I've been to this salon three times and really haven't had good results. My last experience really sucked. The stylist was in a hurry to get me out of there. She didn't wash my hair and cut it half straight half wavy. I have a long chunk on my left side. My hair was really long and now it's an awkward short length. I have no idea how to style it. She wet my bangs down to cut them. When she was done she asked "want me to dry them" it was like 2 degrees outside. I told her I feel like when my hair is cut wet it comes out better. Derrick is incredible! The only person I'll let cut my hair! He has tons of experience and knows exactly what will look great for me. He's easy to talk to when you want but it's never uncomfortable when I prefer to sit in silence. He's very focused and his results speak for themselves! I always leave feeling great! The only trouble I've had with Salon Avalon is their reception. They've booked my appointment incorrectly and I am often completely ignored the girl at reception until Derrick comes by. No greeting, no updates on time frame, and no smile. Not a deal breaker by a long shot given the quality of Derricks service but it would make the experience much more pleasant. read more

It's not often I can find a salon that all 3 in our small family enjoy going to. So, I was happy to see that the atmosphere in this salon was a great fit for us! My son is the biggest critic, so it's a good sign he likes our stylist, Jessie, and has gone for a cut each time WITHOUT a fuss! (He's 15, fah-get-a-bou-dit!) My husband is happy with the results and; of course, I have been extremely pleased. The music isn't too loud, all the latest magazines are available for reading, and bottled water or coffee are offered without fail each visit. Jessie is great with current styles and color - love it! I used to love going here, but my usual stylist left. I didn't think twice about trying a new stylist--big mistake. Laurin was my stylist. I'm pretty easygoing with my hair because I know it'll grow back, but after this cut, I left the salon crying. I asked for light layers, I basically ended up with a mullet. If I pulled my hair back, I looked like I had a chin-length bob...and then it was just the long hair in back. Not a cute look. Obviously, that's just my experience with one stylist, so take my opinion on the salon however you'd like. read more

Hannah is my gal! She takes care of my haircuts as well as my 3 children. After having broken teeth on a trimmer shoved into the back of my head 2 times in a row at a local "walk-in" chain I decided it was time to spend a couple extra bucks. I stumbled on Hannah at Salon Avalon and she has been great! She has been cutting my hair now for over a year and my kids have been going to her now for a few months as well. The ownership at this place was changing hands quite often for a while but the current one has been in place for a while and seems to have stuck. Don't hesitate to give them a try! read more

I got my underarms waxed and she burned me. She kept waxing over the same spot like 4 times.(looks like she doesnt know how to wax !) I asked her to tweeze instead she replied "I would be weird to pluck hair there" and laughed it off. I wonder how they do their Brazilian wax?!! She was good at doing eye brows but that's it. read more

I have been going to this salon for my hair styling needs since my first homecoming dance in highschool over 6 years ago. Now, I come back to have my hair styled for my wedding. I booked in person months before the date, and neither myself nor my wedding party were on the books come a week before the wedding. The staff then proceeded to blame the scheduling mishap on us. WORST customer service I have ever experienced. However, the staff is wonderful when it comes to actually doing your hair. read more

I came in today to wax my underarms and eyebrows and it was the worst wax ever. I see cosmologist are only good with eyebrows nothing else. She waxes on one spot like 4 times. She burned my underarm. When i asked her to tweeze she said its "weird to pluck hair there" and kept waxing. U can't wax more than once on one spot. I am an esthetician I know the right way to wax, I should of said something but I wanted to see how experience she was. Don't go there to wax anything unless its ur eyebrows. read more

Visited the Shakopee salon, the stylist was not very professional. Whenever I would say anything she would disagree with me. It was in better condition before I went in and she said it's usually in better condition when you leave because of the stuff she used. When I noticed how frizzy it was I felt it wasn't worth saying anything because all she does is disagree with me. Spent way to much to walk out feeling like I didn't have any rights to question anything. Hopefully she will learn to listen to her clients and stop treating them like they don't know anything. She needs to learn how to be more professional and show respect to her clients. read more

I have been going here for 2 years now and will miss it when I move! Taylor has been my stylist/colorist for those past 2 years and I can't speak more highly of her. She does fabulous work! I moved to Shakopee from St. Cloud 2 years ago and she was the 3rd stylist I tried (first at this salon). Taylor does a great job at really listening to what you are looking for and lets you browse the colors to explain what look you are trying to go for. Taylor also makes her recommendations if she thinks something won't come out they way you are envisioning it (which can really save you time and money trying to fix something you don't like!). She definitely knows what she is talking about. The salon itself has a great, open, airy atmosphere. They offer complementary drinks and always have up to date gossip and fashion magazines to look at! Overall, for the price and what you get for the money, I would definitely recommend Salon Avalon and Taylor in particular! read more

I've been meaning to write a review but procrastinated. I had my haircut by Heather and left the salon feeling disappointed. I don't think she even cross checked her work because my hair was uneven. I called the next day to talk to the mananger but Heather answered the phone so I basically hung up. When I think about that haircut I still get mad at how badly the haircut was but mostly that I gave her a tip out of guilt. I have never gone back and never will. read more

I will never go to this Salon again. I went back there after my regular stylest left also, thinking that all the stylist's had the same experience. I guess not. Amy debated with me about color for the first 10 minutes. I wanted red highlights, she said they would fade, I said I didn't care I would come back and have it redone. When the foils came out I should have left, because the color was gold not red. I had brought a picture in with me of the style I wanted, which would only have required a little trimming in the back. When she was finished cutting it, I was never given a mirror to look at the back, and was already in shock at how short the sides were. I paid for the style and left. When I got home I looked at my hair closer, and at the back. It is as short as a man's hair. The two sides are at least an inch different in length and on the shorter side there is a chunk of hair missing. For the first time in my life I called the salon to get a refund. The owner returned my call two days later, and said there was a problem because I didn't ask for a refund that day, and he wouldn't refund my money, because if they did this for everyone, the place would go broke. So what I have learned here is that if a job faking stylist, ruins your hair, throw a major temper tantrum immediately. I would not have even bothered to try and get my money back if it was a $15.00 haircut, but this was a $127.00 hack job. It makes sense to me now that there was only one other customer there on a Saturday afternoon. My rating? Losers. read more
