Love the pizza from this place. Great sauce and New York style which I love. (I HATE Greek style pizza which seems to be very popular around here) My only complaint is that I've ordered five pies from here and NOT ONCE did I receive exactly what I ordered. One time I was offered a small discount off of a future order ($1.50) and another time a few slices of cheese pizza. Not the attention to details that I was looking for. I've also ordered a few subs and while one was delicious, the other two were made on not so fresh bread. Very inconsistent. read more

i go here maybe 2 times a week and get 2 slices and a small drink for $4.99. the pizza rules this area and the subs are good too. they have never been rude to me and the quality is very consistent. go grab a slice... you will be happy. this place seems to have a solid townie clientele, so if you are there by yourself chances are youre gonna hear some pretty outrageous shit being said. i had them deliver twice before and was bummed on the pizza... it just isnt the same if they dont reheat the slices in the oven for you. this place still rules though.enjoy read more

This place seems to be an old school joint. The people are very nice. The menu covers all the bases. I have not had breakfast here, but the selection seems nice. The pizza is great. I am quite sure that it is the best in Jamaica Plain. It is more pricey than The Real Deal a block down the street. The pizzas are also smaller, but my opinion remains that the pizza here is the best in the neighborhood. I have had the lasagna twice with meatballs. I thought the meal was very good. They make a great steak and cheese. This is a great neighborhood "hole in the wall" with amazing pizza and real friendly people. read more

I have been going to Same Old Place for over 20 years....but got the impulse to order a pizza after reading the reviews....I did just now..and it was delivered piping hot!!! Had my favorite on one side...Anchovy with onions and green peppers and pepperoni on the other side....was very good!!!!! read more

Their cheese slices are delicious! Generous sized slices. However, I was very disappointed by their Greek salad with chicken.Usually places grill and slice a whole breast adding it on top of the salad. When I ordered one from Same Old Place, the salad was ok and the chicken on top was little fried cubes. It was gross, I was very disappointed. The Greek dressing was good though. read more

Getting good pizza has always been an issue, at least since I lived there 10 year ago. And the other night, reminded me of one of the few drawbacks to living in JP. I was visiting friends, and we figured we would try SOP for some pizza, since there were so many positive reviews. I assumed things had improved. Nope. Still OK, at best. We got a large pizza with onions, peppers, and spinach; and it tasted pretty bland. AS were the onion rings. For now, I'll stick with Real Deal, Zestos, or Bella Luna. read more

Definitely NOT the Same Old Place. What happened? It's been a while, but I was looking forward to The Same Old Place's reliable and excellent brand of New York-Style Pizza. I ordered my old standby, 2 slices, a drink and a Greek Salad. I really like my fresh pizza hot, and always order it that way. Instead I got two doughy, barely lukewarm slices (the topping was decent and the drink was cold). The salad was pretty large ($7.25) made up mostly of wilted and brown lettuce, and the "Greek Dressing" was a salty thin concoction. When I asked for some Pita Bread for the salad I was told it was made to order and would be $1.83 extra. Jesus Christ, almost 10 bucks for a crappy salad if you wanted bread. Obviously the place was under new management, and not for the better. JP has too many good to excellent pizzerias, so I guess "the Real Deal" will be my fallback, and I'll start exploring some of JP's other pizza places. Nice while it lasted. read more

I've had great meals at this place in the past, however today I was really disappointed. I ordered a simple fish and chips dinner and received a small fillet of fish and some chips. In the past the plate would be full and looked good. Today this looked like it was missing food and what was there wasn't even good. I've talked to others and it seems that ever since the owner passed, the quality has gone down. Sorry but I'll probably try going somewhere else from now on. read more

