I got this email basically warning me that all gift card transactions will incur a $3 fee. Is this fair? Absolutely not. How gross. Aside from this, I can't really say my experiences there recently have been great; the bar overcharges for drinks and the bartenders automatically set the card reader to a 20% tip on your beverages. I'm not kidding. They rush you to pay for your drinks if you're using credit so as to distract you from the automatic tip setting. If you don't catch it and change it, you're screwed. I don't mind tipping, I just don't like a place using scummy practices like this and essentially forcing you into tipping. Also...notice the lack of diversity in their show lineups: All cover bands. That's fine but like...there used to be variety, there used to be so much more. Anyway, I'm leaving this review as a life-long NT resident who misses the old Riv. It was truly magic.

It's a sleek model looking building. The theater itself has 250 comfortable seats and wide aisles. The slope is perfect for views from any seat. The sound seemed very good. This was followed by an open blues jam session where other local blues musicians are welcome to join in. Reserved seating is recommended with other tables available depending on the crowd. We come to listen to the best of the best of Western New York's Blues performers, most of which are in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Our latest visit here was for the 2022 Lafayette Tap Room Reunion party. Anyone that remembers the Tap Room at the Lafayette Hotel on Washington St should remember how Blues nights packed the house. This reunion was the same. Packed with musicians taking turns on stage and music fans filling the venue. There is always a reasonably priced food menu and a fair priced bar. We had season tickets for the past several years. However, since the Pandemic everything seems to…read morehave fallen apart. The plays used to be full length and entertaining but the past two seasons have been like the whole organization is circling the drain. Everything from super short performances to one woman shows to bad and boring subject matter. In addition, now they have lost their lease with Damien Collage, had a failed attempt at using taxpayer money to move to another location in Amherst and are now moving to downtown Buffalo with no free parking and a risk of personal safety. We feel this last season was worth less than 50% of what they charged us. For all these reasons we are not renewing our season tickets. Based on the half empty seats it's obvious that other season ticket holders also don't feel it's worth it anymore.

From what we saw the show was great, the illusions were incredible and unlike cases where the tricks are obvious, there were some amazing illusions that had us questioning how that was possible. Two magicians performed and it was very cool to watch. My husband was even able to participate before we left. The one downside I would note is that this is a child friendly show, which isn't a problem, except you may be put at a table with young children. When sat we were put next to each other causing a party of five to be across from us, they sat the young children at the end of the table, so they could see understandably, but they sat parents down at the opposite end. The family was very respectful, but if you are not a children person, this may not be the environment for you. Over all great show! I wish I wasn't exhausted and could have stayed for the whole thing!

The presentation was a bit lengthy, but very nice. Each of the seven shows in the subscriber series was introduced. Guest artists performed songs from two musicals in the subscription: "Sound of Music" and "The Great Gatsby". There are three additional shows which are not part of the subscription, but to which subscribers can purchase tickets ahead of the general public. The presentation lasted about an hour.

There was a bit of distant thunder so we, and many others packed up their chairs and picnic baskets before the rain. I did not know this play so I read the synopsis ahead of time. There are a lot of characters and in this performance, some actors seemed to be playing more than one part. I think this was helpful to have read the synopsis first. The play is performed with modern touches: a telephone and several rock 'n' roll songs sung. It's a lovely way to spend an evening, even though we left after the first claps of thunder.
