Terrible apartment complex run terribly. People are constantly getting drunk, knocking on your door and waking you up by screaming in the middle of the night. There was a shooting so if you want to pay almost $1000 for a building that was shot up and they never got security they promised this is the perfect place for you. Instead of fixing any of the actual problems in the building, they just added a workout area. Working the trash that's already broken half the time.. they've not fixed the guest Wi-Fi in a month so the printer or TV don't work. Young America is the devil, and I regret signing with them and now regret going to ISU every day because of them making my college experience miserable. Honestly, if you can't find anywhere else, but young America, I would recommend just considering going to a different college. This experience has been so miserable. Sure that people who work there are nice, but they can't break any of the stupid rules. You also don't wanna live in the 701 building because they have a homeless problem. read more

Update: 12/09/2021 I decided to update this because they stopped crediting my account with a discount and the problem is still not resolved. My bathroom is starting to have black mold everywhere because when the dryer is on it sends all the hot moist air into my bathroom.. so ontop of having the mold problem we had to pay more all of the summer to battle the humidity and heat of the dryer putting back into our apartment. Also the dishwasher has been broken for months with them "fixing" it multiple times and then it flooding our apartment. Update: 10/04/2021 Possible resolution after Speaking with Tanisha. I have been told that the mold will be taken care of tomorrow and that I will be credited an amount while the issue is being resolved. In the meantime I will get a fan from homedepot to ventilate the bathroom so the mold will not come back. They will reimburse me for the fan after showing receipt of the purchase. Once the issue is resolved I will update the review. **I believe the reviews are saturated with fake reviews to overwhelm the bad reviews** Look at most of the 5 star reviews.. Their only review is the flats.. I moved in August 1st and there were a couple of issues but the most substantial was there wasn't any ventilation in the bathroom causing there to be mold. My roommates said the previous tenant had the same issue and that they just painted over it before I moved in. I put in 4 maintenance requests for the same issue. First request: they tested to see if the exhaust fan was pulling by placing a piece of toilet paper against vent. It couldn't even pull a square of TP. It was replaced with a different exhaust fan. It still couldnt. So it must be a blockage in the vents. They painted over the mold. Also when anyone ever uses the dryer in our unit it shoots all the hot wet air into my bathroom. Causing the mirror to be fogged up and the ceiling to drip water. Second request: mold is everywhere.. they did not send anyone over or paint over the mold. Marked ask resolved. Third Request: put on: in progress status.. a month later.. marked as resolved without anyone coming by.. mold has grown.. Fourth request: put on: in progress and then 2 days later marked as resolved. Called office about the issue and they said that maintenance needed to resolve it. Additional notes: WIFI connection is always in and out ,but the Lan seems to work very well though. read more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LIVING HERE AT ALL!! They will take all of your money in any way they can, claim ridiculous "cleaning fees" after you move out even if you take days cleaning your apartment from top to bottom. You will never see your security deposit again and all of the people working in the office are extremely rude and go out of their way to not help you. Will never return your calls oh and they lock all of the trash rooms during moveout so you have to lug everything down flights of stairs and through multiple parking lots to a dumpster that they never empty. I have lived at the flats for two years now and I have ultimately regretted it more and more each day. The positives are this place is close to campus and comes furnished. However the furniture are all a step below ikea and frequently breaks. (4 chairs, the sofa, the tv, my sink all have broken in 2 years) Maintenance is terrible. If you have a problem expect it to be fixed any time between 1 week and 8 months. I had a broken window for 6 months of the winter and they didn't repair it until I threw a fit. Often they don't even change smoke alarms if they know they are out. The price is exorbitant at nearly 800 a month plus 400 a semester for parking. That's about 12k for a year round lease. Or 48k if you have 3 roommates. Now based off that Chicago level rent you would think that it would be high end but that is not the case. Often piles of puke or spills lay in the halls or elevators for days at a time. Especially over weekends. A shining light is the man who deals with mopping and vacuuming the floors because he is very friendly and does a great job. The fire safety of this place is lacking as if there is a fire you have to go to each floor and pull the alarm to inform the residents otherwise just your floor gets informed. The parking is horrible. I pay 200 for a lot that is a 4 minute walk away. The spots are so small in order to maximize space that my Jeep Patriot (a medium sized car) has about 6 inches of room between the lines. They will lie to you, they will try to over charge or raise your rent without discussing it first. The Flats is not a place I would ever recommend and I advise you stay away. read more

