We've been here twice as I celebrated my birthday here and decided to celebrate my mothers a month later. We had the same sushi chef both times and he recognized us, haha. This omakase experience is very comparable to Hadaka in Asbury Park. There is a wide variety of fish but my favorite were the tuna & salmon belly. It is important to note that this establishment is kosher which means there won't be any shellfish. If you are expecting Uni or Crab, find another place, haha. The sushi was fresh and buttery smooth. You're in an hour within an hour. Plan to arrive early in order to find street parking especially in the summer time. The restaurant has a very modern feeling and they rely heavily on natural lighting as the actual lighting in the restaurant is very dim. I wish it was slightly brighter that way I can see my meal better. The sushi was solid, but the vibe in the restaurant was...off. You could kind of feel the tension between the sushi chefs and the servers. Subtle exchanges and energy that hinted at some behind-the-scenes friction. It didn't ruin the meal, but it was noticeable and affected the atmosphere. read more

Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I spent over a full month trying to book a small wedding dinner for only 20 guests. I followed up multiple times and was repeatedly told that I would receive an email with the credit card authorization to finalize and close the event. That email never came. I followed up again and was told the same thing that it would be sent and once again, nothing happened. This cycle repeated itself with no resolution. The lack of professionalism, follow-through, and basic communication was shocking, especially for something as important as a wedding. This entire process was a complete waste of time. The ambiance and location of Salt is prime. I didn't love that the servers were a bit over tending to the table while reviewing options. Had 4 different servers come up to the table asking the same question. The sashimi apps were good! The steak was ok. My filet was a bit tough and the skirt steak seemed very heavily salted. I'm usually very critical when it comes to restaurants, but Salt Steakhouse is, hands down, the best kosher steakhouse between NJ and NY. What I love most is that you can come here with friends and enjoy a fully satisfying, 5-star meal without ordering a steak or even paying triple digits. The appetizers are generous and delicious, and mains like the chicken piccata, Korean BBQ flatbread, and Salt Signature Burger are fantastic and filling. The fish is beautifully fresh, imported daily, and the special rolls burst with flavor. True culinary expertise. Always a great time. First visit to Salt last night... it was a wonderful experience, highly recommend this steakhouse. We were greeted with a warm welcome and promptly directed to our table for 2. The seats were very comfortable and the table was a good size (most 2-top tables barely have enough room for a plate and beverage). Amanda (1 of our 2 servers) greeted us in less than 30 seconds... as it was our first visit she took time to explain the menu options to us. Cocktails were delivered by a 3rd staff member... deliciously made, good presentation. For our meal, Greg took our order... he explained the variety of steaks... we started our experience with bread and olive oil (fresh, warm, tasty bread)... our meal included the beet salad and both soups (honey butternut squash and the mushroom soup... both were fantastic!) We shared the cowboy steak (cooked to perfection) and roasted veggies on the side. A wonderful meal with great customer service. We will be back... My only recommendation would be for the lights to be dimmed a bit more for evening dinning. read more

Came here on a busy holiday weekend and the food did not disappoint, although the service was definitely lacking. All of the appetizers were fantastic. Karaage (fried chicken) was my favorite, along with the lamb riblets and the tacqitos. I really liked the decor and the ambiance of the restaurant. However, even with many servers, the drinks and mains were delayed. The issue appeared to be in the lack of servers, and many people seemed to be looking around for their servers. Overall, all of the appetizers were great and the sushi was excellent. Don't expect any spicy mayo though. When the steaks arrived, one was underdone (despite a very detailed description in the menu). Steaks didn't come with appetizers, and they also charged us $5 for each bearnaise sauce. Also, the burger I got was reputable, but dense and dry, and smaller than the bun it came in. No sauces other than a bacon jam, and the way it came with lettuce tomato and raw onion on the side reminded me of a burger at a cheap deli rather than a $45 burger. Overall, I would definitely go again, but I would want to make sure it's not at a peak hour. Cost was $240 per person, but two people didn't have mains and one was sent back, so not sure of the point of comparison. read more

Couldn't wait to try this place. The interior decor is super pretty and done very nicely. Even the art on the wall is beautiful. The hosts were very kind. We started off with 2 lychee martinis which were done nicely, they come with elderflower mixed in, it's good but it over powered the lychee a bit. We started with the beef carpaccio, which was one of the best I have had around. They give you a very generous amount, it is so very tender and full of flavor but not overly seasoned with anything. The presentation was very nice as well, loved it. We then got the sea bass dumplings which were very tasty and cooked perfect. We also got the pastrami flatbread. The dough was just perfection. The pastrami is cooked great and you also get a generous amount. If you like pastrami this is a must try. Otherwise for me it's salty. But still this was delicious. For our main dish we shared a cowboy steak with truffle and sides of fries and mushrooms. This was displayed wonderfully, very nicely cooked and we enjoyed it greatly. The only thing I'd say is that the truffle wasn't as strong as I'd like it to be. For dessert we had the donuts which are sooooo yummy and soft. We also had the berry pavolova which was very good & plentiful. I would have liked less of the jam around it. This place is pricey but you do get what you pay for. Wait staff slow down a bit, but otherwise we were happy with the experience and will return for more. (I'm sure every restaurant is short staffed as well). read more

