trinidad Retreats vacation…read morerentals over the years and really enjoyed our stay at both of them. They have vacation rentals in Humboldt County in Trinidad, Arcata, and McKinleyville. We have only stayed in ones in Trinidad. Trinidad holds a special place in my heart and I absolutely love this quaint beach town! They have several properties in Trinidad that overlook the ocean and the views are absolutely stunning so you can pick the ones that works the best for you. Some of the properties also have a hot tub if that is something that you are looking for. They have dog friendly vacation rentals as well, which is important to us because we love going on mini vacations with our dog. Trinidad is such a beautiful area for a getaway and to have mindful moments to take in the natural beauty that surrounds you! We absolutely loved watching the sunsets and enjoying wine in the evenings! Trinidad is truly a magical place! The only negatives are that more and more people are discovering Trinidad so the prices in the area of bed and breakfasts and vacation rentals have gone up. Also, I don't love the fees that are associated with vacation rentals and the rules. Overall though, Trinidad is a beautiful place to stay and if you are looking for your own private oasis, Trinidad Retreats has some amazing properties to stay at!

The rates they charge for events are very reasonable. Reaching someone from their office is always fairly easy and they get back to me very quickly, whether I'm using email or phone. I book the Wharfinger for a winter dance at the end of each January. Staff provides me with a layout of their venue along with a list of the furniture items they have available for my use. I then create a layout design using their template explaining what tables and chairs I would like to utilize and where I would like them placed. I usually take a group of students with me to decorate the venue about 5 hours or so before our event is set to begin. Staff always has my requested layout design ready to go, allowing me to just show up and decorate. I opt to pay a bit extra for use of the kitchen facility. I put all drinks and perishable items in their industrial refrigerators, giving them plenty of time to cool before the event, alleviating the need for me to deal with ice. One less thing to do while chaperoning! There are small hooks around the ceiling trim of the building, which makes it very easy to string up lights. We are allowed to tape items to the walls as long as we use painter's tape, and we are also able to string up lights around the patio rails of their back deck. This allows us to create an ambient atmosphere behind the venue overlooking the water. Students often enjoy taking breaks from dancing and hanging out on this patio area to cool off. Staff on hand during events are always incredibly helpful, and assist me in anything I need. Explanations are very thorough when I'm signing off on forms at the end of the event, and they make it very clear what is expected of me during cleanup in order to get our security deposit back after the event. Staff has also been happy to let me borrow a ladder or an extension cord if I needed one, and it's wonderful to have employees on hand in case I have any questions or needs that arise. This is a hassle free venue that I will continue to use year after year.

It is dark inside and smells "old". Our room was nicely decorated in old Victorian. It was overlooking the corner of 2nd & C right over the Irish pub. Everything was clean and nice inside. Bathroom was small but well stocked with supplies. The issue is more with the area. We took a walk after we arrived through the marina and old town area and concluded that we didn't feel terribly safe. We decided to stay in after dark. There were plenty of homeless and very "sketchy" people walking around talking loudly to themselves, etc. Know the rooms have no air conditioning so the hosts opened a couple of windows facing C street, which we left open all night, hoping that street wouldn't be terribly noisy. Fortunately, the Irish pub below us closes around 9:00, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was the same. By 9:30 or so the street was very quiet with only the occasional car and lone, loud motorcycle around midnight. Also there is no TV in the room, so bring your own entertainment! The WiFi didn't work either. We couldn't find the WiFi the hosts provided on check in. Overall, this area of town is trying to revive and the hosts are trying to bring back this hotel. Just be aware!
