I was yelping via blackberry this weekend looking for a place to clean up my eyebrows a bit. I found this place, and I asked Monnie if she could just clean up my eyebrows, and she automatically squeezed me in through her long list of clients. She asked me if I was introduced by anyone to her, I said no, I found her through yelp. She said she usually doesn't take walk ins, but since its only plucking my eyebrows, it was fine. Let me just say this, she did an AMAZING job. I loved it! For $10, my eyebrows looked a lot cleaner than before! More evenly shaped. Next time, I am going to try perming my eyelashes, that should be a lot more convenient for me! read more

I've been going to Gary for over 15 years and he's has the best cutting technique in the business. I've tried many different hair dressers and I always come back to Gary. He never disappoints and always gets the style that I want. I 10/10 recommend Gary. He's the best hair stylist in the game! read more

I asked to bleach 9-10 for my hair, so I can use purple shampoo at home. This is how it ends!!!!!! From the middle of my hair to the top are where I asked to bleach. The part on my hair that were most blue tone, actually were bleached three times and dyed purple color in December, 2016, that is why they looked more blue-purple tone after shampoo. During the bleaching, he always said that if bleaching is not enough, you will have green hair, so you need bleach twice. I felt the bleaching was not enough after two times. Then I asked couple times that do I need to bleach more? Because it was looked not 9-10 at all. And he begun to talk. "You only need bleach this much, you can wash out the yellow tone after the purple shampoo two times." That's funny!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping he is right because I trusted him! After I washed shampoo, I found that too much hair on the back of my head is still yellow!! Pure yellow! Shit yellow!!!!! And my of the hair roots are black!! Wtf!! What a crab! Now the situation is my left top head is green-blue, left head is green-yellow, the inside part from middle to bottom that near my scalp and bottom part near my neck are shit dark yellow and black mixing! So now what!?!?! Never go to destroy your hair! This guy called J.V. read more

Been coming here for many years now, since early childhood actually, without a doubt Gary is the best! An absolute master at his craft, not only is he an expert in hair, cutting, and styling but his care for how you look will have you feeling and looking your best ! read more

Saloon is owned by the Chung brothers and Gary has been my Stylist for over 2 yrs now. Even though I moved from L.A., I come back for haircuts whenever I'm in town. Every time I come here, I try to convince Gary to open a shop in the Bay Area. Gary is very passionate and diligent about crafting the art of your hair. He really listens to what you want and makes an effort to understand each client's style. If you have a picture that helps. I totally trust him. The newest hair wash guy is also VERY good, the haircut comes with this hair wash massage and it was the best one I've ever had. Saloon also offers facials and sells hair products. Appointments are recommended. Parking is plentiful and free and located in the YES Plaza. read more

Saloon for hair is a hair salon that also offers facials. I have not had a haircut yet but have had the facials. The facials are done by Monnie, a high energy Chinese woman. She is a master at cleaning out the pores. The service is reasonably priced and if you pre-pay for 10 facials the price per facial are even better. Allow some time because it can take over an hour, but it's worth it. The facial includes: cleansing, masks, threading, eyebrow shaping/cleaning and consultation. Give her a call and she will try and squeeze you in. read more

i come here for hair cut and facial. Monnie for facial. I heard about her from my friend. I am very picky when it comes to facial. i have been to MANY places in LA, and she is really good and reasonable. I got the Ensyme Whitening Treatment. *i uploaded the menu* She did a GREAT job on my face. Deeply cleaned my pores, then get rid of the dead skin. My face was a lot brighter afterward. I will recommend you to get the package(10 times), so its $55 each. Good deal. She will also clean your eyebrows. You will not regret it gal...... Gary for haircut. Gary has a good sense of styling. I recommend him to you all gals. He does not mess up your hair or give you some crapy layer. I had a hair dresser before that put his own creativity on me. of course..HE IS OUT. Even tho the drive is far, but i will only go to someone i trust for my hair. read more

Saloon For Hair - Hair Salons Near Me - Diamond Bar, California

I come here after reading raving reviews for Monnie's facials. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed at all. Her facials are no more than average, and not too through. Pricing was good, but I highly recommend driving to Renee Tseng (Skin Resolutions) - her facials are uncomparably better. I also tried Leo for a haircut. I agree with the others on Leo as a stylist, as I ended up with a haircut way different than what I asked for. It was a decent cut (not great)... from the other reviews, I would recommend trying Gary instead. read more

Hair cut for mens is in the $35 range. My stylist says they do hair for fashion shows and the like. I do admit that the cutting is more modern but it's hard for an average guy like me to upkeep and put in the time to make it look great each day. I'd rather pay a little more to go to J's Hair Salon (less crowded, and rushed too)! read more

