I got this email basically warning me that all gift card transactions will incur a $3 fee. Is this fair? Absolutely not. How gross. Aside from this, I can't really say my experiences there recently have been great; the bar overcharges for drinks and the bartenders automatically set the card reader to a 20% tip on your beverages. I'm not kidding. They rush you to pay for your drinks if you're using credit so as to distract you from the automatic tip setting. If you don't catch it and change it, you're screwed. I don't mind tipping, I just don't like a place using scummy practices like this and essentially forcing you into tipping. Also...notice the lack of diversity in their show lineups: Mostly tribute bands. That's fine but like...there used to be variety, there used to be so much more. Anyway, I'm leaving this review as a life-long NT resident who misses the old Riv. It was truly magic.

I did not feel crowded in my seat, but in order to get to a seat in the middle of a row, the other patrons must exit the row. There is no "wiggle room" to get by the already seated patrons. She has had an awesome guitar teacher who has always collaborated with her on what songs she would like to figure out and learn. We have nothing but praise for the staff at Performing Arts. They offer so many lessons, from guitar, piano, drums, and vocal lessons. They have extra things like rock band that the kids can be a part of also. But they don't only offer lessons to children they offer lessons to adults too! They just started a new program for little ones from 2-6 also called Musiking which is an introduction to music for children. If your looking for lessons you need to check out Performing Arts!

The plays used to be full length and entertaining but the past two seasons have been like the whole organization is circling the drain. Everything from super short performances to one woman shows to bad and boring subject matter. In addition, now they have lost their lease with Damien Collage, had a failed attempt at using taxpayer money to move to another location in Amherst and are now moving to downtown Buffalo with no free parking and a risk of personal safety. We feel this last season was worth less than 50% of what they charged us. For all these reasons we are not renewing our season tickets. Based on the half empty seats it's obvious that other season ticket holders also don't feel it's worth it anymore.

Community Theater at its finest! This was not my first show here and it won't be my last…read more Everything I have seen is fantastic from front to back of house. They have a couple of pre-sale ticket locations but being from out of town I can not access those sites easily. I do wish they had online sales for convenience but there has always been tickets available at the door so I don't stress out about it. Before the show you can peruse through giant scrap books with past shows and other theater information. It is cool to be able to look through a troupes history. Enjoy a snack any time as refreshments are sold before and during intermission. Just follow theater etiquette and try to keep the wrapper rustling to a minimum. Their home is in the Sheridan Parkside Community center which is an old school. The only slight flaw is that the seats are less than ideal due to the age of the facilities, but they are currently raising money to renovate the seating so I expect that issue to be resolved in the coming year. I believe all shows run two weekends at least and they often offer dinner theater on opening night of some shows. The acting is supurb, the sets are stellar and it has always been a great night of entertainment. I encourage you to support Towne Players, support your community and support the arts. It is worth it!

Annoys the bleep out of me that most broadway shows come to Shea's and not here. I actually think this facility is better suited to live theater than Shea's. I've seen several shows here (from Rent to India Arie), have had a few graduations here, have even been to a few school orientations here in the atrium, and have performed here myself too. It's wonderful. My only complaint from seeing the Brian Setzer Orchestra perform their Christmas Concert here the other night, is that some seating (the middle back area) isn't optimally designed to see the stage well. Especially if you have tall people sitting in front of you. And actually, the Brian Setzer concert was SUPER loud. I was glad I had my noise-cancelling ear buds on me. I used them as ear plugs. The best show I've ever seen here was India Arie in 2006. It was AMAZING. I love her as a performer and the intimacy of this venue (we sat like 6th row) made is so amazing. More shows should go on here!!! BTW, if you're looking for better parking, park on the lake side of the Center (back past the Flint Village Apartments). You'll have to walk up very steep steps (kind of cagey when icy) but you'll walk right in. Great access point!

We attended an event called Blue Monday with Jack Civiletto (Chicago Jack) leading the group. Each week has a guest singer. This week it was Rod Nickson. This was followed by an open blues jam session where other local blues musicians are welcome to join in. Reserved seating is recommended with other tables available depending on the crowd. There's limited but good food menu and reasonably priced drink menu. Enjoyable fun night. If you're not into blues (which I love!) You can check their calendar for other option. From my first visit to the most recent it's a 5 Star entertainment venue. We come to listen to the best of the best of Western New York's Blues performers, most of which are in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Our latest visit here was for the 2022 Lafayette Tap Room Reunion party. Anyone that remembers the Tap Room at the Lafayette Hotel on Washington St should remember how Blues nights packed the house. This reunion was the same. Packed with musicians taking turns on stage and music fans filling the venue. There is always a reasonably priced food menu and a fair priced bar. Shea's is celebrating it's 100 birthday and up until this point has had no elevators. They're now in the process of adding an addition which will include elevators. Since it's an addition it won't take away from the original charm of the building. If somehow you live in the Buffalo area and have never been to Shea's you really need to check it out. The staff are always so helpful and genuinely seem happy to be there. I am not a big theatre person so it's great to have them there to make sure I am in the right place and not committing any theatre mistakes. The concessions here are pretty decently priced. There is a good variety of drinks and snack options. As someone who generally goes to the movies more than the theatre, I was pleasantly surprised with the options. This space is beautiful. It makes you feel like you've stepped back in time but in the best way. The architecture alone is a reason to come check out this spot, but stay for a show and enjoy!
