The food is always great when I come here, this my third time. the service is always terrible. Seems like it gets worst everytime. They move really slow. The bartender is bad because it takes forever for drinks to come to the table! tonight it took me over an hour to get a drink when I was sitting at table 1 and my food never even came out. It took over two hours before they took my food order' She came with the bill. Then I learned that she was the manager and she tried to argue with me about not paying for a drink that took Too long to come out! I had a party of four. Which was originally a party of two and then two more joined us, but the two that joined us got their food and drinks before we did! The table to the right of us got their food and drinks before we did! This is ridiculous. They planned a fight night party today and didn't staff enough people to handle the business they received! I was forced to pay for a drink that took over an hour to come to my table and then was told I was giving my food for free even though I had to wait over an hour for service and over 2 to receive it! The manager likes to argue apparently and doesn't care about customer service and customer experience! And i for one used to work at a restaurant and have over 13 years of knowledge! To be honest, I have been trying to have this culinary experience for months. I won a gift card at an event in the spring and was so excited to try them out. They are located in the Radisson hotel. Please note that they are closed on Sundays and some holidays. So, today was the day! I had lunch on Veterans Day. I was excited they were open. First, The Good: 1) I was greeted by Andi/Sandy as soon as I walked in although she was helping other patrons at another table. She was holding down the restaurant all by herself with five parties. Bravo beautiful! 2) [[HIGHLIGHT]]SALT + KO has tons of seating options from cozy fireside chairs, couches, high top and regular tables and the bar. They also have a private room. The restaurant also has a DJ stand and dance area. They have a schedule of nightly events Monday - Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My lunch selection was their Shrimp Po' Boy and their 4 Cheese Mac & Cheese. They were both delicious. I had enough of the Truffle Mac to take home for later. Now, The Bad: 1) [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was 63 degrees in the restaurant. The food is flavorful and cooked well, the service was great. The owner is very personable and friendly, and we felt very taken care of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space feels a little large, but it is modern and clean, and has some really cute little loungey areas; one seating area with a couch is near a fireplace, and it's really cute over there. The bar is lit nicely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For drinks, we had the owner's recommendation, which is called "bath water." Inspired by Salt Burn, this cocktail was made with a smoky mezcal and coconut water, rimmed with coconut shavings. It was smoky and sweet and tasty. I also had a basic vodka soda, and it was a nice pour. I do wish they had a selection of signature drinks, but if you know what you like, they've got you covered. For food, I had the lamb chops and green beans, and my friend ordered the salmon, green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned very nicely and cooked well; the zip sauce was really yummy on the lambies. Both of us really enjoyed the green beans which come with carmelized onions on top, and were a standout side, where at many restaurants I feel like they're either under or over-cooked and lack any flavor. Mashed potatoes were good. I was excited to hear that they'll be trying more specials coming up soon; I'd love to see what they come up with because their catering is so good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think this is an ideal place for lunch right now; if I worked in Southfield, I'd be here more often, as there aren't too many places like it. First, let me make this very clear: a reservation at Salt and Ko is NOT NECESSARY. The restaurant was completely EMPTY when we arrived on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, I didn't know that at the time I made the reservation. They charged my credit card $25 to "hold" the reservation. The website clearly states this fee will be refunded at the time of service (aka taken off your bill). That did NOT happen. Our server was kind and professional, and we did enjoy a few cocktails and appetizers. They were good enough, but nothing particularly special or memorable. When the bill came, I mentioned the $25 reservation fee we had already paid online. I was then informed it would not be taken off the bill, but instead refunded back to my card. That also did NOT happen. Sixteen days later, still no refund -- and to make matters worse, I received another email saying my reservation had been saved. At that point, I had to call my credit card company, cancel my card, and dispute the $25 charge. A complete waste of time and energy over something that should have been simple and automatic. First experience here and will be my last. My cousin reserved a table in their private dining room for 20 people. We were there for five hours! First it took like 45 minutes just for them to bring us a menu. It took so many hours to get our food and then when we got it, it was warm and mediocre at best. The cheese grits had little to no cheese in it, no seasoning and the creole sauce that they put on top of the grits was a mess! Tasted like cocktail sauce with a little bit of creole seasoning. What Creole sauce do you know is tomato based and looks more like A spaghetti sauce? Imagine seeing it on top of some grits, with some flavorless, dry seafood. The waitresses took hours to attend to us , when we got there is was empty so I don't understand why they didn't spring into action to fix things/ get things together before we showed up or during, Unacceptable. Lack of communication from staff/manager, after our party finally showing concern from waiting for hrs we were finally, told us they ran out of certain food items.... So you mean to tell me y'all didn't know you had a reservation booked for 20 people? Get it together. Then another hour and a half went past and we asked again then they blamed it on being short-staffed, but they were helping people in the main area that got here way after us, word of advice If you know you have a big party reserved, prepare a AHEAD OF TIME .
