I've been getting my hair cut here for years. My kids used to get their hair cut here as well until they stopped taking kids during the pandemic. I absolutely love my stylist, Annie - she is incredible and this review has nothing to do with her. I'm giving this review 2 stars instead of the 1 it deserves because this is the first bad experience I've ever had here. On the day of my last scheduled appointment, I got stuck at a broken turn signal for 10 minutes. I texted the salon to let them know I'd be about 10 minutes late. As I was pulling into a parking spot 11 minutes after my scheduled time, the salon called to see if I was nearby and I told the woman that I had just parked. She responded that I was past the 10 minute window and that I'd have to reschedule. Because I was only 1 minute past the 10 window and was already parked, I asked her if she could make an exception. She put me on hold to check with the owner who told her no. I told her that it'd be fine if Annie didn't style my hair, she could just cut it, to keep her on schedule. She checked with the owner again, who said no, that I'd have to reschedule. Then she told me that they'd already contacted the next client to come in earlier. Why did the woman call me to ask where I was if she was just going to tell me that I had to reschedule, and if they had already called the next client to come in earlier? I couldn't have been any closer - I would have been into the salon in 30 seconds. And how could they have called the next client in the 1 minute from after my 10 minute grace period to the next minute when the woman called me? It makes no sense. I completely understand needing to keep clients on time - I really appreciate that Annie is always on schedule. And because of this, I was willing to forgo any styling to stay within my allotted time. I've been a client here for years and have never been late for an appointment. The lack of flexibility from the owner this day was extremely disappointing. read more

I understand that stylists leave for whatever reason..but the owners and/or management should do whatever they can to get clients in for a make-up appointment as soon as possible..even if they have to do it themselves before or after the salon opens/closes. That's how you keep clients and provide excellent customer service. Months ahead of time, I scheduled a simple root touch up and haircut to be done before my baby shower..after it was canceled at the last minute, the only make up appointments they had available were during the week when I'm at work. I'll be going elsewhere where I can count on my appointment being accommodated. Also, since they started charging by the hour, prices have increased dramatically! read more

I was really excited to get a haircut here, as it's been almost 2 years with the pandemic. I'm extremely cautious with COVID and haven't felt comfortable setting foot into a salon, but I'm desperate. I scheduled an appointment, and they even helped me get an appointment with someone who was vaccinated. I unfortunately came down with the stomach bug the day before my appointment. I called to reschedule, and was told I couldn't reschedule for 14 days. I appreciate the caution with COVID, I really do. However, here is why I give one star. I asked if I showed a negative PCR COVID test if I could reschedule sooner, and was told no. PCR COVID tests are the gold standard for airlines, hospitals, medical settings, schools, day cares, etc. If you can show a negative PCR COVID test, it sure does feel like discrimination for being sick. I highly doubt people are waiting 14 days from having *any* COVID symptom (which is really anything!) before their appointment. It's policies like this which lead people to lie about symptoms or illnesses. I won't be giving this salon my business, and for any loyal customers, I suggest you not tell them if you've had so much as a headache in the last 14 days. This isn't COVID precautions, this is discrimination! read more

