Good company. I have been with sami for 2 and half years. I have lived at vernon stables twice and once at heartland village. My experience has been positive mostly. Sami would always come out to help me within a week or two when i put in a request. Once my Heat went out in the freezing cold this winter and i called the emergency line. That day a maintenance guy came out from a hour away to give me a few heaters until they could get a replacement. Also the manager i think his name was mark was very friendly. I actually signed a lease with another apartment at Vernon Stables but wanted to move to different location there. He was very understanding and although the staff said they cant do that, he was more than willing to change my location before movein. If you need something done and the staff dont help, try talking to the manager it sometimes helps. read more

The maintenance service is poor and my newly leased apartment upon arrival was not cleaned nor cleared out of everything. Window was cracked the blinds were dusty as well as everything in the whole property. Loads and loads of leftover belongings from the previous tenant were left in the apartment for us to clean out. read more

Don't order any package most of the items won't be delivered to the address because the door is locked and don't give out keys for the mail people. I am a new resident, and so far I have had a terrible time with Sami. For starters, I agreed to do early move in. I moved in and the first thing I noticed in my apartment was that there was black mold on a wall in the living room, then I found more spots throughout the apartment. So ofcourse I call the office, to get immediate help for them to clean the mold off the walls. They told me that maintenance will be doing further inspections later in the week and that they will "try" to get someone out today. However, I can't just up and leave and go stay with a family member or a friend while I wait on Sami maintenance to take care of it. I tell them this, and they are like "well you have two options, either wait for maintenance to come out and clean it or return your keys and move back in, on the official move in date." Which would've been in June. I'm sorry but not everyone has the luxury to go and stay with a family member or a friend. It's extremely shitty to disregard a residents living situation and not take care of the problem immediately and not argue with the resident and be shitty towards them about it. So I kept telling them this; that I need someone here today to clean it, because I have asthma and chronic bronchitis, and I am going to get terribly sick because of the mold. To fast forward a little bit, they ended up sending maintenance out eventually, however the manager for maintenance, was telling me that if health inspection came into the apartment, they would say it's "livable". Which that's completely crazy, I had to call the health department for normal township and the health inspector said otherwise and plus they found water damage in one of the bedrooms. Also to note throughout the entire interactions I had with Sami employees in the office, they were rude, non sympathetic and just overall disgusting towards me. Secondly, I have two cats with me at this time, one of them: I am pet sitting for and the other is my service animal. Maintenance, told them that I have two cats, Sami office employees said "Hey, when maintenance was in the unit--they noticed their was a cat. The building is actually pet friendly, but you have to properly register it and pay for it before the animal is supposed to be in the apartment. Do you just have one cat or 2? We can send the pet form to your email. It is $300/pet." $300 per pet!!!??? What the hell is $300 covering and why that much for a cat? Like I have no problem filling out a form for my service pet, and the second cat is gonna be on its way back home next week but why charge residents $300 for a cat?? Like wth, plus when I was just in the office, I was telling Natalie that I didn't know pet sitting wasn't allowed and I just can't get rid of the cat, like I was paid to pet sit and the pet will not have a place to go. She just kept shrugging her shoulders and being disgusting towards me about it. Natalie has an unprofessional attitude in general, if you have been working your job for this long you should know how to have proper customer service skills and not act rudely. Customer service is about growing rapport, being respectful and have a good attitude and a good smile on your face! Overall there is just complete unprofessionalism happening in that office, and something needs to be done about it. The management team won't enforce their own rules of having a smoke free environmenT. I'm also not allowed to have my fiancée here because he was banned from the property and I wasn't given a reason why even though I have always been with him when he was in the apartment. I was accused of things by management which I didn't do. The bathroom vent has been a nightmare and mold keeps growing which just gets painted over. I will not be renting from SAMI ever again. Have lived only at a Sami Property for a few weeks now... and for the most part everything is going extremely smoothly. My AC on the wall was creating condensation that would drip down the wall. TL;DR: Sami will take your money, but will not enforce their policies, update their units, or respond to any of your concerns. I had several problems with this company. 1. They didn't let me know that the unit I lived in flooded during heavy rainstorms. My bedroom flooded once during fall. Maintenance explained that it was "normal" and happened three times to the previous tenant. They set up two large fans to dry the carpet and had me move everything out to the living room. I slept on the floor for two days while they "fixed" issue. First of all, they didn't fix anything, they fixed the symptoms. The issue is obviously an infrastructural problem that cannot be fixed unless this company updated this unit. Also, since the water also leaked from the walls, there's also the possibility of mold. Yikes. 2. Over winter break this year, there was a snowstorm that brought 10 inches of snow overnight. I waited three days until I complained about the driveway being inaccessible. I got a passive aggressive response claiming that I should already own a shovel and suggested to clear the driveway myself. Rude. 3. I signed a lease that prohibited dogs. My upstairs neighbors had a pitbull that they rarely took out to play, which meant that she played inside...all day. Not only that, they would invite other people and other dogs to come and play. This was super annoying, inconsiderate, and wouldn't have been a problem for me if I didn't live directly below them. I complained about it twice, they did nothing. The third time, I asked Sami for compensation for their lack of action and enforcement of policies and they basically responded that I didn't complain enough. 4. I didn't appreciate the snide responses I got from Meg. If you're looking for a company that cares about its customers, this one isn't it. read more