I'm not sure why I keep giving this place chances...maybe because I work across the street. The staff is rude, I am never greeted nor am I told to have a nice day like the people who pick food up in front of me. I have had the steak and cheese sub and it was mediocre. Not enough meat and looked thrown together. I've ordered wing ding dinners a few times, hoping it would get better. I'm not sure why they use steak fries but that was an instant turnoff. AWFUL lousy NOT consistent food and tonight we are convinced they lack on details and lack quality. We ordered 2 Gyro wraps through grub hub. Order was modified since they Ran Out of Beef so swapped chucked instead but a bit of Turn OFF to begin with. The food came prompt but very cheap sloppy presentation. Very old salad not fresh and the chicken was not tasty very little taziki sauce. It was very poorly put together. The Fries came in a Heavy duty OILY bag and also looked terrible. Next time put it in a tin container so the lay out is more appealing because of the oily look makes it all Look WORTHLESS and equally tasteless :/ simply AVOID the gyros. Last time the burgers were very good but I don't think I'll be ordering again the food made our stomachs feel unsettled. Gyro bread was Not toasted as requested and the bread itself was very heavy in breading. We lost our appetite and it was a waste of $25.00 perhaps I will be disputing this one with grub hub directly. I just finished my breakfast from Same Old Place, and it was just what I wanted, two eggs, toast and home fries for 3.50!! The people here are so friendly and always working. You feel like family when you go there. The pizza is always hot and delicious. Even the reheated slices taste wonderful despite being reheated. It's never burnt either. They even have someone specifically to answer the phone for take out and delivery orders. Whenever I have their pizza delivered it always arrives earlier than the quoted time and it's hot. The consistency with their food is great. I typically prefer thick crust pizza, but they have the best thin crust pizza I think I've had while living in Boston the past 4 years. I also love pizza sauce and am disappointed when pizza joints skimp on this integral part, but they always put the right amount on. Their omelets are delicious, and they also provide pancakes, french toast, pasta dishes and subs and wraps. GREAT!! I haven't had a bad dining experience there once. read more

I grew up eating their pizza, it was for a time to me the best around this part of town. I mean if your a real pizza lover, then you know there are few places that do it right. Santarpio's in East Boston, Regina's in the North End, Bianchi's in Revere and for awhile SOP in JP. The subs here are OK at best, the burgers are average and the pizza is best when eaten at the location. But, sad to say their pie isn't what it used to be. read more

