Wander a short distance down the road from the Milan airport hotels and you'll find Samarcanda: a wonderfully welcoming travels respite. We enjoyed a cured meat and cheese platter and several orders of gnoccchi. They also have plenty of pizza options that I would try on my next visit that looked absolutely delicious. We did not have a reservation so we experienced a short wait of 10 minutes for dinner around 20:00. I recommend calling ahead for a reservation if you have a larger party. The staff was very friendly and thankfully spoke enough English to cater to the tourist crowd from the hotels. read more

A short nonchalant recommendation by the hotel front desk had us question if we were just brushed off. Instructed to walk and not taxi as it was less than a half mile away and would take just 5 minutes. Sunny day and straight down the street sounded simple enough. By our experience, it is not the best neighborhood and advise against walking at night! We questioned our choice to walk through the sketchy neighborhood. More like 10 minutes. Inside ~ dated. A mismatched mix of decor. Empty. Regret sets in. Result ~ service was unexpectedly friendly! The waitress pointed out the favorites from the menu and all our appetizers & entrees were savory and delicious! The champagne was a bit flat and was replaced immediately with hurried attentiveness. We were recommended Samarcanda by our Airbnb host while we stayed next to the Milan Malpensa Airport. They have a variety of steaks and pastas that you can get here. We have been to Italy 5 times. I think this is our favorite restaurant in the whole country. We ate there twice. It is out of the way, near Malpensa Airport of Milan. The wife had the black angus sirloin with chimichurri sauce, it was tasty but very tough, lots of fat and only ate half of it, probably wouldn't order again. We had the 24 month raw ham and buffalo (appetizer) which was fresh and excellent! We enjoyed that with the fresh soft baked bread, olive oil and balsamic which came table side. Service was excellent and we will be back! Nice hidden gem! Be sure to get there before 7pm when doors open if you want an early meal. It gets busy as night sets in.....but they accommodate you quickly even if you're late !!!!! You have to end with the lite and delicious tiramisu made daily in house! Found this restaurant on Google and Yelp because we were staying close to the MXP airport. Recommend getting a reservation - it is a definite hot spot! Getting past the night club music and digital menus was a bit annoying - putting cell phones away and having an option for paper menus would start things off on a more positive note; however, food and wine were delicious and reasonably priced. This place was a wonderful surprise ! I checked in the hotel at 3pm and the place was quiet. Although located 2 miles from the airport, it felt like a small Italian village. It has a church, and yes, the Clock does chime periodically. I wondered to the bar around 5.30pm. Snacks are provided. I took you Yelp, and found this place walkable and easy access. The restaraunt is charming, friendly, and the waiters very helpful. I ordered stak on a stone, medium rare. It was delicious and tasty. Prosecco helped it down. Amazing Pizza and Wine. This place is always busy so make a reservation. The atmosphere is sort of a hybrid between traditional Italian inside outside dining and hangout dive bar. It's a fun place with an open pizza oven kitchen where you can watch the hundreds of pizzas they make daily get made to order. Insider tip: opt for a table not too close to this oven it's warm. The wine is outstanding but the beer is the star of this bar with a full set of proper German taps and liter mugs it's always Oktoberfest here! My recommendation is the Calzone. The wait here was terrible and there was a lack of organization. The only reason I went here was because our taxi driver and Airbnb host recommended this place. I got here around 7PM and the wait was about an hour. Along with others that were there, I struggled getting the attention of the servers to even put my name down. There was no actual wait list because I watched them write peoples names down on a post-it and place along with a bunch of other post-its on the bar counter top. We decided to just order togo and eat it back at our Airbnb instead. Even that took a while to get our order in. We ordered the bomba pizza and a random pasta dish. Our hotel told us they have the best food around...a short 10 minute walk and we were there! We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened and this place did not disappoint. Best Italian pasta and pizza we have had in Italy ! The house red wine was smooth and enjoyable. It came in a nice carafe! As the only option for dinner (our hotel sent us here since they were not serving dinner at their in-house restaurant), we were afraid the place would be underwhelming and expensive. We were happy to discover it was the complete opposite: Wonderful food and wine at a very affordable price for two. While it could have easily been super crowded on a Saturday, but we were able to get a table without reservation. (It was October so perhaps it's less crowded off-season.) The handmade gnocchi in a lamb ragu and the spaghetti carbonara were outstanding, and the rest of the menu looked just as delicious. Our only complaint was that the service was very slow at times, despite not being a packed house; seems only one waiter was covering the entire room. Nonetheless, we were happy to have such a wonderful "last supper" on our last night of our Italian vacation. read more

