This might be my favorite locally owned shop in St. Louis. The owners, Tim and Curtis, are truly something special. Transplants from San Francisco, they bring such a warm, welcoming energy.... it felt like an instant connection. You can tell they've poured their heart into this space, and it reflects everything that makes St. Louis feel unique and full of character. The shop is filled with incredible finds: metaphysical goods, candles, one-of-a-kind jewelry, scarves, books, incense, stones, and so much more. The process is pretty straight forward pick your container for your candle, pick your scents to mix, then sit down and make your candle. The hardest part is figuring out which type of scents will blend well and the staff weren't very helpful in figuring that out which was kind of a bummer. It was fun mixing scents and figuring out how much of each item to add in. I absolutely recommend doing over the amount of fragrance they tell you to so your candle emits enough fragrance (I saw reviews saying the candle didn't really smell so we made sure to put extra in ours). I made mine as a gift for my aunt and she absolutely loved it, she wanted me to give her another but I have no idea how much I mixed! Although this is more expensive than I expected overall this is a fun experience and a good activity to do. Please note if you want to take it home same day you have to have enough time for it to cool & solidify before you can take it. If you come around closing time you may not be able to take it home. I recommend doing this then going to visit the shops, grab some food, or play some games while you wait for your candle to be ready!

I use a deodorant soap for the manly areas and a Dove for Men product for the rest of my body. After this shower, I am flipping that bird off and replacing it with the locally made soap from Maven. The scent I bought on my first visit was, "my boyfriends t-shirt". I can assure you it does not smell like the t-shirts of the Sharks and Jets after they have been dancing on the rooftops and streets of New York City. In stead it smells like fresh clean laundry that has dried in a fresh summer breeze. The fragrance was so soothing that I also bought it in a Wood Wick Soy Candle and Solid Perfume. I can tell you now, I will be a repeat customer at Maven. I may even have to start considering myself to be a metro sexual, which I have not in the past.

I'm lucky enough to own the collection of love letters from BOTH sets of my grandparents, written to each other during WWII and college years away from Missouri farmland. It took nearly two weeks to find out that the style I selected was out of stock. No worries! I had a second choice already picked out and promptly provided the details. It was frustrating that they kept insisting they didn't have everyone's contact information when all parties involved were CC on all emails I sent. It was also alarming to be told Lisa no longer wished to be on our email communications and I was now to work with a different associate. The final slight came when due to my original choice being out of stock and some back and forth on the written details - I was not given 3 days grace period to approve the proof before being made to place a 50% deposit or lose out on a promotional discount of 20%. I had come in and made a selection 3 weeks prior and well within the promotional deadline. Overall underwhelmed.