I recently had an appointment for a partial highlight/low-light with Tessa and was very satisfied. Tessa was a good listener and made me feel very comfortable with how we were going to color my hair. I was concerned that it wouldn't look 'natural' (I have red hair so it's a "thing") but she did a great job choosing colors that blended nicely with my own - it looked seamless. The salon has recently undergone a small renovation which has added more stations to the studio floor - hopefully they can add more stylists and alleviate the wait time for appointments. Typically you will need to book 3-4 weeks in advance for any color appointment which can be tough -- 4 stars versus 5 because of this. I like being spontaneous with when I get my hair done, so I look forward to more flexibility. Free parking, iPads to peruse magazines ((I do miss real magazines though... I haven't booked with Halcyon since the beginning of the pandemic. I started to book an appointment this morning and changed my mind. Prices have increased a lot! I know there are other salons that cost more, but no thanks. I got sticker shock and booked at another salon that still charges by the service, not by the hour. When did this charge by the hour trend start anyway?! Have I been living under a rock? And not taking clients under the age of 16 is a bit ridiculous. I miss salon afternoons with my daughter. My friend and I came to get our hair done last weekend and we had the best experience ever. My stylist was Marissa and I could not have been happier with her! She was so sweet, attentive, hilarious, not to mention GREAT at her craft. I about fell asleep in my chair during my scalp massage, and my blowout turned out so full, soft, and bouncy! I didn't have to wash it for days! It smelled phenomenal, and I looked like a darn Pantene model as I was leaving. I did not need cut or color services this time, but I have gotten my hair cut and colored here before and it has always turned out beyond amazing. I have no doubt Marissa would have knocked it out of the park, and I'm sure she will when I come back to see her. My friend saw Danielle, and she was amazing as well. Then they told us she had to be 16, she is just shy of 16???? So 1st WTF. Then they said she had to be 18??? No minors??? 2nd WTF. They knew she was 15 when we initially scheduled so what gives? I go here regularly to get my hair done and love it!! I typically see Laura who does a great job on dying my hair! She gives good advice and it's always turned out exactly how I wanted it to. I haven't had a cut with her yet since I was growing my hair out for my wedding, but I have full trust in her. The salon itself is very nice and welcoming! I gave Tara an impossible task and she knocked it out of the park. I walked in with 2 inches of new growth about 30% gray, and asked her to blend in the grays and take me back to my natural color. Tara did an amazing job, my hair looks great and I feel great. Also, they are taking every possible precaution to keep clients safe with masks, hand washing, and touch less pay. I've been with Taylor for four years and love going into the salon. They work so hard to maintain a calm and serene atmosphere, which is only one of the reasons I refuse to go anywhere else. If you need to bring your children along for your hair service, may I recommend a Cost Cutters, Great Clips, or Fantastic Sams. Halcyon is not the place for your child, as there are clients like me enjoying the experience sans children. Get a babysitter, sit in a chair, and relax. The front desk cashier Overcharged me $150 last time I was in for a haircut, I let it slide, but then she tried it again the second time around without apology of any kind. $150 for a $60 haircut! The single biggest issue with this Salon is one of the young owners. She is rude and needs some training in customer service. We moved to the area from NoCo and had been customers of the Aveda 10 salon in Loveland for years. Our entire family of 5 went there. I was initially very happy to find this salon because it was an Aveda salon. Well not all Avedas are created equal. Our first experience I had both my girls on the same day with different stylists and I booked myself for a different day. The young lady that did my youngest daughter was awesome. She was engaging, nice and listened. The young lady that did my older daughter was terrible. She was rude to her, didn't listen and didn't speak to her. Apparently didn't like doing young girls hair. Even though we were unhappy we paid AND tipped! Next appointments I booked all with same young lady that did my younger daughter. Everything was great until our last appointments which I had pre-booked due to Thanksgiving. Left work downtown Denver early, picked up daughter, husband scheduled to pick up other daughter and drop her off. Get to salon and no appointments. They claimed to have called 2x but I had no voicemails on the very same phone I use to type this review. Yet they can send a text confirming my appointment but guess cannot text a cancellation or a problem. Rude young owner who was my older daughters original stylist came out and asks if I want to reschedule. And it was clear she could care less how much I was inconvenienced. I said No and left. Terrible customer service. It's too bad my stylist left. I will not be back! read more

I've been going to this salon since the very first week it opened, and it's been great watching them grow. I've mostly worked with Whitney and Taylor, but my mom has had Tessa. All have been great. This salon really cares about the experience they give customers, and goes above and beyond to create a peaceful, relaxing, and tranquil environment. I vividly remember showing up to an evening appointment that was only supposed to be a cut, and telling Whitney how I was feeling blah and wanted to change my look up with color next time. I was her last appointment in a what I'm sure had been a long day, but she offered to stay late and do my color right then and there. She definitely didn't have to do that, and that little extra pampering was exactly what I needed at the time. Another time, after a lovely week of toddler screaming at nothing/everything, I was surprised with a complimentary mini-facial before my cut. Maybe they were running behind, who knows, but again, it meant so much to me as a customer and was exactly what I needed. A handful of customers have been really unhappy about the "no unattended children" policy, but I remember when the policy was released, and have always seen it clearly stated. It is up to us customers to read and acknowledge policies. I think it's really unfair to hate on the salon for standing by policies that they feel are necessary to maintain the safe and tranquil environment they have worked hard to create. I have small children, and the lack of tiny humans in the salon is wonderful for me! I know that when I go to Halcyon, I'll have an entire hour without the chance of hearing a baby or toddler cry, which is rare in my house. My only reservation is that they are so fantastic that it's become really hard to get appointment with the ladies I've been with from the start. I can't book 8 weeks in advance due to our unpredictable schedule, so I occasionally cheat on them and go someplace else. But, I always end up coming back to have Halcyon fix the "meh" haircut someone else gave me. Hopefully, I'll always continue to be able to squeeze into this hidden gem of a salon! read more

