I cannot express enough how welcoming, friendly, and clean this yoga studio is! Everyone here…read moretreats you like family. Their motto is "you are enough" which is such a beautiful sentiment that everyone should hear during a yoga class. I did their $30 for 30 days new client special which is a great deal, and cheaper than I've seen at other Houston hot yoga studios. The space is modern, they are in the midst of their construction right now (they are expanding! YAY!) but you wouldn't know it by how spotless they keep the studio. The class schedule is not overwhelming, they have on average 3-4 classes a day, not bad. I highly recommend any class with Wendy Foster Elliot, she is the owner, and is so down to earth, but it is her energy that transforms each class to an invigorating level of energy. The classes are heated but not super hot (I wish they were a bit hotter, but I love to REALLY sweat) the room is at about 90 for a flow class. Dan Houston's fascia flow on Tue/Thur early mornings (6a) is a great way to start your day, it is a great stretch, and only 45 minutes - totally doable! Friday Happy Hour classes with GK are filled with great music and are a great way to get a good sweat going. A huge bonus of this studio is they have EVERYTHING you could need INSIDE the room you will be doing yoga in FREE of charge. They have mats, towels, sticky grip mat towels, blocks, straps, cups for water, even cases for glasses (my personal favorite)! This is a total game changer because all you have to do is show up to the studio and everything is already there waiting for you. More studios should offer these things for free. You cannot go wrong with coming here, they give foot massages during savasana and an essential oil scented (dry) eye towel - you will feel like you're at the spa. I cannot recommend this place enough and I am so excited they are continuing to grow!

My friend brought me to Salt Power Yoga just over a month ago. My first class was "happy hour yoga"…read more- 60 min yoga with Wendy, followed by happy hour snacks and drinks. I felt this sense of belonging. I didn't know anyone but I felt right at home. The instructors genuinely want and try to get to know each of us and make us feel appreciated as a member of the Salt Power community. Each instructor has similar style and poses/flow moves, but adds their own unique flare. Some classes are instructed with music, but most are silent and all you can hear is your breathing. My single, most favorite thing about Salt Power is the inclusion and the warmth (figuratively, not literally though it is ~90F). No matter each individual's place in their practice, the instructors always make sure to express to everyone that whatever they are doing is accepted and amazing. Personally, I respond well to positive affirmation so I really appreciate this. If I don't have a pose, but it is recognized that I am working on it, it encourages me to try harder. It's not everybody's style, but it sure is mine! If you haven't checked out Salt Power and are unsure about committing to a place to practice, you can check out their Happy Hour class because it is donation based and you really get a sense of the community. Every class I go to, I make at least one new friend, but usually more. In addition, they have an awesome promotion where the first 30 days are only $30. That's the equivalent of 2 drop-ins. What a steal. I am so happy I found Salt Power and I am so excited for my journey with them.

Not an expert on yoga, but it didn't feel as traditional as most yoga that I've taken. Also, not a fan of the instructor mentioning "burning a couple of inches" off your waist because that kinda took me out of the yoga mindset. They don't have mirrors if that something you desire to check your form, but it is something that I've come to enjoy at times. At the end you get a nice towel over your eyes, which was a good finishing touch.

I did…read morecrossfit for a long time, but kept getting back injuries because I needed to strengthen my core more. Enter Control Studios and their Classical Pilates. First of all, the classes there are all basically "privates" because they're only 5-6 people. I liked this a lot because I had no idea what I was doing and having someone be hands-on correcting you and actually paying attention to your form made ALL the difference in the work out and results. Other pilates studios I went to had about 15-30 people in them and while they were slightly challenging, it was nothing compared to a Control Studios workout. (Probably because I was doing stuff wrong and didn't realize what I needed to engage until it was explained to me at Control) They utilize a whole range of equipment: from mat work, to towers, to chairs, to spine correctors, to barrels, to a cadillac, and probably some other stuff I haven't used yet. Whatever class you're in, you're going to sweat and feel it the next day (For the guys too!) My back has never been stronger and I actually have abs again, so I basically feel like sending them a thank you card every time I look in the mirror. The studio itself is relaxing, adorable, and easy to access for all types. They have introductory classes to try out if you're not sure what all "classical pilates" entails and I just can't endorse this studio enough.

Full review: I really wanted to love this place since it looks so peaceful and nice. However, once I took a class here, I went months without going to any other pilates class anywhere. I am still a beginner and learning the ropes but had already been to several classes at other places. After going to a class here, I felt embarrassed for even trying to get into Pilates. During the class the feeling kept increasing and the instructor wasn't truly reassuring, seemed almost annoyed even. At the end she recommended private classes which kind of topped it all off and made me take a break from boutique gyms in general. Not sure if it was a sales strategy or just how they are, but unfortunately this studio was not an encouraging place for beginners.

Recently began taking intermediate level salsa dance lessons here. Overall I give 4 stars based on…read morethe location, instruction, reasonable cost of lessons, and spacious venue, as well as a very friendly atmosphere! Hector, Sarah, & Claudia Vasquez are the instructors. Hector is a straight to the point person, and keeps the class moving on schedule. We were able to knock out a fairly complex dance routine in one hour. I consider the routine upper intermediate considering the speed of the steps required to finish the pattern. If you are new to salsa, this would have been a difficult pattern to figure out. We had time to practice during the lesson with multiple partners. You don't need to bring any dance partner with you, many of the students came solo. The lesson started at 9:30 pm on Tuesday and we finished around 10:30. What I really liked was they started playing music right after and opened the dance floor to practice some more. And they offered wine, crackers, and cheese to socialize & schmooze as well. Nice touch. CultureBeat held a salsa social dance here last night. It's a BYOB with $10 cover, and Although the rain was pouring, people were flocking in. Lots of dance space, and slick dance floor. They played salsa, bachata, and kizomba as well... And again great atmosphere! Worth mentioning, the venue has its own parking lot however, the building is located east of down town in a not so great neighborhood, and that's the only reason I did not give a full 5 stars. Otherwise, as I always say, Viva La Salsa!!