We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we dined here three times during our three-week vacation in Italy (twice upon arrival, once before leaving). Their pizzas are some of the best we had in Italy. I can't say that I am an expert on panna cottas but theirs were so fresh and quite remarkable. We had both the chocolate and the raspberry toppings. On our third visit, we came in just a few minutes before they closed after lunch. We were so happy that they still took us in. Although the waiter was pretty abrupt on taking our orders, he was very polite and apologetic for rushing us to place our order. He explained that the cooks will be leaving soon. Actually, we were just pleased that they took us in. After the restaurant closed, the staff were enjoying their family-style meal after their work, while we were peacefully left alone to finish our meal. Prices are so reasonable. I find the name of this restaurant to be more reminiscent of Mongolia and the silk route trade than Italy! Anyway, went here with work colleagues again and found the food while good, not as superior as that of La Quercia. I got a beer tasting menu for my drinks - got served 5 beers, didn't like 2 so not a bad average. My entree was ham with figs -traditional Italian which I was desperate to try, but not sure if it lived up to my hopes. My 2nd colleague got the salmon and monkfish terrine with pumpkin and while the pumpkin was nice, the fish was a bit meh. Finally my 3rd colleague got a caprese - decent but not as good as yesterday! So then for my main, I decided to get pink tagliatelle with squid and octopus - pretty decent but I wish the squid had been grilled it something as it was sorta tasteless - the past tasted nice and fresh however, so a redeeming grace. My colleague got a fish of the day, which he said was ok, and the 3rd colleague got salad which he said was decent. We didn't stick around for dessert as the food had been generous size and quite filling. So personally, my preference would go to La Quercia rather than coming here again. read more

We asked our waiter for a house white wine and he asked if we would prefer a fruity or dry (which is very considerate around here to ask your preference). We also had a calzone which was HUGE (picture attached) and some pasta. It was all amazing, the basil seemed as though it had been picked AS it was heading out to our table. The gelato was also amazing (vanilla, strawberry). Our waiter was extremely kind and also acting as a host AND checking people out at the front, yet he greeted us as soon as we walked in. We also had a beer flight of 6 that was only €7. Overall we had 3 people with 3 meals, dessert, 3 drinks and a beer flight, and it was still only €58!! Our last meal in Italy was eaten at this local restaurant which was recommended by our hotel receptionist. We knew it was a good recommendation when we saw our cab driver from yesterday with his wife waiting for a table. The interior was very charming in a soothing way. We ordered a bacon and anchovies salad, bacon pizza, and a fish of the day which was a sea bass. All the dishes tasted excellent. The fish was simply grilled with a little sea salt for seasoning. We added fresh lemon juice and olive oil at the table, so light and tasty. The salad was very fresh and refreshing with just the right amount of anchovies and bacon to balance the olive oil / balsamic dressing. The pizza was huge and tasty, also big enough to share. Service was friendly and attentive. The only negative was the foods took a little too long to arrive. read more

This place is the only decent restaurant near the airport! We mistakenly thought we would be ok walking to the restaurant from our hotel, which is right by Terminal 2. Don't walk!! Take the bus! It's still a little bit out from the bus station but if you have navigation, getting there will be just fine. There's a lot of tables but they fill up really quick. We got there maybe 15 to 20 minutes after they opened and all outside tables were full and 1/3 of the inside. We were seated after a couple minutes of waiting. I ordered a salad to start and my boyfriend ordered the charcuterie plate. For our mains, I got pasta carbonara and he got a diavolo pizza. That salad was HUGE! I loved this salad though- it's salad greens topped with corn, tuna, mozzarella and drizzles with the table side olive oil and balsamic vinegar so you can control how much you put on there. The salad was really good, big portion and wasn't expensive either. The pasta was ok..I'm not a big fan of al dente pasta but the pasta was a bit softer than al dente so it was ok for me, but the taste was very creamy but plain. I wasn't wowed. The pizza diavolo was decent as well, nothing special. The bread they serve and the salad were the highlight of the meal! If you are trying to stay around the airport, I would try to get here as soon as they open! Their menu is huge so I would definitely try this place again. read more