Horrible! I ordered some chicken strips with onion rings and cole slaw (that I never got even when I contacted them) and the taste was horrible. My husband ordered stuffed shells (and they only gave him 2 1/2 with 2 strips of chicken with more sauce than food. For my son I got him a cheeseburger and it tasted like bubblegum. Ohhh and for $30.00 I would have gone to Chilli's or someplace else... prices are stupid and worth it if the food was good. But it was HORRIBLE! ohh and also, had to wait an hour and a half for the delivery on Sunday morning... Probably the best option for pizza delivery in JP (one time I got drunk and really wanted Papa John's because I was listening to the Eugene Mirman sketch about abortions and pizza and neither the Papa John's in Roxbury Crossing or Forest Hills would deliver to JP which is pretty much the biggest WTF of all time). I am a dirty dirty vegetarian, and HERE IS MY WARNING: Same Old Place does not know what to do with vegetarians. Once I was feeling fancy and asked them to put eggplant, garlic and mushrooms on the pizza, and when it came the eggplant ruled ass but the garlic and mushrooms had clearly been shoveled out of some jars. I DO NOT HOLD THIS AGAINST THEM because the basic pizza components are frigging great and who cares, load a bunch of extra cheese on, every neighborhood needs a pizza place run by burly guys who do not give a single frig about your organic arugula or smoked maple bacon macaron or snap peas. I ordered the chicken gyro, wings, and antipasto salad. Gyro tasted nothing like a typical gyro, the wings were what you would find in a tv dinner, and the salad was made with meats and cheese that I wouldn't feed my dog. All I ate of the salad was the vegetables and the lettuce was not even cut up. I have nothing good to say about ANY of the $45 worth of food that was delivered. On top of all that, the food was cold because it was delivered in a plastic grocery bag AFTER a 1hr and 15 min wait. This is seriously the worst service I have ever received from any place ever. Not only did the last time I tried to order we got "disconnected" several times but they acted like they didn't speak English. This is the absolute worst food buying experience I've ever gone through. After the situation I went into place an order there because I was dead exhausted and they said something must have been wrong with their phones-again total bs. It's a fucking land line and I'm in a call center at work I know that excuse. I call back after having a decent experience walking into order. They place me on hold for 5 minutes, then it is taken off hold but all you can hear is background noise from people ordering or the workers explaining orders or whatever else. The guy finally comes back and acts like he never knew I was waiting for food. I explained what happened and he was like "yeah yeah ok well I'm the only one here. What do you want?" And I just lost it. He hung up on me. This place has lost all respect from me. I love the pizza but everytime I try to eat there it's a stressful experience because of the service being worst than dog shit. This place is the absolute worst. I love this pizza shop! Everyone there is very friendly and the atmosphere is cozy! I always " dine in" and eat the pizza, fresh out the oven, not reheated...but fresh! It's ssooo good! The TV's are a good catch, you can sit down with friends, laugh, talk, eat and watch television once you wait for your food to settle. The location is swell! There is a JP Licks next door and Jamaica Pond is right down the street! Stopping in for lunch on the weekends, we make it a ritual! I really love the pizza here. Really. I do. I discovered this place almost two years ago and I've always thought that they have the most delicious pizza around. I'd love to give these guys 5 stars but, unfortunately, their service leaves A LOT to be desired. Their delivery times have always been pretty long for me. The first time I ordered, they told me that my order was somehow mysteriously lost in the fax machine or something (I used GrubHub) and rewarded me with a gift card after what was almost a two-hour wait. Normally, I would never reorder from a place that made me wait so long, but like I said, the pizza was delicious and I had a gift card. However, I don't think I've ever received a delivery from them in under an hour (and I don't live very far, even in the heaviest of traffic). To top that off, lately their service has just been sloppy. Twice I've called and stated my intention to pay by credit card/given my card number, only to have the delivery guy arrive expecting me to pay in cash. In January, my pizza was delivered by a guy who reeked of weed. When I opened it, I found that it had been sitting on its side or something during the ride and all of the cheese had slid to one side. I was hungry so I ate it anyway, although this did impact the deliciousness factor a bit, and only after I had eaten it did I realize that I should've taken a picture to share on Yelp. Now yesterday, I ordered from Same Old Place for the first time since the weed/sliding cheese incident. I was given a 45-minute estimate, but my phone records indicate that it took 1 hour and 32 minutes for my pizza to be delivered (ridiculous). I called to check on the status of my delivery at the 1 hour and 7 minute mark and was told that the delivery guy had left "about a half an hour ago," and should be to my house at any moment. When the delivery guy finally arrives, he of course expects me to pay in cash and I have to give my credit card number again over his phone. The worst part is, I get my pizza back to my kitchen and it's COLD. Not warm in the slightest. In all of my previous dealings with Same Old Place and long delivery times, at least the pizza has always arrived warm. Cold pizza, in my book, is really the most egregious offense. Nobody has ever eaten a delicious cold pizza (I don't think). Especially when it cost $19 for a large cheese. So, while Same Old Place has the potential to be great, there's also a pretty significant chance that they just won't have their shit together. read more

I normally enjoy the greek wrap. Today, I called in and ordered over the phone. When I arrived the woman who had taken the order asked if I wanted dressing on my greek wrap. She rang up my purchase, took my $7. I told her I did want dressing, greek. She asked if I wanted her to put it on the wrap for me, I said, "sure." She proceeded to open my sandwich with BARE HANDS, after having touched my money. I asked he to remake it. She asked why and I informed her that it was unsanitary to handle money, then food. She immediately got an attitude. She remade the wrap and tossed it on the counter. I said thank you. She did not reply. I normally get great service and the folks that prepare food normally wear gloves. This is the first issue in my many visits. read more
