Love love love my haircut from Cory! Called and booked my appointment 2 weeks in advance just to make sure I have my appointment set. His haircuts always make me feel brand new, I don't trust anyone else to cut my hair! read more

Corey is amazing and runs a great salon. Plus, for San Francisco, his prices are FANTASTIC! He takes his time to really listen to you and makes sure he gives you the haircut you're looking for. He washes your hair beforehand and is always very friendly when I go in. I have been seeing Corey for many months now and as long as I'm in the neighborhood I will continue to go to Salon Picasso! read more

I just got through deleting the other bookmarked salons because I found the one that I'll be going to as long as I live in North Beach! Salon Picasso! I moved here last month and wanted to find a stylist who would cut my hair the way I'm used to back home. And having Asian hair doesn't make the task any easier. You see, I went to the same stylist for about 18 years! So when I came to SF, I was a little hesitant to go anywhere. But as my hair got longer, I was forced to explore! I did my research and because my fellow Yelpers recommended Cory at Salon Picasso, I decided to walk in and give it a try... The thing I like about Cory is that he is very attentive. You won't be disappointed with the level of customer service here. Also, Cory listens to what you like. After sorting out the many quirks I have about my hair, Cory made some very great suggestions that really made my haircut look fantastic! I didn't get the typical Asian male haircut that I see around the city, but instead got a haircut that is unique to me. Needless to say, I left extremely happy and will be going back again and again! P.S. If you're new to town, ask Cory for suggestions on where to eat. I got a few great ones that I plan to explore while I'm here! P.S.S. Oh yeah, the prices are great too! read more

Cory was excellent!! He spent a lot of time recommending a great haircut for me, and I appreciated his attention to detail. Thank you, Cory!

I was a bit uncertain given the few not so stellar reviews AND there are more guys than gals praising Cory...nonetheless, I made my appointment and glad I did. Yes, it seems he has more male clientele but he is just as good with female...at least I think so given my haircut. I wasn't really sure what I wanted and debated if I should just trim to test the water. He gave me two style books to look through while waiting and I ear marked quite a few pages but all pretty similar styles. When it was my time - he asked if I found a style I liked. I showed him all but more importantly told him what my problems are and what I am looking for. He listened, messed with my hair a bit and then proceed to tell me what he thinks will work best. I went with his recommendation and am very happy. My husband loves my new haircut, he gave it a thumbs up and the best compliment (makes me look younger!)...thanks Cory for bringing me youth :) Cash only but for wash, cut and style (long hair), it was only $38! I shall return and my husband will be a client soon too! read more

This guy (Cory) knows what you want. Honestly. It's a blessing when you can have someone provide you a service and not have to feel compelled to explain in great detail everything they need to do. With minimal info provided on my part, he went to work and gave me the best cut I've ever had. I've never gotten out of a barbershop/salon happy with my cut, until today. For someone like myself, who seems to have atrocious luck when it comes to any kind of service-based industry - doctor, dentist, mechanic, you name it - this is a massive relief. Hopefully you'll feel the same. Give this guy a shot, you won't be disappointed. read more

After reading all these fabulous reviews I decided to go try Salon Picasso for myself... Overall suggestions to newbie Picasso patrons: KEEP IT SIMPLE. This stylist isn't a "sculptor." I'm sure if I had an ordinary bob and thinner hair my cut would have been impeccable.... ~ I walked in early in the afternoon and Cory fit me in that evening. When i got there he was just finishing up another gentleman who said as he left "See you in 4 weeks!" he looked very well kept so I was even more psyched to have my hair done :) Cory took his time with my hair, and prettymuch followed the pre-existing cut-style (bob short in the back gradually getting longer in the front). I explained that I have a LOT of hair in the back and usually get it thinned or texturized, so he spent a decent amount of time back there. He also spent a lot of time styling, spraying, and touching up... I felt like I was making the lady behind me wait too long, but no one complained and who am I to question the artist at work.... When all was said and done, it was more "stacked" than "texturized" in the back than I wanted, but it looked decent so that was OK and he left the length in the front for the most part (good for me so I can tie my hair back for running). I think it cost all of $40. Not bad! Then I washed it and did my normal round-brush blow dry w/flat iron routine the next morning.... something was not falling right. I inspected further and it was actually a pretty choppy cut. Perhaps if I spent the amount of time he did on styling my hair I would have been able to conceal the choppiness, but my whole style is *simple and sexy* not *spend 30+ minutes just STYLING my hair.* So I tried curling under the ends with the flat iron, and that worked pretty well. Extra steps for me, a bit more time consuming, but whatever. it was a $40 cut and I didn't look like an Edward Scissorhands collaboration. Good enough. Then it starts to grow out a little. Maybe 3 weeks in. And the pieces in the front are lopsided. Huh?? This never happened with my normal stylist here or back east and I've had this cut for a while... I tried my flat iron tricks but to no avail. Unless I've developed new hair-growing patterns in the last few weeks than ever before I would venture a guess that my haircut had a very well-concealed minor "boo-boo." Hmm.... read more

