sammysoap is a great establishment, as pure as it gets. They have a great mission statement, they create jobs for people with disabilities and care about our environment as well. This store has been in Kirkwood for about a decade and every time I come in, it's a good experience. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they have a great selection of soaps and other items such as decorations and knick knacks. You can even watch them make the soaps in the evenings, most days. Yes, the soaps are expensive, but they're free of artificial ingredients and give back to the community. This is an incredible store. Not only do they make and sell some of the best locally made soaps, but they have an incredible mission statement. The employees who make their soaps, are adults who have IDD's. I love how they give back to the community by creating jobs. My recent visit, I didn't buy any soaps, I already have a good supply. However, I did buy a lot of their other gift items. I took advantage of some of the holiday discounts, got a pair of car coasters and new cocktail napkins. In my world, you can never have enough cocktail napkins. I take my own to bars and restaurants when meeting family and friends. I not only recommend Sammysoap for soaps, but it's also a fantastic place to find unique and affordable gifts. They have a lot of dog themed gifts, that I personally would like to receive. So if they have something for me, you'll find something for your friend or family, too. The staff/cashier are friendly and professional. As I browsed the store, they politely informed me of items on sale/promotion. They had some good sales going on. I may be going back for some lamps they had 30% off. read more

It's hard to leave the store without finding multiple cool items: books, jewelry, entertaining magnets for your fridge, candles, hand crafted soaps, art, just about everything under the sun. This store just happened to be a few doors down from another store I was shopping at, and since I don't lice in the area and had come for one specific thing, I thought what the heck and I thought what the heck and Im so glad I did. There are so many thing a at this store that you dont expect. I thought just soap, but wow!! They have these beautiful mugs that have different breedsbof dogs and cats as the handles and I fell in love lol. This was only the start of the uniqueness. There are books, journals. Dish towels, candy, little odds and ends that are way too many to list. The Soaps are amazing. The variety and the knowledge of the staff of what is good for what condition impressed me. They have vegetable soap, animal soap and more. They have little pads to set tour soap on on in the shower to help preserve the bars. Chapsticks that are made with natural ingredients but are not conglomerated like Bjers Bees...and it is my favorite Chapstick. Overall I think you could spend a few hours in here and still miss something. It is truly amazing! read more

Let me start by saying the mission of sammysoap is absolutely incredible. I applaud this organization for what they are doing for the St. Louis community. If you're not familiar, this is from their website, "sammysoap is a job creation machine for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) disguised as the world's best soap company. We manage to the strengths of our employees to make the best soap around and exist in support of human health, a clean planet, and wage equality." A.M.A.ZING! So as if their mission and community outreach isn't amazing enough, their products are next level. Being somewhat of a city dweller, I never actually realized there was a sammysoap store. Today, I had the pleasure of visiting their Kirkwood store and was blown away! First off, the SMELL! When you walk in you are hit by the amazing aroma of all their soaps. I cannot even begin to describe how incredible the store smells. So fresh. Clean. Bright. There's just an underlying sense of joy in the store. While sammysoap is focused on all natural skincare and soap, their store has so much to offer! I loved getting lost for over an hour checking out all their products. They had so many unique gifts for the holidays including Cardinals legends playing cards. They even have a huge section dedicated to pets! I almost purchased a pirate themed collar for my dog, but resisted the impulse. I ended up buying two bars of soap, candy cane and vanilla almond. The wrappers of both are gorgeously designed and I felt so guilty taking them out of the packaging. So I didn't'! The candy cane soap is on display in our guest bathroom to spread holiday cheer. I did use the vanilla almond soap that came in a wrapper that said "joyeux Noel!" The soap was so fragrant and my hand are still so soft. Such a great product. I will definitely be purchasing more soap from this amazing boutique. read more

Be prepared to just hand over your wallet when you come in, because you'll want to buy everything you see. ;] As you open the door, you're embraced by the different aromas of rosemary, mint, eucalyptus, ginger, lavender, and more... Your nose starts to lead you into the store, directing you to the wide array of handmade soaps. I couldn't stop myself from picking up each one and frantically loading my basket, hoarding all I could. Let's just say that in my household, we'll be good on soap for AWHILE. Not only does Sammysoap carry products for humans, they carry soap for our furry four-legged loves, too! I can't tell you how excited I was to learn this! My little Maltipoo has sensitive skin that is left flaky and itchy after using other commercial brands. But after using Sammysoap's soap for pets, my little furbaby itches no more and smells of lovely rosemary. (I think she enjoys it too... After a bath she'll zoom around the house in joy!) This was a chance meeting, so unexpected. Very nice and quaint small shop. Some wonderful gift ideas in this store! From wine stoppers to coasters, custom made pillows to kitchen towels, specialty greeting cards to animal items and of course the Soap! I was overwhelmed at the amount of items I wanted to purchase on this first visit, but I settled on a bar of soap, soap dish and 2 kitchen dish towels. There are definitely some more items I'd like to purchase and I will be back. Your pet is welcome to browse the store with you as you shop. I absolutely love shopping in stores like this. My husband, two-year-old, and I were not planning on stopping in Sammy Soap, but after leaving the Bug Store a few doors down, I couldn't help but notice the amazing aroma! Despite my husband's protests, I HAD to check it out. Both of us couldn't be happier that we did! Not only were we greeted warmly and given detailed answers to all of our questions, our son got the opportunity to cut some soap in the back with a cookie cutter. All of the staff members were extremely kind and patient. But the soap!!! My husband is African American and has suffered from extremely dry skin for years. We have tried every natural product on the market, from small-batch entrepreneurs at farmers markets to Lush. As soon as he started using Sammy's products, he didn't need to use lotion at all. I wish I had before and after pictures of his feet, not that you'd want to see that, but seriously the difference is amazing. Additionally, the soaps get great lather, smell wonderful, and leave you feeling clean but not dried out. What more can you ask for? I wish I would have stumbled across Sammy Soap years ago! (One suggestion I would make is to label your bags if you buy more than two soaps--which you probably will! We didn't label ours and had a really hard time telling some of them apart once we got home.) read more

