Company illegally uses Leaf Blowers within inches of people's homes. These have been illegal for over 20 years, so there's no excuse. This is the law in Los Angeles: GAS-POWERED LEAF BLOWER LAW (electric leaf blowers are permitted) Gas-powered leaf blower users and their employers, including HOMEOWNERS, face fines for each use of leaf blower if found in violation of the law. The law states that gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited within 500 feet of a residence. Penalties may exceed $300. Electric leaf blowers are still allowed. LAMC 112.04 (c): Effective on February 13, 1998 (c) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection (a) above, no gas powered blower shall be used within 500 feet of a residence at anytime. Both the user of such a blower as well as the individual who contracted for the services of the user, if any, shall be subject to the requirements of and penalty provisions for this ordinance. Violation of the provisions of this subsection shall be punishable as an infraction in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), notwithstanding the graduated fines set forth in L.A.M.C. Good Enough We employed this Company at our condo building for a few years and while the work started out strong the quality gradually tapered off over the years. The past year was especially bad. They promised things in their contract that would be attended to on a weekly or biweekly basis and a number of things would be completely ignored for months on end, shrub trimming, bamboo trimming, disposing of debris,etc. It turned into them just showing up once a week and mainly cutting some grass. When we asked for quotes on palm tree trimming that was outside of the scope of the contract they never responded. We finally decided to terminate the contract as an HOA and gave them a chance to finish out their contract well. We highlighted a number of issues that they promised to attend to on a weekly or biweekly basis and sent pictures of the problem areas. Alex took the notes and promised to share them with the team. However the following week again none of the issues were attended to other than cutting the grass. When Alex was asked about this he said that his team just didn't have enough time in the week to take care of what they had promised per the contract which honestly felt like a nice little F U for moving on to a more attentive landscaper. He did highlight however how his team had brought up an issue with a manifold a little while back which honestly felt akin to going to an oil change, having the service team do half of an oil change job and then bringing up other issues that could be upcharged and saying that they had done a good job. I know they are capable of good work as they started out well but it is just disappointing to know that a company can promise so much in a contract and deliver so little and still take the same monthly stipend. For short term work they may be good but for long-term contracts I would look elsewhere. read more

I am very pleased with the excellent job they did. I saw the work they did down my street. My front yard was a water saving wasteland. They made my front yard into my pride and joy. I later found out they make redwood fences and they delivered another high quality product. I once again found out they do stone work for my gazebo and again I was very pleased. Salazar gardening installed sod and automatic sprinklers in my front and back yard. My back yard was also another wasteland. The water system has excellent coverage and they used high quality materials. I am glad to give all my jobs to this company. My home looks great. They are very professional and I appreciate them finishing the job in time for my birthday party. I can't say enough and I hope I can refer business to them. Requested a quote for a drought resistant front yard and made an appointment for 7am Saturday morning. Since I work weekends I moved my schedule around to accommodate for the estimate. 7am came and went and they never showed up. I called around 9am to verify if they stilled planned on coming. I hired Salazar about 6 months ago for yard maintenance. Like all gardeners they do a great job in the beginning then it's a sharp downhill slope after a few months. In the beginning they were proactive and diligent. Now my yard's starting to look rough, and I've been hounding them for 45 days to complete a to-do list. Beyond impressed!!! We were looking to have our backyard done so our boys could have a place to play yet still be Cali drought conscious. My wife had quite a few places bid on the job. I will normally toss out the highest and lowest bids and start whittling down from there. Salazar Landscape was one of the lowest bids we had but was the best put together bid we had seen. So we asked Francisco to come back to go over their bid. After meeting Francisco and going over the bid I was blown away by his attitude and his vision. So I rolled the dice and bet on the man representing his company. I'm SO GLAD we chose to go with Francisco and his company. They repiped our sprinklers, incorporated the drip system I already had installed and improved it, added trim, added child safe wood chips, added a new water outlet, leveled out the yard, added the automatic sprinkler system, added new soil and seeded the lawn and many other little things. Some of the things were not even in the bid but he saw that it was needed and just did it without charging us. We added a few things at the last min and he gave us a new updated bid that was beyond reasonable. I needed to run pipe for power to my garage and he even left the trenches open and gave me a few days to get the pipe installed without complaining. His crew was extremely friendly with me, my wife and my kids. Most of the time we have found that the guy biding the job will show up for the bid and then again on the final hours to collect the check but Francisco was on the job site almost all the time and even worked with his crew. He was always there to answer any questions or messed up requests from us. He showed up a week latter to check the progress and adjust the water timer. They also did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. Really can't say enough about how great Francisco and his team made this experience. We can't wait to have him do our front yard. A+++++++++++ UPDATE: some spots on the lawn were never hit by the new sprinkler system they put in. I called, and called, and called and they would never call me back. read more