I love supporting local businesses, and as such, I started going to Halcyon Salon and Spa two years ago when I moved to Erie from Denver. As a regular customer, I was appalled and embarrassed by how was treated in the salon today. I have an eight week old newborn and I brought her with me to get my haircut. In fact, when I was there for my last appointment about 36 weeks pregnant, both my stylist and the front desk told me they couldn't wait to meet my baby. The whole haircut today took about 45 minutes and my baby slept in her carseat the entire time. I had several people from the salon and other guests come up and say hi to her, and as my appointment was finishing, I was feeling great about having gotten out of the house for a bit and finally feeling pampered as new mom. After I had paid and scheduled my next appointment (which I scheduled for a Sunday, making note that my husband would be home to watch the baby), the receptionist suddenly starting speaking in hushed tones and told me that the owner wanted her to tell me that while they made an exception for me today, I was to make adequate childcare accommodations before coming back to the salon and that they only allow children in the salon if they are receiving a service. It took me a minute to process what she had said, and when she repeated it, I told her that I was really surprised by this policy (especially with babies) and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. About twenty minutes later I received a call from the owner, Whitney, who reiterated the same message but apologized for the way the receptionist delivered it. She shared they they have the policy in place so children don't get harmed in the salon and that the policy is visibly posted online. I told her that I understood why they would have a policy in place and asked why they didn't inform me of it when I walked in with my baby. After all, if the policy is in place to keep children safe, it seems negligent to me that you would notice the baby but not tell the mom about the policy because you want her business before offending her. Whitney tried to tell me that they were doing me a "favor" as a new mom, but I am sure any parent fails to see what favor they provided me with this by making me feel unwelcome with this embarrassing experience. Once I got of the phone with Whitney, I was curious to learn more about this policy I had so obviously missed, and I was surprised to see that the policy stated in the website is not even close to the policy that was communicated to me in the store and over the phone. The website states "...A salon can be a risky environment for a curious child... as such, all children must be under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times" (I have a screenshot of their website in case Whitney decides to change it upon my experience today). At no point during my 45 minute haircut today was my eight week old baby not directly supervised by me. In fact, she can't even rollover yet let along get out of her carseat and become an issue for the salon. I had also told my stylist when I got there that I brought a wrap so I could wear her and keep the carseat out of the way and she told me my baby was fine. It seems to me that Whitney and her salon took something that was completely innocent - a mom getting a haircut with her eight week old baby - and turned it into an unnecessary situation. While no justification is needed here, I certainly never had intentions of bringing my baby with me to every salon appointment, and just like any mom, I actually would've loved an hour to myself to relax. That said, the salon made it clear my baby was not welcome, and I certainly will never go back and I want to make sure other parents are aware of this situation and how I was treated today. To lose a long-time customer over something so trivial seems petulant to me, and they didn't lose just me but my daughter as a future customer as well. Please think twice about giving Halcyon Salon and Spa your money - I am sure there are a lot of great salons in the area that would've handled the situation better and I would love your recommendations. read more

I was a loyal customer at Halcyon since moving to Broomfield over a year ago. I was there every 6 weeks for a color and cut. I never miss an appointment. I'm always on time. Never had an issue & sang your praises on various Broomfield MOM groups, etc. I spend a fortune on beauty products/hair/med spa/facials/etc. I am a salon owner's dream client. My stylist, Sara, is absolutely amazing. She's good at what she does, & she's great company. We always had a lot to talk about, & I enjoyed my time w/ her. That's why I'm so upset about my last appointment, and the fact that I'm having to find another salon. My last appointment was an absolute disaster. It was 4 days before Christmas Eve. I was in desperate need of needing color done, so changing my appointment wasn't an option. I had been up since 4:30 that morning baking for class holiday parties, planning and attending holiday stuff literally all day long for the kids, my husband was ill and stuck in traffic when it came time for my late night hair appointment. I was stuck in a pickle. I dropped my middle kid off at tutoring, bribed my oldest w/ babysitting money & Starbucks to come sit w/ his 4 yr old sister until my hubby could meet me at the salon to pick them up. It was literally a Christmas miracle that I got to the salon on time that night, yet I got the rude "I'm sorry but we can't service you b/c your children are unattended." I completely get the 'no child policy' most of the time. Hey, I don't even want my own kids w/ me during my only 2 hours of 'me time' a month. However, sometimes life happens & grace needs to be shown when it's obvious that your very LOYAL client is at her wits end for the day. It's part of good customer service. It was apparent that I had gone the extra mile by bringing my babysitter aged son to sit w/ my daughter for a few minutes. I am not an emotional person, yet there I was w/ tears rolling down my cheeks. I've never been more embarrassed by a business before in my life. I'm normally a very non-emotional person. I kept trying to dry it up w/out anyone noticing, but the young desk girl just wouldn't stop. Then sweet Sara came out and started rubbing my back. It's worth repeating, I was mortified. I honestly thought that I would get over it in a few weeks and book my next appointment, but here I am in January..... I just can't do it. I bent over backwards to honor my appointment and make it work. I needed that appointment that night like I need air to breathe. That was not the night for this experience to happen. Grace should have been shown to begin with, but more importantly the young girl at the front desk should have just stopped pushing. It was bad enough that someone who just doesn't 'get it' when it comes to mom life was the one telling a loyal customer that she wasn't getting her heir done that night w/ the kids in tow, but then she kept bugging me throughout my appointment. After my appointment, the perfect ending of the night was that the young girl at the front desk got my bill wrong, and I had to correct her b/c she only charged me 1/2 of what I owed. Furthermore, I'm really surprised that after what happened to me that night that the owner didn't make a customer recovery phone call. I mean, I would assume that something like that would come up in a staff meeting. I was honest w/ Sara & the front desk that I wasn't sure if I could come back. Halcyon does a fabulous job on your hair, but the management really should review their policy on what's considered an 'unattended child' & teach staff to show some grace to extremely loyal customers. Nothing in life is black and white... there are always gray areas that need to be handled with care and consideration. read more