Salt is a beautiful restauraunt! I was excited for something new, with good quality meats. We started off with the wagyu beef pastrami bread.It was really flavorful with a sweet and salty twist. Then we had the duck and waffles. This dish was less impressive as the duck was overcooked and the sauce on the waffle got soggy quickly (order the sauce on the side). The flavors were delicious though. We also had the 16 oz steak which was cooked perfectly. Moreover, the drinks were also excellent! Our service was great, refilled water, change plates often, the waiter knew the menu perfectly. The rib eye was also good! We will be coming back to try other dishes. read more

Sorry... Giving the benefit of the doubt here. Could be 5 stars, could be 3 stars and here is why... Salt only recently opened. Two soups, one was cold (Mushroom) and the other hot (Corn). The Appy of Chicken was good and all 4 shared the one portion. After that, more trouble. Dinners came out one at a time and probably 15 minutes between the 1st and the 4th. A big no no for this level and kind of dining in concert with price. Mains were Veal Chop, Sea Bass, Salmon and Cornished Hen. The food was anywhere between fair and good. I say this place has an upscale look, a nice bar, good service. If they can step up the food a tad and serve it all as a family, good to go. Loved the Baron Herzog Wine. The chef ordered $350 dollars worth of food (about 400 lbs of product) from Instacart and gave me less than a 10 dollar tip. This is a disgrace to the hospitality industry where people work for tips. Pros: - Nice ambiance - Our server was attentive and kind Cons: - We were seated in the middle aisle, where the divider has open spaces, so you can see/hear the other couples conversation the whole time. *And if I can see and hear them, they are breathing too close to my food for comfort, during an ongoing pandemic. - The aisle table we sat at was small. Could barely fit all our ordered food on it. - Once seated, we were told they didn't have half of the steak items (no waygu, no flat iron, no tomahawk, and something else). The reason I booked this place was for steaks....that I couldn't even try. - Filet temp was cooked properly, but it was tough and had some grizzle! Should not even need a steak knife for a proper filet. Not worthy $60. - Mashed potatoes had the texture of instant, and too much garlic. - Both our forks were badly bent. Come on, that's just lazy quality control. This place was not worth the prices they charge. I would rather spend the money at a Fogo de Chao to get better quality meats / food. This is the newest, hottest and most talked about restaurant on the shore. The only reservation slots available are at 5PM (when they open) or 5:45 for the next 2 months, with the exception of an occasional 10PM sitting. So I got a 5:45 reservation for a date with my wife to celebrate our 28th Wedding Anniversary. This may be lengthy, so bear with me.. The place is located the corner of Morris Ave and pier village. The ambiance is very upscale and when you walk in, you are instantly greeted by two hostesses at the front door. As you walk in you are greeted with the bar area, where you can sit for a drink and eat, or move further in and sit to eat. Our reservation was for a seated meal and were promptly taken to our table. We were quickly greeted by our waiter and presented with menus. I immediately noticed however that my cup was dirty. This was an initial red flag for me, as expectations for this place were of a 5 star restaurant and attention to detail is critical. First about the food itself. The Chicken Karaage was very good and something you don't find elsewhere. The wagyu pastrami was really good, only it was supposed to be hot and came out room temperature. I ordered the cowboy steak, which is aged and sounded amazing. I've had cowboy steaks that are aged before.. but it came out sliced off the bone, bone still on the plate and sliced into pieces. Kind of like when your mother cut your food for you.. Now it also tasted funky, chewy and warm, not hot. Not a good way to serve the steak. I seriously couldn't finish it. If I ate anymore of it I would have had to go expel it. In its place they brought me their Spinalis steak, which was absolutely Amazing in flavor, texture and presentation and perfectly cooked! My wife got the rack of lamb which was very good. Their cocktails were very tasty. However, one of their cocktails called the Real Deal, which has Lemon Arak in it, you could barely taste the Arak and it tasted mostly like water. I was going to go into great detail of our experience, but would sum it up as follows; Their communication needs a lot of work, as there were a number of misunderstandings that could have been avoided. Ie, they brought out tuna tartar when we ordered chicken Karaage that the waiter recommended, the manager asked about my steak and offered to change it and Comp'd the original, even though I stated he didn't need to change it, Then the mater'd came by later to check on us and said she would comp the steak.. which were weren't expecting and that she would give us a round of comp'd drinks too. We thought, hey awesome.. turned out, she was referring to the original steak. So the mater'd stated she has the authority to comp the steak, but the chef suggested they comp the pastrami that came out cold. Simple miscommunications that could've been avoided and made for a better experience. That being said, they did make an effort to right their wrongs at just about every step and do try very hard to please. Seems like they still need to polish their service a bit and get their communication straightened out. Most of the food was really good. I gave them 4 stars for their ambience, their efforts, the service and the food was all very good, but due to the price, it should be fully polished and 5 star. Felt more like a soft opening, only it isn't. If they polish up those areas and communicate clearly by setting expectations and deliver promptly, they would be 5 stars. Salt Steakhouse is a 5 Star fine dining establishment serving the best Glatt Kosher selections of steaks. Located in beautiful pier village in Long Branch NJ. Every single dish that came to our table was absolutely delicious. I recommend the lamb riblets as an appetizer. They have a variety of steaks to choose from.
