Waiting for the curtain to rise

There's not much more I can say about Sheas. It's always a treat to be there. I was surprised when a friend of mine, who was born here, mentioned they had never been inside. That was the decision to check out their free film series. Always on a Sunday, the films are always family friendly. Last Sunday was the latest installment from the Jurassic World franchise. I'll admit to not really caring for the film but, the opportunity to spend the afternoon in Sheas is priceless. I looked around and wondered why the house wasn't packed. Check out these chances to take the kids to a free show while experiencing the grandeur in a theater like Sheas that will never be built again. Downtown parking on a Sunday afternoon is pretty easy and all your movie house concessions are available.

Beautiful old theatre in Downtown Buffalo. Came here to see the Tony Musical winner "The OutSiders". We were very lucky to get seats in "The Pit" Mucho leg room. Beautiful old theatre even has loge seating.Great sound system and it was standing room only for this performance. Great cast of singers and dancers. Wonderful production, I could see why it won the Tony Award for best musical.

Really pretty theater! We had seats in the very top row and still had a really good view of the stage, minus the heads of the people in front of us. The acoustics were good and we could still hear everything perfectly. We parked a couple streets over on a side street and didn't have to pay for parking. My one complaint is that it was absolutely boiling. We saw a show in January , so we're dressed in sweaters for the weather and I could have been in shorts and still would have been sweating. I would definitely see another show here, I would just wear layers so I am not so sweaty.

Got rush tickets for my favorite show Beauty and the Beast. Our seats were in the balcony, it's been years since I sat up there so you really get to see the beauty of the theatre. The show was great and our seats were surprisingly good. They played to a full house and got more than one standing ovation. Need for some elevators is crucial. There were people with crutches going on the stairs and people stopping at every landing to rest. It was a great night out and I do recommend going to a show at this venue.

One of the most beautiful theaters around. Went to see The Thorn, so moving and beautiful. If you haven't been there yet please check out this venue- you won't be disappointed

We were at Shea's for opening night of " a Beautiful Noise" about Neil Diamond. The show was excellent. Shea's has the policy to let all guests waiting in a cramped foyer and to open the doors to the theater about 30 minutes before the performance starts. Not this time. Just 10 minutes ahead of the 7:30pm start the doors opened, with no announcement why we had to stand there in the overcrowded foyer. Needless to say the performance started late.

Wow, this theatre is amazing. We attended a wedding that was over-the-top. Totally based on a musical theatre theme. The ceremony was held on the stage and the couple and the wedding party came down the aisles. A very simple but moving service with the exchange of vows and expressions of love that could bring you to joyful tears. The cocktail hour was held in the lobby with speciality drinks and snacks. While we waited for dinner the entire stage was converted to a dining space with a full dance floor and 12 piece band. They rocked the night away. Each of the tables was a theme: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Back to the Future, etc. I was blow away by the entire event. Keep in mind this is a big theatre. I would say it is somewhere between the size of the largest Broadway theatre and Radio City Music Hall. If you get a chance to see a show here you won't be disappointed.

This theatre is Bellissima! The decor and layout are beautiful and give vibes of the place you want to be. If you love everything theatre of course. I came here for a weeknight showing of the musical & Juliet, and it was fantastic! Our seats were at the lower end of the balcony, and it provided a perfect view of the whole musical. The service was extremely friendly and the staff were able to help me find my seat and walked me to them. Such a fantastic date night!

What a beautiful theater!! We went to see Neil Diamond Musical and just enjoyed every bit of the show. The staff were friendly and we only could get last row balcony seats and they were just fine. There is not elevator so if you're in the balcony be prepared to walk up stairs, however, it's not one long staircase. So you can take a break on each of the floors. I definitely plan to see other shows here, great theater.

Can anyone offer a review on sitting in the pit section at Shea's?

Usually that's where the orchestra or music for the show is at..

    Does Shea's permit re-entry?

It is an in the round theatre, there are about 3 rows of seating around the theatre, and it is wonderful. I have a hard time going to the bigger theatres, because I am so used to seeing the actors' faces and expressions and seeing spit fly out of their mouths. That is what makes theatre special, like you are part of the play. As I age, I prefer the smaller, more intimate theatres. Irish Classical has a bar that you can bring in your items during the performance, which is nice. All of the ushers and everyone with Irish Classical are friendly and helpful.  The plays are all from Irish playwrights and they are great. The sets are magical and they transport you into the scene. Definitely check this theatre out. The play Thirst, that took place earlier this season, the playwright was there and I got to meet him and get his autograph. It was quite exciting.

She's a pretty talented singer, but I really did not expect them to snag so many freaking talented performers for this musical. But before I get ahead of myself, let's talk about the theatre. This spot is right next to Sportsman's, but the entrance is on the side of the building (not the Sportsman's alley, but the opposite side of 330 Amherst). It's kind of towards the back, but there's visible signage and they even put out a poster of the musical, so I knew I was in the right place here. The space is everything I love about local theatres. Very intimate, only about 75 or so sears in house. (It's no wonder that a good show will sell out fast here.) The stage is fairly small too. Seating is a bit more stadium-style with an open aisle that the actors can use. The seats in the back reached a little too far back for my liking, and it was tough to see when the actors were lying down on the stage, but otherwise everyone was pretty visible. You can order a drink before sitting down for the show - which is always a good bonus!! My only real gripe was, when I purchased my tickets they had it under "General Admission" and so I assumed we'd be able to sit anywhere we like - and when we arrived there was assigned seating. I don't know if it was something with the ticket service they use, but I was really hoping to sit up front and would have picked seats there if I had been prompted to before buying them. On to the show - nothing short of fantastic. Calling it "good" would be insulting, it was that incredible of a show. Every actor fit the role so well, sang incredibly, sang their hearts out. You could tell there was passion in the work. I wish they did a cast recording, or I could see a tape of them performing. I want to come back and see more ART shows because of how amazing of a job they did with this production! ART is definitely a fantastic 'hidden' Black Rock gem. I'm going to keep my eye on this place. Very eager to return!

As one actor put it, "The opposite of beauty is not ugliness, it is loneliness." Even though I showed up alone, I never felt lonely. The cast and crew were amazing!! Every character in this play could and probably does exist in our real world. Sarcasm exists. Raunchiness exists. Morality exists. Choices exist. Hopefulness exists. Differences exist. These are all for the taking during a writer's creative process. After all, written works are the opinion of the artist. During this play, my mind was kept open. My take was to put myself not only in the role of the writer, but also the roles of the actors. The work, energy, effort and expression are gifts to the spectator. A gift of learning the reason and purpose of the creative "acts", pardon the pun. Bravo to the cast and crew. Side Note: ART is now located at 44 17th Street in an old factory. Really cool if you allow yourself to enjoy the history and reuse of this landmark. Shows are May 10-26, 2018 at 8pm. Should get there early for a drink (beer, wine, water) and parking. Hopefully, rum and coke next season. People out there, please support your local theater and this production. Peace.
