Oh dear. I hope this will help you make an informed decision about getting services at Salon Ori. Here we go: I met with Anne Magnuson for a haircut, liked her and the cut, and went back for a partial balayage ($180 after automatic gratuity) to achieve a pale pink color (see photo). The result was a slightly darker color than this, but I liked it. I've had many color jobs in my life--permanent, semi- & demi-permanent, henna, color depositing conditioners. I didn't touch my hair for 48 hours, and then rinsed it with water as cold as I could tolerate. Immediately, there was noticeable fade. Over the next 9 days, I washed it a couple times with cool water and color-safe products I'd used with previous color jobs. All the pink left, leaving a mix of gold/yellow/bleached color and my natural, salt and pepper (see photos). Even the Punky Color brand of depositing conditioner lasts longer. I reached out to Anne. Her first recommendation was to come in and pay for a glossing service ($90 before automatic gratuity). It was 11 days after the dye job. She blamed my products. I sent her photos of the ingredient lists, she didn't comment. I asked for a recommendation of a product I could put in myself. She recommended some shampoo/conditioner and a color-depositing product that wasn't available. I let her know, and asked her how long she had expected the color to last anyway. She made another recommendation, and didn't respond to my question. At this point, it was clear she was only interested in recommending additional purchases, and was ignoring my questions about how the dye she put in my hair was expected to function. She blamed my color-safe products, but wouldn't support this with any comment on the ingredient lists I sent. I had actually told her what I use for color-safe shampoo at our appointment, and her only comment was "I didn't know they (the company) made that." Nothing else. No suggestion of any specific products. So, I reiterate to her: 1) After 48 hours, noticeable fade started after just rinsing with cold water; 2) Did she see any red flags in the ingredient lists? 3) How long was the color product she used supposed to last anyway? Her response: politely telling me she won't work with me anymore. And again, no response to these reasonable questions. I reached out to the owner, who tells me "I'm sorry you were disappointed" and that she stands by Anne and also "as she is an independent stylist, I don't get involved in her business." Wow! So, if you're going to book a service at Salon Ori, be careful! If it doesn't go right, chances are they will not address your questions, they'll just want you to buy more stuff, and then tell you in polite terms to **** off. Now I'm going to go put a Moroccan Oil product in my hair--I should have done that in the first place. read more

I've been getting my haircut for years at Salon Ori and have always had great experiences. It is a woman-owned business and all haircuts are based on hair length, not gender, so it is very inclusive and welcoming for all. They feature local artists each month to decorate the space and have lots of lovely plants in their big, sunny window. Their online scheduling system is easy to use and both stylists I've been to (Jen and Betsy) have done a great job understanding my requests and providing their own expertise to make sure my hair turns out great. read more

Beware of this Salon. They basically yelled at my daughter for having a lot of hair and made her feel terrible. They said that they did not have time to cut her hair and had her reschedule. She realized that she wanted to go somewhere else and they still charged her for the haircut. This was the most unprofessional behavior. First-time customer and I got a pretty mediocre haircut whose saving grace is that the price ($50 before tip) is relatively cheap for my kind of hair. Of note, I have thick, curly hair that's usually pretty long. Here's why I'm not happy right now: 1. It's the laziest haircut I can remember getting; I was sent off with damp, pretty unstyled hair. As a result, I actually had no idea how the haircut really looked until an hour or two after I got home. (My hair looks pretty different damp vs. really dry.) I guess when the stylist asked if she could do anything else for me, I should've said, "I have no idea since it's still wet" rather than no, so maybe that's on me? 2. It's oddly frizzy (never what any curly-haired person I've ever met wants, but often what straight-haired stylists seem to want to do to us) and has these dumb ringlets in front, like a bad Shirley Temple wig. I don't think the ringlets will last--it was a styling choice that the stylist did with her fingers--but they are baffling to me. I have, honestly, really beautiful curls (when decently styled, or even when just left to air-dry after they've been recently well-cut). Why would you undo my nice curls and replace them with something that looks fake and weird? These ringlets are sort of like thick corkscrew curls, but since they're not that styled, a lot frizzier. It's an odd look. 3. The cut is several inches shorter than I was expecting based on what she showed