Thursday, 3:30PM Me: "Hi, I need a haircut BAD. When is your next available appointment? Cory: "How about right now?" Me: "OK great!" I left work and scurried down through Chinatown across from Northstar. I was greeted by a pleasant man looking over my gigantic mane and seeing why I needed a haircut ASAP. We chatted as he played with my hair and we negotiated on how much to cut off (I'm very attached to my locks). He was very attentive and was able to translate my somewhat haphazard description of what I was looking for. RESULT: love the cut! He took me a little out of my comfort zone but it worked! I received numerous compliments on it. He really knows what he's doing. I am the type of person to not want to spend much over $20 for a haircut but for Salon Picasso at $45 (cash only), I will definitely be going back! read more

Cory understands my hair. It's hard to find someone who can make it look right, because I have a huge scar from when they removed a tumor from my skull at the age of 10. However, Cory is able to style around it and also make it look just right- the perfect combination of professional yet fun and youthful. His skills have kept me coming back through three different moves, and although I now live pretty far away, I make it out at least once a month to get a new cut. read more

So I moved to SF about 8 months ago, abandoning what was basically the only barber I had known in my adult life. Seriously...through four years of college, I did my best to wait for a trip home before getting a haircut. After becoming unbearably shaggy, I asked around, scoured yelp, and timorously tip-toed into Cory's shop. The first cut was good, and each one since has been better. As Micaela says, Cory's got a sense for what works; I'll add that he also listens to what you're looking for, and gets better as he gets to know you better. read more

Ok this place is not $5 Chinatown cheap, although it definitely is in Chinatown. The barber/hairstylist was great! He was funny and served us well. He was definitely accommodating and knows how to cut Asian hair. Technically I'm not the person who's hair was cut, but my coworkers and I brought another coworker there as part of a make-over session and it was great. Also, we bought some Crew hair products from there and it was only $13 for something that should have cost $18 anywhere else. The owner told us that if we find somewhere cheaper than him (that is not a wholesaler), he'll beat the price difference 3 times! Great service! Try it out if you are a guy for sure. read more

As much as the bargain-hunter in me sings praises to beauty-school haircuts, there's always the chance of falling victim to a flunkie's ragged, layered mess of a cut. This happened to me, but Cory saved me and repaired the damage. Cory has what some beauty-school students unfortunately don't have: talent. He can look at your hair, feel its texture, study your face shape, and understand exactly what needs to be done. He's down-to-earth, and his services are very affordable. Women's cuts for well below 50 bucks. He's open all week except for Thursdays, but I do suggest calling in for an appointment. read more

Had to re-up my review. Been going to Corey for three years now, and a few different hairstyles therein. He's always honest and candid, and just does an incredible job with hair. I have all the trust in the world when he's behind the chair. Try him out! read more

I've always been seriously disappointed after haircuts at multiple establishments (I won't disclose their locations though). 1. Because people have a certain difficulty with dealing with my crazy, thick, straight hair. Eh, it may be straight, but it has it's moments of wiryness. 2. I dispise paying a ridiculous amount of my hard earned money on a crappy haircut. 3. Stranger's hands in my hair. Eewww. But my thoughts have since changed after some of Cory's expert advise and styling expertise; made what I always thought my hair could be! Before he started cutting away half a foot of my hair, he consulted with me about how, after it grows out, what should be done (with my bangs, length, etc.) He always made sure the lengths and layers looked ok and if I concured or not. In between chopping, combing and drying, he talked to me about places to eat in SF and how Hawaii was (whence I lived there). He's very personable and friendly! Makes the haircut experience worth every penny. My haircut (including shampoo) cost under $40. Totally reasonable. But, as everybody else says, it's best to call him first to schedule an appointment. As for the parking situation, yes, it's crazy-difficult, but make a day out of getting a awesome haircut. Park at the Vallejo St. Parking structure, see Cory!!, and then have some yum cha or pizza bread. You'll be right smack in middle of all the good food China Town and North Beach has to offer. And, as an incentive, you can show off your lovely locks around town. hmm..that reminds me, I better schedule a re-cut soon! Thanks Cory!! read more

