I was nervous about getting a hair cut during COVID but the ladies here did a great job and made me feel comfortable. They took my temperature at the door, sprayed everything down and wore real masks appropriately. We had a great conversation the whole time and I loved the haircut I got. I wish I could give more than 5 stars to Salon 62. Caitlin does my hair and I have to say that I am more than 100% happy every time I decide to get a new haircut or color with her. She makes sure that the outcome of my hair is exactly what I want and she does so by explaining the process and making every experience a fun one. In addition, the owner and all the employees here are super kind, respectful and just fun to talk to. The owner (I believe it's Jan?Mommy brain I'm sorry) is amazingly sweet! She cares about every single customer and is always so pleasant and supportive! As a person who is used to getting her hair done in Newbury Street to the suburbs of Boston this is comparable to the top-notch hair salons but more affordable costs with an added dash of love and care. I love this place! Went here last Tuesday for a cut and color, and I am very happy with the results. They use the Paul Mitchell line of products, which are one of my favorites! Especially their color system, I got a semi permanent color done called a PM Shine, and it makes your hair glow. Additionally, the haircut came out really lovely, exactly what I asked for. What makes this place really exceptional is their deals. On Tuesday they have a Ladies discount and on (Wednesday?) they have a Men's discount, I walked out of the salon paying only $46 for the cut and color. If you can't make it on one of their special days they also have a Haircut bonus club, where you buy 5 haircuts get the 6th free, can't say no to that. I thought okay, I just want a normal haircut for which I don't wanna pay 50$ and how hard is it to cut the hair-edges?! So I went to Fantastic Sams and from the moment on I entered the Salon, I wanted to leave. The staff wasn't friendly at all, there was no friendly atmosphere and the staff seemed to me, to be happy when the day's over. Furthermore, at temperatures like these (I mean 20° Fahrenheit!?) a blow-dry should be included (I don't care, if I have to pay for it, but they even didn't have 10 Minutes for a quick blow dry! ) At least, they should have asked when I called, if I would like a blow dry. Then she didn't even put shampoo on my hair. Just asked me if I want a conditioner and she put it on my head-skin, so when I came home I could wash my hair. Moreover, you didn't even see, I visited the hairdresser, just my hair is shorter and has no form anymore - maybe now I look as if I haven't been to the hairdresser in months. The worst decision ever that I wanted to safe money at the hairdresser! I rather pay more for something I want and for something that makes me happy, than pay less for that. read more

The stylists do an exceptional job, having had each of the ladies cut my hair which can be difficult, (3 cowlicks) and each one has done an outstanding job. A solid 4, easy to make an appointment, quick shampoo, quick cut, unbeatable price. I am not a high maintenance gal and go in only for a wash and a trim. I walk out with my locks still damp. Zina is great. She is friendly and focus on details. We tried other ladies there, and they are fine as well. Our whole family will go there for haircut. This place is really reasonably priced (I think they have a discount for ladies on Tuesday, so I paid about $12 for a wash and cut). This place is also really clean and the hair stylists are really nice. I had a woman named Zina (I think) who was really great. She was really careful and meticulous with my hair and putting in layers. My hair is stick straight so layers can come off choppy on me, but she did a great job, they look great. I have been following Donna around for years. I have always received a great cut from her. My neighbor who spends tons of money on her hair asked who cut my hair and said it was the best cut she's ever seen on me! When I told her it was a $15 Fantastic Sam cut she wouldn't believe me! Every time Donna cuts my hair i get tons of complements. And honestly I would rather walk into a Fantastic Sam's where real people go to get a hair cut from a real person. I was so tired of walking into salons where it felt like I was intruding on a private party that I wasn't invited to! Too busy for more business, but employees standing around desk talking! It is next door to a Dunkin Donuts, as I was working from home that day I had decided to go out and grab a coffee and bring it home. When I drove by Fantastic Sam's I noticed two woman employees standing at receptions desk talking. Since it was 9:30 AM on a weekday I figured it was the ideal time to walk in and get my usual 10 minute haircut. However, they responded that they were too busy and that they were really scrambling b/c someone had called in sick. They never even asked or looked at schedule book for rest of day. They just showed total lack of caring if I got a haircut or not - I doubt if they have any stake in the business but thought I should post in the odd chance that someone that does have a stake sees this. read more

This place is, well, fantastic! I had a cut from a pricier salon that just didn't feel right, so on a whim I got an appt here, and I so should have come here first! Nancy was my stylist and she was GREAT. She really listened to my concerns and spent quite awhile looking at my hair before coming up with an idea. And it was perfect! I'm so, so pleased. I just got my cut at Fantastic Sams today after moving and realizing I need to find a new salon. At first, I was a bit put off by the name, but after reading a bunch of favorable reviews and seeing how they are incredibly reasonably priced, I decided to give it a shot since I have a pretty basic hair cut and was just looking for a simple trim. The stylist was amazing! She asked me exactly what I wanted (usually they go right in and shampoo, but since my hair is so dry I shampoo once weekly and condition with every other shower). She was receptive, and talked me through exactly what she was going to do. I will definitely be coming here from now on! read more