me beforehand. Luckily I'm not too picky about length and it probably still meets the central criterion I gave (must be ponytail-amenable), but it seemed like a notable miscommunication. I think the second and third issue might be related through a common source of the stylist maybe not understanding curly hair that well? Anyway, I'm super disappointed because it's my first haircut in a year due to the pandemic and I timed it around something meaningful where I'm going to be photographed tonight. I was really looking forward to finally feeling good about my hair again, and having nicely styled hair in photos. I still look a lot better than I did before the haircut, but I'm sorry that my photos will feature frizz, and I'm gonna figure out a way to un-accentuate the weird ringlets and try to show some of my actual curls instead. It's not a disaster, nor is it the worst haircut I've had in the last 5 years... but it is the second-worst. Salon Ori was perfect! I had my appointment with Jessie and she listened to everything I wanted and was so confident with doing what I wanted. She cut my hair perfectly and listened when I said I wanted it little bit shorter on the side. She even made some great suggestions for making my style even better. She also did an amazing job on my color and hair still feels silky soft. The space is nice and all the staff were wonderful. It's a woman owned business which is a plus! I've been a customer of Lynzy at Salon Ori since August 2010. She is a true professional who takes real pride in her work. I've got unique hair, and unique tastes, and Lynzy has always gone over and above to meet my needs. If I want a particular color extension added to my hair, she'll scour the local shops to find just the right one. If my hair takes a bit longer than we expected, she stays in good humor and makes sure to do a fantastic job, even if she's running late. The best thing about Lynzy, though, is her great personality. She makes her clients feel important, special, and interesting, and she's a fabulous conversationalist, which in my opinion is one of the most important aspects of a good stylist. I found this place through Groupon and it's one of the best things that has ever happened to me! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this salon. Ok, I've been cutting and coloring my own hair since I was a teen because I've had nothing but bad experiences with stylists and salons. I think they're overpriced and they never really give you what you want. This last year I decided to take the black out of my hair and go back to my natural color, blonde. I knew this was something that needed to be done professionally (I just don't have those skills) and I WISH I had gone to Lynzy at Ori to do it. Alas, I did not (because I didn't know of Ori when I started the process). I went to Juut and Phresh which were both EXPENSIVE and horrible experiences. I was left with a terrible cut (from both places) and terrible color (from both places). Ori was my last hope. OOOOOH and it delivered. The salon itself is nice, clean and cool but not snobbish - at all. Lynzy was super honest with me and came up with an AWESOME solution to fix the terrible color I was left with on a head full of damaged hair. I can honestly say I've never felt so "safe" with a stylist. Ever. But I completely trusted her to NOT jack me over. I trusted her to fix my hair without causing me further damage. She spent so much time with me that we closed the place down. She played great tunes to fit my new look and kept my wine glass full (yup, they give you wine too! :D ). After she colored and cut my hair, she gave me the best style I've ever had. 1940s Victory curls that looked amazing! I wanted -NO- needed, to go out on the town when I left to celebrate just how awesome my hair looked. And It was so soft after she styled it that I couldn't stop touching it... I've never actually had that happen. I seriously felt like I had fallen in love with her (and my hair) and it wasn't just the wine taking over. If I was rich, I would force Lynzy to be my personal live-in stylist/hair slave so she could style my hair everyday. I have honest friends and family and they have been quite forthcoming in their comments about how "blech" and "mediocre" my hair has looked since summer (screw you Juut and Phresh!). But after Ori, I have people asking me if they can copy my style! :D The only thing that sucks about Lynzy is that she has made me realize how much I've been cheated by other salons and stylists. I was upset over my previous experiences prior to Lynzy but outraged after. I knew the other salons weren't very good but she exposed them for being complete hacks. Lynzy has a lifetime customer from here on out. I'll never go to another stylist again. Ever. And I've decided not to cut or color my hair anymore but have it done at Ori - I never thought I would be someone to frequent Salons. This place is wonderful. It has a very relaxing atmosphere the minute you walk in the door. They treat you to something to drink, like a glass of wine while you are getting your hair done and tasty treats. Shannon did the coloring of my