Wow! That's what I heard from an admirer as I walked out of here! So Now I attract strangers on the street and I suppose that's the start of something good. I didn't have to wait long to get my hair done right and well, thanks Salon Picasso, thanks Cory for making me look , "Wow" read more

I found out Salon Picasso through yelp. Reviews said that Cory was good with asian hair. &yes indeed he was. He was really nice to me. He always interacted with me by asking me questions about my hair and where I was from, etc. The haircut went by really fast since he has 26 years of experience an he really knows what he's doing. Since he was telling me about himself, it made me comfortable for him to cut my hair. I am very picky with my hair. It always has to be hot, and so I always asked my personal friends to cut my hair. This is my first personal stylist outside of my friends and he was a really good choice. I will definitely come back. read more

So I ventured into Salon Picasso after being fed up with the hair cut I got just days before down the street. Thank You fellow Yelpers for your reviews. I asked Cory if he could help me. I was able to be seen in an hour which I thought was great. Here is some advice... Unless you have a cut that you are in love with... that you know just works with your hair and face... TRUST HIM. He takes the time to look at your face and your hair type and talks you through what he thinks will look best. I told him I was not opposed to changing anything but that I did not want a cut that would never be able to be duplicated once I left the salon. I have gotten cute cuts, but I am never able to make it look good on my own. This is why I have waited until the morning to leave my review. He gave me a cut I could do at home and feel great in. Please trust this man.. He knows what he is doing. It is just him in the shop... but this way you will not end up with someone who is not up to his level. Since it is just him call to make an appointment... but I just stopped in and he saw me an hour later. So they are not necessary. As for price he has them posted on the window as you walk by... But I got a shampoo, cut and style for 35 bucks... But if I wanted just a cut it would be under 20 bucks... Thank you Cory, I will see you in 2 months. read more

Picasso is a one man operation run by Cory; a really cool guy who knows how to cut asian hair pretty darn well. Having just moved back to the bay area, it's difficult to find someone who I can trust with my thick head of course hair. My former stylist didn't just look at your hair, she examined facial structure to understand how the hair will fall against your head and how the overall shape and structure of the cut should compliment your face. Cory does the same and within 30 minutes, i had a pretty decent do. It's not the same but for the price and funny conversation, it's not a bad deal. I just might return in a few weeks. If you drive there and can't find street parking, there's a garage around the corner on Vallejo that only charges $2.50/hour. read more

My first hair cut in the City. I needed a good place that's within walking distance from my apt. Cory was all booked up when I called, but he decided to fit me in on 8:30am on a Sunday. Having carried a bad haircut from my previous barber for a month, I was desperate. When Cory met me, he was very patient, took the time to listen which part of my hair was wrong and right, now I'm not a fuzzy guy at all, it was just a bad hair cut that grew so much that I had to explain some part sitting on top of my head isn't by my choice. Anyways, he then snipped and chopped me back to normal. Love it. read more

Cory is one righteous dude. One star for that. He was able to see me that day, which was good because I'd been working for 3 weeks straight and didn't know when I'd have another day off to get a cut. Another star. My normal person over in the Financial District was booked for the day so I looked on Yelp and saw that Salon Picasso was just a few blocks away. Third star. So far, so good. Cory is really friendly and not afraid to tell you what he thinks would look good on you and - let's be frank - he knows hair. I told him that I'm not wild on putting stuff in my hair (who needs to take more time in the morning to get ready?) and what I generally wanted and he delivered. Fourth star. Finally, it was only $23. Five stars! I'll definitely be back when I need another cut! read more

Thanks, yelpers, for the great recommendations! I came to Cory with a trainwreck of a haircut (attained by a so-called "stylist" not to be mentioned). I've seriously been wearing beanies for the past month. Cory listens to what you want, and certainly knows his stuff for scissors- and razor-based cuts. The salon is quiet, he works quickly, and his prices are more than reasonable. He not only repaired the damage to my hair, but I've also received many compliments. Cash only, closed on Thursdays. I'll be back for color next time! read more