This review is for Monnie's facials. I have been going to Monnie for facials since 2006. (Wow I just realized how long ago that is) I have always jumped from places to places until I found Monnie. Her prices are very reasonable and her facials are about an hour and a half. I get compliments about my skin all the time and I know part of that reason is her. I've referred several of my friends to her and they all love her. She clears away your dead skin cells...gives you a wonderful relaxing face massage. And to top that she also threads your facial hair and brows. I don't trust anyone but her with my brows. Then she proceeds to extract pimples and puts on a whitening mask. The whole process is super relaxing. I wow HIGHLY recommend trying her out...oh and she doesn't push products on you like some other places, but she'll suggest her products if you ask her about them. read more

Love Gary! He cuts my hair, and he's good at what he does. The store is clean and the service is excellent. I'm always happy after I leave this place. I highly recommend it if you have Asian hair and want a professional and knowledgable hairdresser. It's $45 for a haircut and I leave a $10 tip. It's worth it. read more

This review is specifically for Leo. From 2000 to about 2005, Leo was the only person who cut my hair. He was absolutely awesome then. At that time, he wasn't at Saloon for Hair. I was a loyal client who followed him everywhere. Even after I moved to the bay area, I still went to him for haircuts. If this review were written then, he would have gotten 5 stars. Something happened since he opened up Saloon for Hair, it's like he lost his magic. The cuts there were inconsistent, you never know if it'll be a hit or a miss. The very last time I went to him for a haircut(August 2008), it was a big disaster. I asked for a layered bob, he gave me a mullet! A mullet!!!! My hair was almost like a grown out boys cut with a a few strands in the back that hung close to my shoulders. My bangs were so short I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't wear a headband or pin my bangs up because at 1 to 2 cm long, it would spike up. He told me to comb some of the longer hair from the top of my head to the front. I was so desperate, I tried it, it didn't work. I find it funny now but it wasn't funny then. Every time I saw myself in the mirror, I got upset. I ended up wearing a hat for a month then wore head bands for another month before my hair was long enough to do anything about it. The noble thing to do was to apologize and admit that he screwed up. he said he had to cut it like that because I had too much hair on top and too little hair on the bottom and the side. (By the way, I have a layer bob now, it seems like the current stylist I go to had no problem w/ me having too much hair on the top and too little hair on the bottom and the side. In fact, she doesn't think i have that issue.) When I left Saloon for hair, he recommended that I should stick to long layered hair. A few days later, I called him and told him how miserable I was and asked him for a refund. He said he couldn't refund me because he didn't know how. (How can he not know how?) He said the best he could do was give me a free haircut next time. Hmm... grow out my hair out so that he can turn it back to a mullet?!!! I think not. So why a 2 stars? If it was based on my last experience it would be a 0 star. Since I would have given him a 5 star once a upon a time and a 0 star now, the average is a 2.5. I thought I would take off another .5 for not admitting that he screwed up. read more

i came here because a friend raved about gary and i didn't want to drive to costa mesa anymore to get my hair did anymore. so i tried it out. geebus gary is great! he made sure that i got what i wanted (which was to cut all the dead parts but keep a good length since my hair is long). he also gave me tips on how to keep it healthy and stuff which wanted me to buy some new product as well. also, the guy washing my hair was great too. some people just want to get it over with quick but he made sure water didn't get in my ears (which happens often) and dried any area of my head that got wet (which not all people do). read more

i would give no stars if i could. my experience was with the person who gives facials, Monnie. she does bad business and is highly unprofessional. i called her wanting to thread my face. i found her on yelp and thought i'd call to see if she does the threading technique like the old Indian tradition. she should have just said that's not her area, becuz it certainly was not. i didn't get a facial from her but i'm writing this negative blog because she should never have agreed to thread my face when she doesn't really know the art of threading. she had the audacity to charge me 20 dollars for "full face threading" that literally took 1 minute. what a rip off !! she's is really shady for doing that. the charge was completely absurd. when i asked her why it took so fast she claimed it was becuz my skin was irritated so she didn't want to thread anymore, the truth was she has another client for whom she was giving a facial waiting right next to me in the same room. she rushed me in, didn't so anything, and charged my 1/4 a facial. it's really shameless how unprofessional she is. and sheisty too. i DO NOT recommend anyone visit her for the shear fact that she is a unskilled and unworthy of being in a salon. read more

Love this place. I come here for facials and haircuts. Monnie is very good. She does the best facials. She makes sures that she cleans the pores and blemishes without scarring your face. She KNOWS what she's doing. Leo's been my hairstylist for at least 5 years. He's great. He LISTENS to what you want and then works his magic. The best. I recently got bangs and all i've got were compliments :) read more

