Without a doubt they are the class of the city, with a variety of dances that spanning a multitude of genres ranging from hip hop to swing to jazz. No local area dance troupe compares to Zapp, as they have a unique distinction of being in a class to themselves. Aside from performing locally in Eugene, they're also world famous touring cities across the United States and Europe. I've had the pleasure of attending a few of their shows in Eugene and came away impressed practically every time. The WOW factor is almost immediate and they continue to inspire audiences everywhere. Their prices are affordable, be it for their ongoing beginning or intermediate group class series, or for their private lessons where you can get that extra attention and work on technique. My husband and I have enjoyed both and really made a lot of progress. We learned some routines in the private lessons that we do at social dances. On a recent trip to a resort, we received many compliments about our skills on the dance floor, which really made us chuckle. He'd initially been so resistant about dancing, thinking he could never learn, but Laura had a way of making him feel at ease with her humor, and with strategic coaching and an ability to get us through trouble areas, my husband can now swing with the best of them. It's also nice that you don't have to be part of a couple to take classes. I've taken them alone as well with my husband because I can never dance enough, and he does need a break every now and then to do guy stuff.. Aine, the owner and our instructor for this first class, is great. She is super friendly, welcoming, provides great instruction and simple steps to learn. Aine is also amazingly talented, making all the moves look so fluid and easy, which is inspiring to see as I flailed around the pole! I consider myself fit, working out 5-6 days a week, but that doesn't prepare you for pole. It is a whole new test of strength, flexibility and coordination (and I'm pretty lacking in the last two of that list). I had never been to Eugene and was overwhelmed. When I was 9 years old a teacher read the Raven to…read moremy class and I was addicted to poetry like a fiend. As a teenager I ended up living with a person going to ballet school. I became a huge fan of dance and ballet. When I stumbled on this I just had to try to see it. Another friend felt the same but we both have mobility issues so going to new places is daunting since a lot of venues are supposed to offer ADA in all price points but usually it is marked higher or what the have listed is not actually ADA. It's A LOT to deal with every time you want to go anywhere to anything.. I reached out to the venue and they referred me to the ballet company. I thought, ugh... they can't help but ok... But they did and fast. Talk about making us feel welcome and seen. And WHAT A PERFORMANCE! Ballet Fantastique set ballet pieces to Steampunk styled music performed with cello, piano, and an accordion. A spoken word actor recited parts from five different Edgar Allen Poe pieces (some would argue his best): Masque of the Red Death (1842), The Raven (1845), Fall of the House of Usher (1839),Annabel Lee (1849) and Cask of Amontillado (1846). There were touches of cirque with an aerialist and stilt walker. The sets, lighting, and aesthetic were incredible. This ballet was a treasure trove. They had some gorgeous masks for sale at amazing prices and I could not resist getting a gorgeous production poster signed by the whole cast for $5. After attending this I definitely plan to make it a point to attend another performance of theirs.

Some of the instructors are great! However, some just "call it in", repeating the script that they…read morelearned to get their certification. They have class times listed w/out instructors available. Eugene has been short staffed for 3 months now - that's got to say something. There is no personalization between some instructors & clients ie injury restrictions or name exchanges. (Prior management had instructors exchanging that info on a regular basis.). If you sign up on the Wait List to get into a class, they can notify you in less than 12 hrs that you got in, however if your personal schedule has changed & you no longer are available they will charge you $10 to drop the class. I am dropping my membership & would not recommend this club to anyone.