I can't emphasize how happy we are with Alex, Francisco, and the Salazar Landscaping team. During the initial consult, Alex and Francisco spent almost two hours with us to get a sense of what would work for our yards, time, and budget. When they returned with a proposal, it was comprehensive, reasonable, (i.e., no hidden charges) and included a digital representation of what the yard would look like, given their recommendations. Their workers were so professional and efficient, it's obvious they've all worked together for some time. After the project was complete, they even re-programmed our sprinklers to ensure that we didn't over/under-water. It's taken me three months to write this review and with the exception of a couple tropical plants that didn't survive the unusual cold snap, the plants are all thriving and beautiful. Unless you want to be overcharged and underserved, do not hire Salazar Gardening. They will promise you everything and deliver nothing. The first consultation is impressive. They send out the "A Team" and talk about all the wonderful things they are going to do to whip your garden into shape and keep it that way. They stress how proactive they are and how they are going to keep you in the loop about everything. Then it is all downhill from there. The A Team never shows up again; you get the B, C or D team for your weekly visit. Despite being a well organized gardening service, with email and automatic billing, these guys couldn't or wouldn't do the most basic tasks. They never deadheaded or pruned the roses or told us when they had fungus and were dying, they never took dead leaves off the plants, they never told us when plants were dead and needed replacing, nor did they tell us when animals were killing plants or when sprinklers weren't working. We had to point out absolutely everything to them, ask them to do the same thing week after week, and buy all the products they should have had to make our garden flourish. Their inactivity and lack of receptivity was staggering. Every plant they planted died, as did many that were planted before they took over. And whenever we asked them to do anything beyond mow, blow and go, they pointed to the pesky little contract they made us sign at the beginning (you have been forewarned) that basically said that everything beyond showing up and breathing costs extra. While a contract with a gardener struck us as weird, we signed it because we were desperate and did not read the fine print (our fault), which does everything to keep them from doing work, and nothing to protect you, the consumer. Funny how these guys are right on top of things when it comes to chasing down their money, but ever so forgetful when it comes to doing anything and everything that has to do with gardening. And let's not get started on their attitude. Don't waste your time or money on Salazar. read more

It wasn't very expensive to get the initial check and the cleaned up my yard very nicely. They said they would give us the same price as our neighbors who had the same service although our yard is larger and would usually cost more. It is $80 a month and split between me and my three roommates that's $20 dollars worth of getting our property manager off our back and one less thing we have to worry about. read more

I had a very good experience with Salazar Gardening. They installed sprinklers and grass in one area, drip lines for other areas. They suggested a french drain for a sloping backyard which they did as well and did a certain amount of leveling for the front and backyard as well. I dealt primarily with Francisco, who was thorough, thoughtful and detail oriented. He was kind enough to point out a leak that had nothing to do with his work and also removed some cement from an old garage foundation that my contractor was responsible for but did not do. Alex came around and measured-up. Indicated we'd receive a healthy chunk of change from the DWP in rebate form. Then the estimate arrived which was basically double the rebate. No breakdown for labor, no breakdown for materials, no breakdown for the rebate (which they were supposed to cover), no indication on a design or what they intended to do apart from placing around fifty potted California friendly plants. He indicated he would re-furbish the sprinkler system to a drip irrigation system. What, it's going to drip from the roof into the plant pots? Thanks, but no thanks. read more

I don't write that many reviews, but in this instance I must... Francisco gave me an estimate - he was knowledgable and nice. I liked him. The estimate was reasonable, and he was willing to work with me on a few things I wanted to add. Cool. We scheduled the work - for about 3 weeks later. I was on a time deadline -- I had qualified for the LADWP rebate - he knew this. I called to confirm the date a few days prior, but Francisco had to reschedule. So we did for a few weeks later. This time Francisco emailed me he had a death in the family, and needed to reschedule again. I was sympathetic.. no problem. We rescheduled for a third time. The third time he didnt show..... no call, no email, nothing. I called him that same day asking him to call me. No reply. It was ten days before my LADWP deadline would expire. He totally shafted me... leaving me in the lurch. WTF? Use them at your own risk... read more

These guys are amazing. They are so nice and flexible and easy to work with. Their prices range from low to fair depending on the service/item, but they are never high. They were actually my lowest quote for the wall I needed put in, and I really feel like they went above and beyond with the job they did. Their work is exceptional. I had them put in a wall made of railroad ties with a staircase in it, and it looks even better and more grand than I had hoped for. I also had them put in a two tone design made of gravel and bender board which I designed and they executed beautifully. I had some random items floating around my yard in the area they were working in, and they stacked them nice and neatly. They also took care in cleaning up after themselves, including blowing off any dust that accumulated on my driveway during the work. Francisco was my main contact, and I found him easy to get in touch with, easy to communicate with, and very kind. He even gave me some information on parts of the job that I opted to do myself. The other guys that were working were also very polite and considerate. I will recommend them to friends and family without a second thought. read more