I actually just moved into the Flats, and so far the experience has been pretty good. The people in the front office are super friendly and helpful. If they are not in they are really good about getting back to you! The apartment is very nice itself, definitely a huge step up from the dorms! read more

As a parent I would never recommend this building. The leasing company nickels and dimes you to death. They are constantly sending out obnoxious warnings and threatening legal actions if you are at all late on the rent. My daughter left school mid year and they fined us extensively for not paying the first 2 months rent on time. They fined us an excessive $150 when we told them that we could not pay the entire 5 months (January thru May) until March. Although the amenities are nice, security was also a concern. On several occasions I watch several students walk in and out of building lobby that did not live there. The rent is also extremely expensive. Students can do much better some where else. read more

I have lived at the Flats since August and have had non stop issues since then. The apartment that we had picked out was trashed and filthy when it was time for us to move in. There were stains on the wall and cabinets were missing handles. This in itself is unacceptable. Later on, we were misled by the 'staff' in the office about what parking lot to park in which resulted in my roommate being towed. Also, another resident brought it to our attention that the staff was speaking to other residents about my entire apartments private information such as our billing fees and fines. They constantly check your rooms and common areas. Our fridge has broken three times and ALL of our food went bad. The furniture is very low quality, you will ALWAYS go over the allotted electricity/water budget, and the office staff has always been less than helpful, usually just blatantly rude. Definitely not worth the money. That is clearly all they care about. read more

I have never had an issue. Everything always works well and the extra charges are never ridiculous. Like people have said, it's not cheap, but you have your own room, bathroom, and a TV that connects to wifi, so I don't know what exactly they're complaining about?? Paying for luxury?? read more

Definitely enjoy how close it is to campus and lots of other places around Normal. The apartments themselves aren't that bad, I especially love how each person gets their own bathroom. Don't love that our hallway smells like weed from the people down the hall and the dog that they let run up and down the hall at night. read more

I moved into my apartment and was disappointed to see that things weren't cleaned very well. Lights were burned out. There was a good amount of damage to doors and kitchen cabinets. The apartments are nice in that they have granite countertops and stainless steal appliances, but for how much I'm paying for rent, I expected a little more care given to each unit. Not to mention they messed up my roommates and gave me "randoms" rather than who I signed the lease with, so I had to switch to a different building in order to room with my friends. read more

This place has been great for me and my needs. It was a lot easier to have my ESA animal than Young America. Like all college apartments around campus for Illinois State there are some minor issues such as their amenities such as tanning, grilling, fire pits do not work even though the keep saying "they will be fixed" I have yet to see them work. The really nice thing is roommate placing and how they do not charge you for empty rooms if you do not have any roommates. 7/10 times the roommate matching will be spot on and other times it will not be. Also what is really nice is the space in general it is very open and spacious and very nice that with the cost of living comes with cable and wifi where most other places do not have that. Also the on site gym is very nice for when ISU gym is very pack. Another downfall though is the parking. It is a rip off in my opinion where inside is $400 a semester, when the garage door openers work maybe 5/10 times and for there being at least 30 open spots and each person paying that much a semester they are getting so much money for an inside space that really isn't great beside the whole covered parking being a thing. If they brought down those rate it would be a lot nicer. Maintenance has not been a problem for me when I needed help it has usually been the next business day if not the same day. One of my last problems has been mail. I have lost multiple packages because of living here with their mailboxes being outside the locked doors. USPS is also god awful in this town anyway and they do not give a crap about peoples belongings. Finally however the staff at the Flats is by far fantastic! They have been nothing, but nice and helpful. If the community assistants cannot help you they do direct you to someone that does. It is also very nice that they do resident events every month, which makes it very nice to live here. I would live here again if I was not graduating, but I would wish the rates would be lower for rent and parking plus all the amenities that they emphasize would work. read more
