During construction of The Banks project, workers unearthed an old portion of Cincinnati. In a way,…read moreit was almost like the stories of New York City being build on top of "Old York City." Breaking way through the pavement lay the foundations of Cincinnati businesses and residences from the 1800s. That's where Gray & Pape came in. Gray & Pape is a historic preservation company that specializes in Archaeology and Architectural History. Construction on The Banks was halted while artifacts were excavated from Old Cincinnati. During the weekend, Gray & Pape held an event for the public to come out and view the site, as well as many of the artifacts they had unearthed: - Dishware - Rookwood Tile - Kettles - Beer bottles - Griddle - Wheel rim It was amazing to have the chance to view a part of Cincinnati history first hand. As for the site, Old Cincinnati was buried under a layer of asphalt as The Banks proceeded to be built. Maybe the next generation of Gray & Pape will rediscover the site in another 200 years.