Our microwave barely worked, we would have to turn it on repeatedly for it to work using the circuit breaker. The building was run down, the front door was cracked along the spine and the utilities and rent were absolutely not worth the quality of the apartment. Although they're no better than young america or any of the other realty companies out here, they all know they can scam college students because we don't know enough and individual landlords in this neighborhood can't compete. SAMI Apartments - Home sweet Home !!! - Apartments Near Me - Normal, Illinois

They claim to be providing high speed fiber optic internet in all of their apartments included in the cost. Their website says "The upgrade has improved out downloading and uploading speeds to 100 mbps!" This is an outright lie. When running a speed test on speedtest.net, I have never seen it come above 2mbps. What's worse is this is not even the part that Infuriates me. They can, and will shut off your internet at anytime to send out mass messages. (Things like "We will be by for a maintenance inspection sometime in the next few days"). These messages entirely shut down your internet connection, and are incredibly intrusive because you MUST close your browsers to get the internet to start back up again. I have lost HOURS of progress in online schoolwork, and SAMI refuses to let me or anyone opt out of this because it is provided "For free." (Which it is not, because their rents are higher due to these "All inclusive utilities" plans. ____________ That being said, I haven't had many problems as far as maintenance issues goes, but considering I am a person that relies heavily on technology to do my schoolwork and professional work, I would strongly advise anyone who is interested in an apartment to look elsewhere if having any kind of reliable internet source. read more

Beware of SAMI. We rented an apartment for over five years and sublet the apartment for the last five months of this year's lease. Apparently there is a $300 "termination fee" for subleasing. Unbelievable. We paid for this apartment for over five years and the only thing that was updated in that time period was a new couch. No fresh paint, no new carpeting, no new appliances, etc. SAMI more than got their moneys worth out of us. Where should I begin. I rented under SAMI last school year 17-18. Our apartment was pretty run down and a lot of basic things didn't work (fridge, lights, outlets). By the end of the school year we had a pretty decent relationship with maintenance. Looking past this, my boyfriend and I decided to rent under them again. This time we've had nothing but issues since day one. Multiple maintenance crews (painting, carpet, etc) have come into our apartment to redo things previous maintenance crews have done. Very unorganized. Of the 6 buildings in our area the washer or dryer is broken in 4 of them!!!! After calling SAMI the staff acted like they didn't care and were flat out rude. The amount of needless stress you have to deal with renting through them is concerning. I would not recommend renting under this company! read more