I don't feel it is a kid friendly place, and if you ask to 'keep the length and take off only an 1/2 an inch", you might need to show them EXACTLY what you mean by that because we had a major communication issue. It was more like 1 1/2" taken, but I give her credit for not butchering my son with a bowl cut like another place we went to. Not horrible, but not great either. I had my hair done by Melissa Merly for my wedding along with a few friends and mothers. The process from start to finish was so easy. Melissa listened to exactly what we wanted and delivered great results! A few of us showed her pictures of the styles we were looking for and she replicated them perfectly! My hair stayed perfect all day and night through dancing and sweating! I would absolutely recommend her for special occasion up-dos, and also hair cuts. We took our kids (age 18 months and 4 years) to get their haircut at Fantastic Sams. This was our second visit. I cannot say enough good things! Their staff is friendly, and patient with the kids (which is something I can't say for other local salons we've tried). Their hours, and the fact that you can make appointments, make it an excellent choice for moms who don't have a lot of time. Sharon, the owner, couldn't be more welcoming. I have been going to the Acton Fantastic Sam's for several years. I usually receive great cuts. Last week I had my first haircut disaster and sadly it was here. My usual hair stylist was on maternity leave so I've been using a different hair stylist. My first experience with her was so-so but I wanted to give her another chance (BIG BIG mistake) in the event that my usual hair stylist changed her hours. I went for a cut and basically wanted a shaping. We talked about what I wanted and Donna started cutting. After a few minutes I realized with horror that there were 3"-4" lengths of hair being cut off!! At this point I couldn't glue the hair back so I waited to see the final result. She blew dried my hair and it didn't seem to have a style but it's really difficult (at least for me) to tell until I wash and work with my hair myself. The next morning I washed and blew dried my hair and could not believe my eyes. Aside from the fact that my hair was much shorter than I wanted, the layers were choppy and messy, the back was much longer than the sides, and no amount of blow drying could get this mess to style. For the first time in my life, I looked in the mirror and cried. I looked as if someone had taken a pair of dulled scissors and hacked my hair. We've all had a bad haircut at least once in our lives, but this was my first haircut disaster where I wanted to wear a hat when I left the house. I immediately called Fantastic Sam's and the owner told me to come in later that day so they could try to fix it. They did their best to try to minimize the damage. Will I go back to Fantastic Sam's? Yes, because they do have some excellent hair stylists and the owner did try to find a solution to a terrible situation. I took the time to write such a lengthy review because I want to warn everyone about the hair stylist who did this. I don't know if she will still be working there, but if she is....stay away from Donna. She is too busy talking to the other stylists and not the customer. I went to this place twice, but never again. The first time I went was for my dance hair, and after showing pictures and thoroughly explaining what I wanted they ended up not achieving the easy wavy hair. There are some nice people, but they are also some very rude people, for example I called to get an appointment for highlights and they said they would take me, when I arrived the same rude women said that she had tried calling and I checked my phone but there was no calls and then I said that the main contact was my dad, so she then said that she called him and that someone said I was going to be out of town, this was all excuses and they said that they scheduled wrong and could take me, but there were many employees but only 1 customer. I only come here because they have good low prices but I would rather pay more money for polite people they less for rude people. read more

I called Fantastic Sams to book a hair appointment for myself. When I arrived on time for my hair appointment, the stylist told me she could not cut my hair because my hair-type was "too difficult to style." She "confirmed" her point by having the stylist next to her say the same thing to me. I told the stylists that I am a regular customer at Fantastic Sams, and that I never had an issue with other stylists cutting my hair at their salon. However, instead of trying to reason with me, these stylists told me that I have an "attitude," and that I need to learn to better manage my own hair. I was shocked by their level of unprofessionalism, and I told them that I will not be returning to their salon. Instead of apologizing for being rude to a customer, they chose to shrug their shoulders and laugh. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AT THIS SALON-ANY SALON IS BETTER THAN "FANTASTIC" SAMS. read more

i'm very surprised to read so many negative reviews... (4.5 stars) i had a VERY positive experience last night for my first visit to Fantastic Sam's. i called in the morning and "Stephanie" answered; and after carefully listening to my hair dilemma, recommended that i come in that same evening and see their color specialist, Melissa. When i arrived, i was taken on time and Melissa was very meticulous in assessing my color issues (i have previously been having my hair colored at a Cosmetology School)... She explained everything perfectly well for me to understand and came up w/a plan. She never criticized the work (and mistakes) that the students at the beauty school had made-- She was totally courteous and professional --worked very efficiently. She demonstrated confidence and experience in her technique in color application. The products were awesome--left my hair feeling silky and looking shiny. Although the cost of going to a professional salon outweigh the cost of going to a beauty school; the results (in my case here at Fantastic Sams) were well worth it. i will def recommend this salon to my friends and i will def be booking my next appt. with Melissa. read more