I had been searching for a hair stylist for 6 months before finding Cory. Every other place I went to in the same price range and location were simply not wow'ing me. Like another reviewer commented, Cory knows my hair and he often has openings during the week after work hours, which is perfect for me. So I'm sticking with Salon Picasso. Cory takes the time the listen to my ideas, and then build off of them, he makes suggestions, we talked it through and the whole conversation is positive and easy to understand because I'm not a hair expert. I always walk away with a hair cut that I like and I have gotten more hair compliments too! read more

I don't want to date myself but Cory's has been cutting my hair for over 15 years... I was young when I started coming here. Here's the fun story about how that happened. Way back when before the Internet was really popular, my friend looked in the phone book and pick salon Picasso because she liked art. We both came for different haircut/hairstyle but I really liked mine and have stayed with him since. He's colored, conditioned, cut short when I gave my hair to locks of love, trim my long hair style, and now I'm back to shorter... Full circle. Oh yea, I have moved to Las Vegas for the last 5 years and still only see him for my hair needs. I kill multiple birds with my trip back to sf stone. That reminds me, I thinks it's time to go back to sf. See you soon Cory. read more

(From Ms. Smogrocket) I can unequivocally recommend Salon Picasso. Cory really gave a lot of thought to me and my hair, listened to what I wanted and offered his opinion about my hair and how to make my desired cut work for me. He spent a great deal of time on my hair -- and was also really easy to talk to. It seems like most of his clients are men (he got several calls while he was helping me), but I can recommend him for women's cuts too. Yay! Thank you! Loving my new cut! read more

I've been keeping long hair (below shoulder) and cutting hair myself for almost 10 years, and I really wanted to try a pro salon with reasonable price. So did my girl friend. We decided to try Salon Picasso based on it's previous very positive reviews. we both were VERY HAPPY with Cory's cutting!!! He was very good at picking out and adapting a hairstyle that you chose to fit you well. Also, Cory gave me some tips about how to care my hair, as well as how to keep the hairstyle after leaving the salon. I have not cut my hair shorter than above my shoulder in the past 9+ years, and before I always tide my curly hair up, so my hair either did not look curly or looked very fuzzy. Cory suggested me to cut it short yet still stylish, and let my naturally curly hair show all the beautiful curves. Although now I'm still not quite confident with my new short hairstyle, EVERY ONE of my friends LOVES it!!:) I have decided to only let Cory cut my hair from now on and definitely will come back every two months.:) read more

I got my hair cut here last week. It's a quiet salon tucked away between N.Beach and Chinatown. Cory was really great. My hair is really thick and very coarse and curly and apparently really easy to screw up (It's not uncommon for a new stylist to cut my hair like 1) Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink-no matter the decade or 2) a soccer mom who loves theme sweaters), but that didn't happen here. Cory gave me a couple of magazines. I looked through them and then I was like, "You know I just don't want it to be so...Whatever, I trust you. Just make it shorter and not crazy!" Of course, he asked me a lot of questions and had some suggestions, and then he cut my hair. He told me he has been cutting hair for twenty-something years, and I could tell! he knew what he was doing with my crazy hair, and I am really happy with the cut! read more

Been coming to Cory for a haircut for many, many years now... (Am I THAT OLD?) He's seen me lose my hair over the years but I always leave satisfied with a great cut! Give him a try, you wont leave disappointed. Best to make an appointment cuz he's usually busy! read more

I discovered Salon Picasso through Yelp, and called Cory to set up an appointment. He's usually booked, so it's best to call at least a couple days in advance. I have short hair (think Mia Farrow), so it was important for me to find someone who had lots of experience under their belt - otherwise, I'd end up looking like a dude. I'm asian, so my hair type in combination with the length would usually pose a challenge for hairstylists, but Cory knew exactly what he was doing. He gave some helpful suggestions before my cut, and was fun to talk to. As a student, cost is important to me, and I'm very satisfied with the $28 cut I got today. I go to school on the other coast, and I'm definitely coming back in May to get my hair cut here again. Highly recommended! read more

i was introduced to CORY by my cousin Steve. I had been going to Verna for the longest time (it's a shop on Pacific Ave. near Powell St.) i decided to give Cory a shot. After i got my first cut from Cory, there was no turning back. The minute you sit on the chair, he'll ask what kinda cut you like. Then he starts his magic. If you want a good cut, go when he first opens in the morning. Usually there isn't much people waiting. This way, he can spend time cutting without the worries of others waiting. I highly recommend you go see CORY if you need anything done to your hair. He is a people person. While you are getting your hair done, strike up a good conversation with him. The only downside to this business is parking. It's located in a residential neighborhood so often times, it's hard to locate a parking spot. But whatever. Cory's haircuts makes it worth it. Go and give him a chance. You'll see what i mean. By the way, don't forget to make an appt. before you leave the house. He might be busy so this way you will be guaranteed a spot before the walk-ins get their cuts... read more