My daughter and her roommates live at 701 Main Street Apartments. They are beautiful. Granite countertops, beautiful new appliances. If there were any problems they were fixed right away. They had a slight problem em with programming on cable but one visit to SAMI and problem solved. I did not want to give Sami a rating at all. There rate will literally be 0. There customer service and hospitality is HORRIBLE! The way they talk to and care for college students is HORRIBLE! Even maintenance is rude and doesn't fix anything. I've put in 15 maintenance reports since I've lived here and only two were fixed which were basics. This is by far the WORSE leasing company that I've dealt with. I would not recommend Sami to any college students nor Bloomington-Normal residents. The rent is awfully high for poor service, communication, and disrespect. the internet here is terrible, the heat in the winter is TERRIBLE, the air over the summer is TERRIBLE it does not circulate through out the house. The guy's name is literally is elder and while I was having trouble making a payment online in his parking lot he sent his security guard to "check" on me. They don't ever drive by my house though and they lie about the amount of balance and have to be bribed with overpayments. I lived here for 2 years while attending college and it's a decent place to live for college students. Our unit had laundry in-unit, and it was recently remodeled. Only thing to be cautious of: Sami likes to be difficult. They will drag their feet when doing repairs and plowing the snow, so you have to be prepared to nag them to get stuff done. Also, they accumulate all fees charged to you throughout the year and then "for your convenience" take it out of your security deposit after 1 year, coincidentally right when people tend to graduate and move out. Since we stayed for another year, we caught it and were able to argue against the fees, which were not warranted and related to another apartment several doors down having a broken window. They originally told us in order to file a challenge for the fee, we had to send a PHYSICAL letter to their address with the complaint. We decided to just go in to the office like normal people and asked to speak to the property manager, and got the fee taken off. Don't let them guilt you in to things, they are the property caretakers and it is their responsibility to maintain and fix things. Keep a copy of your lease and anything you or they sign, and remember ISU offers free legal counsel to students. Also, all the other apartment companies do the same things to college students, so don't listen to others telling you to go somewhere else. Pick an apartment you like the best based on space, location, or whatever, and be prepared to have battles with whichever company owns it. read more

This has to be one of the worst rental experiences of my life. The apartments are dirty, broken down, and falling apart. They charge you for things that were wrong with the apartment before you moved in, they don't fix any of those things, and they have no regard for maintenance while you live there. The carpets are all a nasty blue color. You will be lied to about "high speed" internet. I was given little to no warning when my apartment was being shown, and I was given absolutely no warning when one day they came in, changed the locks, stole thousands of dollars worth of belongings, and I have yet to hear anything about what has happened to my things. I imagine they're in a dump somewhere. Just do the smart thing, get a car and rent away from campus with groups not associated with the university. read more

Be sure to read your lease VERY carefully. Rented through them about 5 years ago and was sued for the entire balance of my lease after I was evicted for missing rent by a month. Called to work out payment arrangement for month I missed after I was evicted, was referred to local lawyer who lives for these situations. I thought that you should know how I feel about Sami. I lived under a lease with this company for 2 years, and it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a particular company. Every single employee seems to have a different idea of how the company works, because every time that I had a question, I got a different answer, and in cases where my roommates would ask the same question, they would also receive a different answer. Especially anything regarding money, which made me feel very uneasy whenever dealing with you. We received a notice in the mail saying that we went over on our utilities. Instead of being sent a statement of the bill, we received a Microsoft Excel document that made absolutely no sense. All of the numbers were incorrect and were just simply arbitrary numbers being added up to an equal balance, no where was the number in which we were charged on our accounts. Another issue involving money that made me uneasy was when I switched cars in my lot. I was told that I had to pay $5 to replace it. Specifically $5 cash, no change, no receipt. Not only is that incredibly sketchy at face value, but you guys do accept cash. So figure that one out. While it's only $5, it's just an example of the type of business that they are. Also, the apartment I lived in this summer, the building was a pig sty. There is graffiti all over the wall and dirt covering the ground. I would feel uncomfortable bringing a child into this building in it's current state. It just made it truly clear to me how little this company actually cares about it's tenants. With a customer service based on confusing the customers, and the upkeep of the units being tossed to the side, their standard of quality is clearly down the toilet, which this company forces upon it's tenants. While I am going to let it go now, I still do not know whether or not all of your dealings are legitimate. Regardless of what it is, this company makes it's tenants feel as though they are not. I have family in this business and know the standards that the landlord should fulfill, so I just wanted to reiterate that this is indeed the absolute worst experience I have had with a company, and a very poorly run business. read more

