For instance, advised that my daughter was shy when the kid hesitated to order one day, the barista brightened up even more and put the girl at ease. Whether their coffee is good or not is completely subjective. I think it's good overall, but it might not be my first choice in town. But it's made with care, and as mentioned, roasted in house. Its popularity speaks to its quality. They also have a very good selection of pastries and other goodies to accompany your coffee, including a Mobile institution--cheesecake from a local company called Cotton Blues. The only gripe I have about Carpe Diem is their seating setup. There simply isn't enough of it. That said, I don't know how they could use the space more efficiently, since the cafe is small as it is. I prefer more private seating, which in other coffee houses I've been to has been accomplished with the judicious use of plants or high-backed chairs. The biggest component of the crowded seating is due to students from Springhill College across the street. Today, for instance, my husband and I were unable to find any seating at all. Even on the days when we can find seating, being entirely surrounded by people working quietly on their laptops feels awkward and lends a library-like feel to the atmosphere. It feels rude to have a conversation at a regular level. I feel like I'm intruding. I don't know how a coffee shop should handle this conundrum, as it's really not good business practice to limit customers' time while there, or to turn away clientele, even in an attempt to please all of their customers. There is already a back room which seems to be an unofficial space dedicated to students, but the overflow still takes up much of the cafe. That said, I enjoy Carpe Diem and going there is a nice little treat. I would definitely recommend it.

My go-to coffee spot for Mobile. A great little spot with excellent coffee priced affordable. The…read moreservice is always good but expect a line most of the time. Very warm feeling with indoor and outdoor seating. The pastries and sandwiches make this a good place for breakfast or lunch also.

So it was doubly pleasing to be able to introduce her to this pleasing restaurant with its eclectic cuisine. The breakfast menu is what usually draws my attention. Served anytime, not just normal breakfast hours, a customer can choose between crumpets, omelettes, french toast, or just the usual bacon and eggs. I usually order one of their crumpets, but today, chose their Loaded Omelette with cheese grits. More like a purée, the grits were superb, creamy and buttery. My omelette was delivered spicy and hot. Giving my daughter a taste we soon concluded that the sausage used reminded us of the blood sausage we have enjoyed for breakfast in Peru, when we travel there to visit my wife's family. This is certainly not a typical omelette for Mobile, Alabama. My only complaint about it is that it was slightly overcooked and dry. Nevertheless, it was very tasty. My daughter had the Fried Egg and Cheese Crumpet, that she reported to be delicious. A mix-up on my drink order brought me a Turkish coffee rather than a Turkish latte, and suspiciously weak to be considered Turkish. I suspect that the cashier heard "Turkish", but not "latte", and confused, may have decided to see if a regular Americano would pass as an acceptable substitute. Except for the jolt I was expecting to receive, from the latte I ordered, it was acceptable. I am eager to return again to try one of their "Build Your Own Smashburger." Until then I will continue to hold the opinion that I have yet to have a disappointing meal at the RedBar, and I rest assured that my meal on that day will be equally satisfying.

I have tried the stuffed mushroom, Shepards pie and a burger and all were fantastic. For a side I had the sweet potato casserole and it was ok, not my favorite as I found the potatoes to be slightly undercooked for my liking. Other than that every thing was amazing. The stuffed mushroom with balsamic reduction probably my favorite. Prices are really good too. The dining tables are old window with mason jars to drink from adding to the uniqueness. Will be back really soon.

With only 16 chairs in each theater, it was also nice to not feel crowded. The footrest was a must for me being a short person. Without the footrest my feet dangled and didn't hit the floor. The chairs also felt clean. You should buy tickets ahead of time since the theaters are so small. Don't wait on tickets til you get there. Parking was really full but we managed to get a space as someone was leaving. Check-in was easy and the workers were nice. Tickets were about $20 each after tax. So let's get to the food. There are no prices on the website for food, so know it's high. Some entrees were around $16-18. I got a shrimp poboy for $22 that came with a decent sized side. There were quite a few shrimp on the poboy and I enjoyed it. The cookie a la mode was a bit overcooked, but still good. Also liked the shrimp and grits ok. Not the best I've had but not the worst. (I'm looking at you, Dauphins) Honestly the best part is ordering from the iPad and have a nice server bring it to your chair without missing the movie. Total for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 sodas, and one dessert was around $160. I'd rather Noja for that! If we came back, it would have to be for a special movie. We'd definitely eat somewhere else first to save money. But I like to try places at least once, and if you have the cash, this is the lux way to watch a movie in Mobile.