I brought my nieces in, they had a chance to interact with Sammy, learn about soap, and lastly make their very own heart shaped soap. Went in only to buy one bar, walked out with an engagement gift, a puppy pillow, aftershave and even a lovely one of kind necklace. This place not only offers a brilliant shopping experience, but has an inspirational story. They treated our kids to a full tour, let them play and make some specially designed soap - and the nice owner/workers told stories about the intriguing history of the building and was super kind. We just stopped in on a whim, too! Loved all of their quality products and what they are doing to help adults with challenges maintain employment while helping their community. Was walking around Kirkwood afternoon with my wife and son. We came a crossed Sammy soap. All there soaps are made in the back with all natural ingredients and essential oils. You can go in the back and look at how all there soaps are made and see all the ingredients they use. They also make laundry detergent with the same all natural ingredients. They even let my son make he's own bar of soap into a duck shape. Using cookie cutters. They have all different kinds of cookie cutters to use and I'm not sure if everyone walking in with a kid could do this. They also let Girl Scouts and probably any other kind of kids club come in by pre registry. To watch them make soap and help grain oats for the soaps. Everyone there is very nice and helpful. They've only been in business for two months so there new. So check out a local business trying to get off the ground. Chris provided her a hands on learning opportunity. Every elementary teacher should consider a field trip here. High school chemistry teachers, Chris breaks down the chemical process like a boss! I insisted on going into the store, based on the beautiful aroma from the street. A young man in the front invited us to tour the soap-making area in the back. The man back there asked if we had any questions. I commented on his large bottles of essential oils, in clear view. He told me that they had even larger containers in the store room. "Who is your supplier? Is it Liberty?" I asked. He immediately moved a wooden stool in front of me. I wondered why. "You can't go in there," he said, meaning the area two feet ahead. Then he quickly started turning the bottles around, making their labels face backwards. I realized that he was not trying to be funny. "I don't care," I assured him. "I've just dabbled in essential oils. That's why I'm asking." He kept frantically turning the bottles backwards, and there were about 50 of them to go. "I'm not trying to steal your trade secrets," I said, feeling tired and sad. I turned around and left the store. What a jerk. Why do they invite people into the soap-making area and then insult them like that? They leave their supplies out. They list every ingredient on cards next to each soap. They asked me if I had a question. And then they accused me of spying? I don't make soap. I don't make anything to sell. Occasionally, I blend a little perfume for personal use. I wouldn't spend a plugged nickel at this store. read more

Myself and my friend were doing some walking around downtown Kirkwood and he wanted to show me inside of Sammy soap because he actually works next door at Billy G's. We walked up to the door not realizing they closed 10 min ago and the lady who I assume is the owner walked up to the the door and said sorry we closed 10 min ago is there anything I can help you with. We told her we were just gonna check everything out and she said hang tight a sec and walked inside. A few seconds later she came out with two bars of soap for us and Said "these are on Sammy today". I know it was just a bar of soap but most people would not have engaged us and just left for the day. As somebody who works for a family owned small business I will definitely be back. After all of that my friend told me the story behind the store and it blew my mind how great of thing that is going on at that store. We need more places like Sammy Soap read more

This is by far my favorite place to shop!!! I stumbled upon Sammy soap one evening after leaving Billy G's back in Dec. The woman had me sold on how wonderful their soap was in about 2 minutes and now I'm there almost every other week (even thought I really don't need soap that often). My second trip there, I couldn't decide which bars I wanted so the girl suggested trying their End cut samplers. since then, i've purchased about 5 more samplers. I've not had a bar/scent that I haven't liked. Your skin is incredibly smooth. A few weeks ago, i got a sampler pack with a facial bar (super moisturizing) my skin (face) is super sensitive but this soap makes my face feel like silk, no joke. I also LOVE Sweet Spearmint . The store has the most incredible scent and my bathroom is starting to smell a bit like it now. If you have not made your way into this store, RUN as fast as you can and buy some bars, you will NOT be sorry. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this store and their soap! read more