hair and I told her that I wanted to come out looking different, yet natural. She did a wonderful job. I have never gone very dark with my hair, but she created a beautiful golden brown with blonde highlights. She was very thorough and made sure I liked what I saw when I was done. If you're looking for an eclectic salon that offers high end products without any beauty shop pretentiousness, then give this salon a try. The atmosphere is laid-back, decorated with some shabby-chic furnishings, and provides refreshments such as coffee and tea. The music is always enjoyable and not loud or obnoxious with any Top 40's. I also enjoy the fact that it's located near the Grand Avenue neighborhood and has a decent size parking lot in the back of the salon. Furthermore, if you want a stylist who you can always count on to give you stunning results, then request an appointment with Lynzy. I personally have been going to her for all of my haircuts and colors for the past 5 years or so and she never disappoints me. By now, I usually sit myself in her salon chair and just let her have her way with my hair confidently knowing that I will be happy with my results. She is also exceptional because she dyes Asian hair extremely well and has a very artistic perspective on how to cut and color Asian hair types. I like my hair with volume, layered, and long and Lynzy can cut them without making the layers look frayed. My haircuts by her are done so well that even when my hair grows a couple inches out, it still looks good. Lynzy was also able to lift the natural black out of my hair and dye it to a rich espresso brown without compromising my complexion or having the color eventually fade to a tacky rust color. She has also dyed my hair a deep burgundy-purple color that was tastefully done. I have since referred my sister and another friend to her and they both rave about her. My sister is usually extremely picky about whom she goes to for her haircuts and yet she was pleasantly impressed with Lynzy and now goes to her consistently as well. Lynzy is also a lot of fun to talk to. She's passionate about hairstyling so she always finds new products to offer to her clients (i.e., affordable hair extensions, feather extensions, wedding up-do's). If you're convinced, I suggest making an appointment as soon as you can because Lynzy's usually booked up for 2 weeks before you can see her. She's amazing for a reason! I used to adore this salon and thought I'd finally found "home". Well, this winter, I got a full foil and my hair was striped! I went back and they fixed it - not for free, mind you! But then I went again later and the woman left it on my hair too long because she was trying to do two customers at once. So part of the hair on the side of my hair was burned off. Now I have these awful tendrils from the damage. Recently I went in for a partial based on their recommendations and again, (this was a different woman), because a customer came in for a consultation, she left the color on my hair too long and now it's completely brassy and ugly. This is the best salon I have encountered in a VERY long time! The space is colorful and trendy but not overwhelming or too loud for your eyes. There is sufficient room between each of the chairs so you don't feel like you're going to bump elbows with your neighbor. Jamie did my hair cut. It was perfect!! She listened to what I wanted and provided great suggestions. Every other time I've had my hair cut they tell em I should/need to color my hair because of a few gray hairs, she said I had a couple but didn't say anything about coloring them. My new favorite salon Jen Hunt did my hair, I had some balayage highlights put in and she did such an amazing job! I absolutely love my hair!!! I also have the frizziest hair ever and have to use a straightener to get it silky but she blow dried it straight and it was so silky smooth that a straightener wasn't even needed. Saturday was my first time at Salon Ori. Walking into the salon, I really enjoyed the vintage/art-sy feel to it. I was also greeted hospitably and there was a very warm atmosphere to the place. The most important aspect of my visit though, was how amazing my hair stylist was! I have been getting my haircut by Mitch Bauer for many years now(previously at a different salon), but never gave him a proper shout-out on Yelp (though I have been meaning to). Mitch has the best technique and knowledge of hair that I have ever seen. My hair was really long, scraggly, and dry when I went in and after I came out, my hair was silky and literally, PERFECT. I asked Mitch for something new and intriguing, and slightly edgy. He gave me exactly what I had hoped for and more. My hair looks amazing, with all the edgy layers and flair he added in. I look like an entirely different person! Overall, Mitch really knows about color, technique and hair care. He improved the way I looked and the way I felt which deserves a 5-star rating in my opinion. I didn't even have to show him a picture of what I wanted when I said I would like to look "edgy" and he created an amazingly flawless look. If you are in the area, go check him out!