I have been going here since they opened and I can't say enough positive things about this salon. The salon itself is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. Whitney is an gifted stylist and knows exactly what to do with my cut and color, even when I don't know what I want. She was even able to give my hard to please 13 year old daughter a hairstyle that she loves. I haven't had an appointment with any other stylist in the salon, but can say that I have never seen a bad haircut or color come out of there. I spent a lot of time researching salons and stylists that could tackle my ridiculously thick hair and the botched haircut I had been growing out for over a year. Taylor was exactly what I was looking for and she has never disappointed me in two years. I'm not good at planning my hair services because I haven't quite yet found a home for my hair! I usually tend to "walk-in" somewhere I'm feeling it. I am sooo happy I walked-into Halycon!! Right I away I was greeted by Whitney, who I found out later is also owner of the salon with her sister and Mom. She is adorable, interesting and talented! I'll get to her in a sec! Another plus is the salon is less then 2 miles from my house! I was excited to be surrounded by Aveda products and a sophisticated decor, I knew I was in the right place! I explained what I wanted and she was able to see me a little later that day, it worked out for me because I just popped on over next door for a pedi and quick shellac nail color change, another thing i never plan but that's another review #thenaillounge in Erie. I returned to Halcyon and Whitney was ready for me and she took me back to her chair and again I was loving the furnishings and atmosphere. Her chair was comfy and the mirror inviting. While we discussed more of what I was thinking about doing with my hair she gave me a wonderful neck and shoulder massage, this girl has a strong yet gentle touch! The music was just right where I didn't feel like I was in a club having to shout out at her! She offered me a variety of beverages, I chose coffee, which by the way was delicious! We talked about what I wanted and she knew exactly what I was talking about and needed. I had a cut, color and low-lights. I am brunette and I wanted my "lights" to look natural and she achieved the exact look I wanted and omg, can she blow dry, I have alot of hair and its long but she just worked her magic with her brushes and blow dryer amd my hair came out smooth and full! During the whole experience, Whitney and I talked about alot of different things and we even engaged in conversation with her sister and her customer, her sister is also a stylist/owner. I felt like I was among friends :) The wash chair was quite comfy too, I didn't feel as if my head was on a chopping block when she was washing my hair, lol! Did I mention there hand and arm massage too... I have been regularly serviced by Halcyon since it opened and have been overwhelmingly pleased with each visit. I have been seen by Taylor primarily and have been bringing my daughter in to see Whitney as well. These stylists as well as the others in the salon have been so professional, pleasant and show true quality with their work. They are very knowledgeable and are stylists you can trust. The salon itself is always so inviting and calming. I even find myself dozing of at times and give the gals and other guests a good laugh! They have beverages and occasionally a cookie ready for you to enjoy! It's the little things, all the intricate details that makes this salon feel that much more special and outstanding. I see that the salon has grown in my time visiting and they are in great demand here! I usually book quite a few weeks in advance and in some cases a good month or two, especially because my hair is so long and generally requires a long appointment (3 hours on average!). It's well worth it! They meet all of our needs and make every last penny that I have spent here count. My most recent appointment just finished and I felt that these women needed to be recognized for all of their hardwork especially to endure all of the great changes I've made to my hair, especially for those 4 hour long appointments, sorry Taylor!
