Darn that ugly carrot chip! Wrap with pita chips and balsamic dressing.
    Kathryn C.

Ok, I really like this place. Here are some know-how's now that I've been enough times to actually write something helpful. Like Alonti, if you've ever been, knowing where to line up and find certain things is challenging if you're new and a horde of hungry patrons in suits who hardly see daylight and probably have less time for lunch than you just popped up a nanosecond behind you. If they don't push you towards the beginning of the line, then you want to head far left from the entrance. Start with salad choice including, regular lettuce, spring mix or spinach and tell them whether you want a wrap or salad. (I will not list every single menu item they offer. That is what their website is for and I recommend a mock online order for first timers so you can get an idea of what they have.) Next, choose from a plethora of fresh and healthy fillers like cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, black beans, pumpkin seeds, grapes, strawberries, feta, cheddar cheese, chicken, shrimp and insert 30 more delectable ingredients good for the heart and colon. Meat will up your lunch a couple more dollars, so instead of $8-ish, you're looking at $11-ish. Next is dressing like ranch or balsamic vinaigrette. I always ask for the dressing on the side just in case I can't eat everything. I don't like soggy foods. Salads come with a piece of bread. If you ordered a wrap, tell them what kind of tortilla you want. If you're too afraid to ask what they have because you've already spent so much time picking out your toppings and the mass behind you has begun nipping at your ankles, pick wheat. Can't go wrong with simple. Before the tortilla comes out of the warmer oven, or while your salad is being tossed, ask for croutons or bacon if you desire. For some reason, these are at the end of the line. With a wrap they ask if you want chips. This is not a trick to get you to spend more money, the chips are included in the price of the wrap. The bad news is your only choices are plain pita or baked tortilla. I have not had the tortilla chips, but the pita is a bit bland for my taste. Dressing on the side, you have come in handy a second time. Finally, it's time to pay. So, go do that. If you feel you need a bag to carry your food in and to show off where you went for lunch, then you can help yourself at the counter opposite the cash register. You'll find napkins and other items there as well. Bon appetit!

My go to Salata location in Downtown, even when the line is long it always seems to go faster than some of the other ones around town.

Not very good experience. Salad was not tossed, bread was cold. The line was not even long, only 5 people in the line in total .

A big part of the decades long success at Local Foods has been their commitment to consistency…read more Their casual setting with excellent service is one thing, but quality executed food that is simple and seasonal will always go a long way. Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

Fabulous!! I was told by my colleague friends that this place was awesome and perfect for someone…read morelike me who is now both dairy free and (mostly) gluten free. After meetings we met and had a long lunch sitting outside on one of the two lovely patios. It was comfortable on a beautiful day. The person who took the order was very friendly and so was the manager who came around to check on our meal. One friend had the Thai steak salad and I had the veggie burger made with quinoa, beets and other vegetables. Wow...is what I will say!!! It was so flavorful and the focaccia bun (not gluten free) was incredible! Plus the double cooked fries were delicious! Oh, the side potato salad and kale salad were also delicious! I look forward to being back there next time I'm in Houston!!