I have lived through Young America and I thought my experience there was bad. I have never been so insulted and disrespected by the staff here at Sami. EVERY TIME i call, they are ALWAYS the RUDEST people I talk to. The women don't seem to have too bad of an attitude, but how could I even say names when the company doesn't require them to tell you their name when they pick up the phone? and that is shady because they obviously are aware that everyone there has a trash and rude personality so they know if they don't say names, they don't get caught or in trouble! like it even matters!!!! The first time I had an issue, a man by the name Drew had answered the phone and literally told me that if I would let him "finish talking" and then continued to say to me, AFTER I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER, "you probably shouldn't yell at people" when all I was doing was talking while I was sick with the cold and had a raspy voice. The leasing AGENTS (keyword, it is PLURAL because this was said by three DIFFERENT agents) had been telling me and my roommates that the manager was out for vacation. Turns out, he was in a meeting and called me back as soon as he could and got my situation handled (one good thing). NOW lets talk about today, 3/26/19. Over the course of the year, a specific roommate has decided that she no longer wants to live with us. So she starts packing her things and wants to move out. I call this morning at approximately 10:15-10:30 and wanted to BE SURE me and my other two roommates WOULD NOT BE CHARGED and a FEMALE agent had said "as long as you have photographic proof, you will not be charged" when asked if there were damages already, unknown to me, I said no. We go into her room to take pictures OF possible damages, and there is a decent amount. I called back about 43-45 minutes later to ask what to do, and the MALE agent said " nothing. you will all be charged equally at the end of the lease" LIKE WHY DOES NOBODY KNOW THE SAME THINGS. They claim to talk it over with other agents, but evidently this guy missed out on the conversation. I have NEVER witness such awful customer service or unprofessionalism. This company either needs a shut down and get all new staff and leasing agents or close for good. it DISGUSTS me that I lived through this company thinking it was better than young america. I rented through SAMI for 2 years. The maintenance was at my apartment with 24 hours of a request and replaced everything when needed. The office staff was very friendly and always courteous to us. Parking was never an issue and removed the cars that weren't SAMI tenants. Overall I would recommend them to anyone. I previously lived with First Site and I would never recommend them to anyone. When moving out, they charge you damages for previous damage to the apartment. They don't care for their customers like SAMI does. read more

My experience through Sami has not been entirely pleasant. The actual rental I'm staying in has experienced spiders, ants, and fruit flies everywhere. My stove was broken when I moved in, and they tried to blame it on me messing with the electrical wiring behind it. The staff is unhelpful in person and over the phone, and often rude when you have questions about the maintenance of the place/property. The 'high speed' internet is horribly slow, and the messages they send override your internet connection, forcing you to fully shut down browsers with homework in progress. The pool that's only open until Labor Day is often closed for 'chemical cleaning'. Look elsewhere for college rentals. read more