I needed a haircut and found this place on yelp. Called at 3:30. Got a same day appointment with Gary for 5:15. Overall it was a great experience. I chopped my hair off so I could donate it and Gary gave me the cutest bob! I was a little skeptical but he kept reasurring me and it turned out really great - I've gotten nothing but compliments. He also gave great advice on how to style it and make it come out the way he did it. The guy that washes your hair is really good too, I even got a mini head/neck massage during the process. :P All in all, for 40 bucks I couldn't be happier. I'll reserve the fifth star for consistent service when I go back. Thanks yelpers! read more

I went here to get my eyebrows done for $10. It was my first time getting them done by a professional, I screwed up my own eyebrows by doing them myself before. but the lady over there fixed my eyebrows and made them look really good. she can speak cantonese (and i think also mandarin?) and she's really nice and sweet ^_^ it didn't hurt much either because she was really quick with plucking them. you should also call to make an appointment, they have a lot of customers. read more

Bad experience with Monnie. I have been going to her for facials from time to time since 2013 after buying the package. Everything I went there she tried to sell me different things...perming eye lashes, overpriced facial serum, Foreo facial brush etc.. If I showed no interest she would try even harder, forcing me by telling me how bad my skin is and how it is lack of care because I am not using her product and not coming to her often enough. I tried my best to use up the package because I paid for it but every time it was a torture listening to her bragging about her products. I ended up going the very last time this week thinking that I can finally finish up the package. During the treatment she again trying to force me to buy the next package. She claimed that if I don't buy the next package I would have to pay for this last time treatment because the original package expired a month ago. ( she did not clarify this was a 2 year package to begin with.) I ended up having an argument with her as I refused to pay and she talked back saying very inappropriate comments about how I "calculate to pennies" and "she has 500 customers, no one can take so long to finish a package" etc. All in all, I would not recommend her for facials to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more

Monnie's facial is below average. Although she is a nice lady but she rush the facial session through like production line and not thorough enough. I came in for regular cleaning and she did whitening mask on me and ask for $65 instead of $45. read more

After my first haircut with Gary I was sure that I had found a stylist I can visit regularly. But the second visit was not so exciting. When Gary asked me what kind of cut I wanted I told him I really needed a trim. Immediately he blew out a loud gasp and exclaimed, "that's it?! so boring.." I couldn't tell from his faint voice if he meant that giving me a trim would be boring for him or that I wasn't adventurous enough for anything more than a trim. Interested in what ideas he might have, I asked for suggestions. I was returned with comments about what was wrong with my hair and how he couldn't do anything but trim it or chop it all off. I guess I should have left at this point but he complained about my DIY trimming of my bangs during my first visit so I just accepted that he was just not an encouraging person. Unfortunately, I stayed for the cut and ended up with a style that is opposite of what I asked for. At a glance, my hair looks good once I labor with my hair tools/products. And it's not a horrible cut considering I like the bangs. But, I can tell it doesn't flow as nicely as it did before and there are some random choppy pieces. Interesting, since my previous cut was from him. My search for an affordable, friendly, skilled hairstylist continues. Haircut = $40 read more

I've been here twice for haircut and coloring. The price is too expensive for the quality so I haven't been back. I also tried Monnie facial (in the back of the salon) for about 2 packages (20 times total). Each package was $550. Monnie was good and she used all expensive products. I would come back but I was too sensitive so she wasn't able to extract my acne stuff out. I would come back but I found someone else closer and a little better. But Monnie's facials were worth it and relaxing. Try her if you're in the neighborhood! read more

This Chris W. does not know what she's talking about. Why would a person go to a Chinese salon for an Indian facial threading? If she's in Los Angeles County, you would think she would have the intelligience of driving to Little India to get her authentic "indian" facial threading. I love Monnie. For over 10 years, my mom, sisters and I commute from San Diego County to Los Angeles County just to get European facials from Monnie. It includes EVERYTHING from extraction, facial threading, eye brow shaping and mask. She's honest on what she thinks your skin is suitable for and never sells you products you don't need. She's an honest business owner and does a great job at facial. I've recently moved up to Seattle and I am having my girlfriend buy me products from Monnie's shop. Her products are so good that I rather have my gf bring up skincare products to the Pacific Northwest. I am so offended this facial threading Nazi is trying to scar my favorite esthetician. I miss going to Monnnie so much and seeing the poor review really offended me. I'd give 10 STARS to Monnie if they have that. I'm behind Monnie 100% in customer service!!! YEAH Monnie!!! read more