Yes, i agree. Cory is a good hairstylist. I like my haircut, but it's not exactly wow. Though I did come in with pretty messed up hair. But still, it was a nice cut, but it wasn't exactly stylish or new. it's just average. But still I would have him cut my hair again. I trust him. read more

Since I've been getting my hair cut at Salon Picasso, my sex life has improved dramatically! Cory Da Man!

Great man, really friendly environment (only him in salon) , he listens to you , He does excellent work on men and also if you want just a little trim ....but I am going to have to agree with Carrie L. above. My cut seemed sort of ok when I came out of the salon , definitely shorter than I asked him, but not too bad, because it was styled , next day tho , I noticed that there were a few choppy spots , more noticeable in a few places , and since he cut few inches shorter than I asked for , there is not much I can do about it at this point than wait for it to grow. read more

I must be cursed. I am not kidding. Pick out the best reviewed hair salons on Yelp in my price range, go, get my hair butchered. I do not understand. On this particular occasion, I was feeling really confident about going here - I walked in to make an appointment, and he took the time to look at my hair, and immediately saw exactly what was wrong with it. I left feeling really excited about my upcoming cut. Cut to the day of the appointment. We started talking, I told him what I wanted. I told him I had no photos because I see the haircut I'm looking for on people all the time, but it's never in any "hair picture" places. He hands me a hair magazine anyway, and starts to look through his own. I show him some aspects of various cuts that I like (none of which ended up in my cut), and then he shows me some cuts he found he thinks would work. One specific one he pointed to I specifically said, "I don't want that. It's round and looks like it sits on her head." I mentioned a couple more times that I don't like that type of cut. We discuss a couple more and I think he's got it. Before he starts we talk about how I hate having to style my hair. I'm a wash and go type. Cut to the end. He has styled my hair in the manner of the photo I specifically said I didn't want. And about five minutes from the end he goes, "You can put some stuff in your hair, right?" and then says I need to blow dry first. Also completely opposite of what we'd discussed. I don't understand. I really don't. I didn't want to be here giving this kind of review. I am truly baffled. read more

Needed a quick haircut and Cory provided it for $15. My first haircut since moving to San Francisco as I've been scoping the neighborhood for a decent place. I'll be back in a month or so... read more

Thanks goes out to Cory for the ability to squeeze me in today! There happened to be an opening at 5 so I snatched it up. He really took his time with my hair (I wanted to go for a shorter A-line bob than I already have with a bit more body/bounce in back)...and now I can stop touching it and checking myself out in the windows I passed on the way home and in the mirror at my own place. He was very friendly, knowledgeable about what he was doing -- and he even knew some of my pals! Apparently, he does about 60% guy cuts, but he knew what he was doing and I still look and feel very feminine. Thanks Cory, you better believe I will be back and so will my friends! ....CASH ONLY... read more

Not much new to add here, just wanted to second everyone else's opinion. Great haircuts. Walked in with a desperate need for a haircut because my hair was terribly cut by the last two stylists. The stylist at Picasso knew what he was doing (for a change). When I asked for a cut, he asked specific questions to make sure that I get the exact cut that I wanted. He also had helpful suggestions that turned out better than I had anticipated. Even though he's been there for 12 years, he still is very meticulous and attentive to the details - he pays attention to the pattern of growth, the hair line, proportions, and appropriate length (which should be a given for all stylists, but I found out the hard way that these qualities are rare.) He's very honest with the condition of my hair, but surprisingly he didn't follow it up with pushy sales talk to sell his hair products. The last time I got a hair cut this good, I paid twice as much. The prices are openly exhibited so their is no confusing or shady quotes. So glad that I found a great place so close to where I live. No more bad Asian Boy Band haircuts for me! Finally, I look like a girl! read more