I am shocked at the reviews on here - honestly! I have been renting through Sami for 2 years year round. They have ALWAYS been attentive with any issues that I have had. At the office, there is always someone who is friendly and willing to help you to the best of their ability. I have never experienced bad customer service from them. Beyond this, Sami has helped me with every maintenance issue that I have had with little to no wait. The maintenance team are all really nice people and have always permanently fixed the problems that I have had. I have nothing bad to say about Sami. I think that you definitely get what you pay for and that they take care of their tenants. Have not moved into my apartment yet - ALTHOUGH I have paid my security deposit and 4 months of rent. I was told my apartment was ready for occupancy. NO, It is not. BLACK MOLD (besides being filthy and bug infested). SAMI does not care - Mark the general manager said "A little black mold, no problem!!" The person showing me a prospective apartment did not introduce herself and spoke to me about information that was never discussed with me when I made an appointment for the current viewing. The Kingsley Commons apartment was nasty. The refridgerator was in an awkward location, the carpet was torn and separated, the bathroom was very outdated and overall the apartment was not clean. This place was not presentable, but I guess the staff at SAMI has no shame in what they show their clients. Honestly, SAMI is not worth your time. If you make any worker order it takes them forever to finally start working on it. Sure, the guys that work on them are gentlemen and are very kind (I really do appreciate their hard work), but it shouldn't take more than a week to come out and fix something so minor. Also, my complex does not having in unit washer and dryer, but they offer some coin laundry ones on the third floor. THEY DO NOT WORK. I put my clothes in for an hour and they still come out soaking wet (even using the smallest load). I put in a work order for them to fix them or clean the traps and they did nothing. I should not have to pay $1.50 for dryers that DO NOT work. The internet they provide is always down which I realize is not their fault. It would at least me nice to be given some sort of alert that the internet is down instead of calling their horrible office landline that does not go through half the time. I'm giving one star because you can't give zero stars. I have 6 kids that have lived in apartments all through their college years. This is the one company that ripped us off royally. Be careful! My son moved in with so much wear and tear already done to the place, but his roommates would not sign off on those damages as theirs. He had no other living options, and just hoped for the best. NOT. A. GOOD. IDEA. He received a bill for $500 for repairs, and nothing we could do about it. I just moved out of SAMI apartments and it was the worst experience I've ever had with a rental company. They had painters come in with no notice while I was sleeping. I woke up in my bed to 3 men standing in my door way. This is not the only incident i know of females getting out of the shower to find carpet cleaners in their house with no warning. They then that same day left the front door open almost letting my cat escape. They advertise pet friendly but they also almost let out my neighbors dog too. THE BIGGEST problem I have with them is that they try to jip you on your deposit. I have multiple emails with them complaining about the dog pee smell of the carpet before i moved in and they told me they would shampoo it. Not only did they not do this they are now trying to say the smell is from me and at first tried to say that they did shampoo it. So I then presented them with the email they sent me stating that they didn't clean the carpets. So then they then changed what they were saying now that I have proof, so they then acknowledged that they didn't clean but that it was somehow my fault that they didn't. I said I tried to make another day for them to come back because the email said they would but they never did. So the manager tells me because of all the equipment it requires they wouldn't have come back to do it again and that's why no one answered when I tried to reschedule. So I try to reschedule because u didn't do it the first time and u wouldn't reschedule but that's my fault right? So I had the carpet cleaned myself. Then I talked to previous tenants and one of them had the carpets professionally cleaned by Stanley steamers and it still smells. Thankfully she still has her receipt so I can use it against them. BUT it doesn't end there. They then tried to tell me that the couch and bed were in horrible condition. Which is funny because I brought in my own queen bed because I didn't want to use their full bed. I stored their bed and then returned it to them in the same condition it was given to me. The couch I had them take pictures of the damages ahead of time because the couch had springs and padding come up but now they are saying because the couch had cat hair on it that I have to pay for it to be replaced. Even though they needed to replace it before I moved in and never did. They said "cat hair can not be removed from a couch". I don't know about you but I've been watching commercials for many years of ways cat hair can be removed from a couch. I do it every time I vaccum my couch but some how they are for some reason unable to remove cat hair. I find it convient that they are saying this when they knew the couch needed to be removed anyway. The phone call I had with the manager was extremely unprofessional and they are extremely accusing. The worst part is that I'm not the only one who has experienced this with them. Those people and I are coming together to battle the bills they have made up to send us. I also have the old tenants of my aprtment on my side to back up the condition of the carpet. I would never recommend this SAMI apartments because of my horrible expierence but I especially don't recommend them to people who would feel uncomfortable with people randomly showing up to your apartment. They don't give you enough warning for showings even though they say they give 24hours notice. Out of all the showings I had one 24 hour notice given. Almost all were short notice and painters just show up and let themselves in on their own time. They are horrible and it's extremely disappointing how unprofessional they are. RUN RUN FAR away, find ANOTHER place to stay!!!!!!!! This place is a HUGE JOKE! This place doesn't even deserve the ONE star I gave them. First off when I moved into my apartment it ended up NOT being the one that they originally said I would be in because of some mumbo jumbo. The apartment that they moved me into had MOLD growing in the freezer, around the windows, a/c unit, and also at the corner of the wall and the ceiling. The CARPET was NOT CLEAN and SMELLED because they didn't shampoo it before I moved in. Another issue is "maintenance" (better known as random people paid off the street to wear a "Sami" shirt) have KEYS TO YOUR APARTMENT and can come bouncing in, and you'll be lucky if you even get a knock on the door. I was sleep on the couch one morning after a long night of work only to be awaken by "maintenance" coming in to "check the fire alarm". It's RIDICULOUS! Throughout my year of HELL staying with Sami, they would often and randomly harrass you with calls and voicemails BEGGING to show your apartment and expect you to answer the door with an ear to ear koolaid smile ready and willing to have SOME RANDOM person invade your "PRIVACY" because they have a "right to". I am giving ADVANCE WARNING to run while you can, there are other reasonably priced apartments throughout the Bloomington/Normal area that are much more worthy of your buck!!! And when you want to make a complaint to the "MANAGER" MARK, they are trained like puppies to say he is not in the office and they forward you to his voicemail. I know this for a FACT because I had an issue with maintenance fees mysteriously showing up on my bill for things that were never done in my apartment, and hadn't heard from him for a week. I happen to go in to pay rent one day and saw him sitting in his office chair so I went out to my car and called and asked for him and "magically" he "WASN"T IN THE OFFICE THAT DAY", ohh yea SURE!! I understand Sami is well known and popular around because that's how I was drawn into their web of lies, so I know have a real life experience to share as a warning to ANY POTENTIAL tenants!!! read more
