Despite being fairly computer savvy I had an issue with my laptops hard drive I couldn't seem to fix or diagnose. I took it to Salem Geeks and explained everything I had tried to do to them, they said they'd do a diagnosis and have something for me by the end of the day. 3 Days later I finally got a call back. They did not know what the problem was but still charged me for the diagnosis and insisted on an OS reinstall that would have cost me alot more. I ended up buying a new laptop and was much happier. I would not use Salem Geeks again as there are other companies out there that will not charge someone for an unsuccessful diagnosis. 2/13 Update: I changed my score to 1, wish I could give it a zero. They blatantly scammed a friend of mine into paying for an OS reinstall when she had some malware on her computer that made it crash after booting. What could have been easily removed by going into safemode with an antivirus scanner, caused her to lose all of her photos and documents and put her out alot of money. read more

I just have to send a shout out for Eric at Salem Geeks for the superb job he did for me on my extremely messed up computer without the insane prices you might find at other Computer Repair places. I'm sure he didn't make any money off me with this repair. Salem Geeks are focused on making sure their customers leave satisfied. They do absolutely everything they can do to repair your machine even if they end up loosing money on it. My desktop Dell XPS had problems since I got it from the manufacturer but I lived with it for a long time. Then the computer got a virus and messed it up even more so the OS wasn't even loading. Eric was able to recover all my data, format the drive and reload what had been an almost full drive (that hadn't been backed up... I know, stupid of me.) Erick!!! I took my Macbook Pro in because it was totally locked up and told me my disk was full. Apparently I don't empty my trash often enough and had accumulated quite the mess. Instead of Erick making me feel stupid, for such a dumb thing to do, he helped me out and gave me some other tips and pointers. I paid a very fair, minimal charge and I went home and finished cleaning things up. Now my laptop is as good as new! I hope to never go back but if I need help..I'll go to Salem Geeks. read more

Great business! I've used them for years for things such as cleaning up my desktop and laptop, installing anti-virus and malware software, etc. Last week after a Windows update my laptop would only boot to a black screen. Nothing I did worked. Erick took the laptop in on Monday morning, and by the end of the day I'd already had a follow up phone call and two emails from him verifying my problem and also giving me an update. Tuesday morning I got another update. Mid-day on Tuesday Erick called with the problem fixed. He also found a few other strange issues (ex. one user's files was not getting backed up at all) which he also had fixed. The cost was extremely reasonable. Fast, efficient, knowledge service. In the early days I dealt with Jerod the owner, who was great but no longer in Salem. Currently, the scheduler Erick is very efficient and helpful not only in scheduling but has answered repair questions for me easily and in terms I can understand. Patrick who comes to our home to respond to my issues is very knowledgeable and also will have suggestions with upgrades unknown to me, thus helping me to get the most out of my electronic devices. My deepest apologies to Salem Geeks!!!! I wrote a scathing review of KFE Microsystems and somehow it wound up over here. I have a BS in computer science, worked on hundreds of computers, and build my own high end computers, so I consider myself knowledgeable. I have used Salem Geeks on my job and on my home made computers when work would not let me work on the computers there. I can say without hesitation they do great work at a great price. They also were able to find very unique motherboards that I nor several other computer shops in Salem could not find. I have dealt with three employees there and two of them are as nice as they come. I just got scammed by a bogus Microsoft site so called Salem Geeks to set things right. We have used Salem Geeks before and have always been pleased with the service. Darrel was the tech they sent to the door and he was terrific. Apparently they have FIVE calls a day on this sort of thing and it costs 2.6 billion dollars a year for the gullible. Darrel was very competent and friendly and as a bonus he gave me an incredible corned beef recipe in exchange for my sister's coconut granola cookie recipe. read more

For starters, let me say I don't know why this shop got any bad reviews. I have had 3 different computers repaired and tuned up by these guys, and for a fair price. Perhaps some people expect something for nothing, or expect a dead computer to be brought back to life for $20 or something like that. Well, my old XP machine WAS brought back to life and tuned up, data transferred to an external hard drive, etc, for less than one hour's time of most computer geeks or techs! It may not have been instantaneous, but just like with car mechanics, you can't expect the tech to ignore all of his other jobs just to work on your repair until it is finished. I also had an on-site, in-home repair/service of 3 computers by their geek, Patrick, and was amazed at how much he got done and how much money he saved me over going to stores to buy a bunch of new hardware I didn't need, and it was only $75.- for their service call ! This shop is more reasonable, friendly, and fair than any other computer repair shop in Salem that I know of,and I have tried a lot of them over the last 20 years. They would not still be in business if they had actually treated people unfairly. You can't believe every review that someone writes about a business, because some people think that a skilled person's time should be free, and they should work miracles free too... read more

Jerrod came out to my house the day after I called to make the appointment. He set up a home network so I could make full use of wi-fi to share files between my desktop and laptop. He also did some troubleshooting with regard to a problem I was having with the Windows search function. He was very knowledgable and easy to work with. Went to Salem Geeks almost two years ago to have the power port replaced on my laptop. My parents have used this place for years, so I thought it was a safe bet. First off, having to wait 5 min for someone to come to the counter should have been my first clue my second should have been the jewelry for sale in the front of the store. I told them the problem and they said it was an easy fix and would be done in a couple of days and was quoted a price. Numerous phone calls by me and 6 weeks later I got my laptop back. I was so pissed I had to have my partner pick the thing up. That's when things went from bad to worse. My partner, being the calm one paid the bill, which was $20 more than quoted. Looked at it that night after work and noticed that the keyboard had a nice bow to it....not assembled correctly and screws were missing. Not being a computer idiot, I was able to quickly fix the keyboard but I was not able to fix the fact that the thing now runs slower than one legged ant and crashes all of the time. I ended up replacing the 1 1/2 year old laptop shortly after because the quotes I got to diagnose and fix the thing, on top of what I paid the geeks was more than it originally cost to purchase it. These two have no business running a business let alone repairing computers. After my experience my folks used them again against my advice and now they too have a very slow running laptop that likes to crash. Stay away...we are. read more

WORST BUSINESS in Salem. These idiots lost my hard drive that had the only pictures and videos remaining of my mother who died from cancer. They still have NOT found it. Their first mistake happened when they returned my back-up drive with information including social security numbers and tax returns, as well as a random family's pictures of a cruise, glacier trip and tropical vacation. I could've easily stole their identity if I was a criminal. I returned that info and let them know what happened. I asked for a refund and they denied. I was told they'd keep searching for my information, then after 35 DAYS I called and they had forgotten about me and my circumstance. Then within a week I was offered a refund from a guy that was trying to be empathetic but was easily so fake and easy to see and feel that he actually didn't care at all and was putting up a cover. They ended calling me in with the good news that they had found my hard drive and were ready to issue the refund. I showed up and got the refund and was given a hard drive that was supposed to be "mine"; but it wasn't. It was AGAIN someone else's hard drive with secure information. What they DO NOT KNOW IS THAT I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL and will be hiring a attorney to file a claim against them. read more
