First, let me start by saying I am reviewing the brand new location in Gulfport. I could not find Salad Station in Gulfport on Yelp. I somehow talked my husband and 3 kids into eating dinner at salad station instead of their typical hamburger restaurant- yay me! This restaurant is extremely clean and they start off by having a disposable glove station for customers to put on gloves before touching any utensils. There are a few different lettuce types to choose from and so many topping choices!!! There are the typical tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and cheese. There is also a couple of different types of tomatoes, different salsa choices, roasted corn, black beans, olive salad, seafood salad, different meats (pesto chicken, grilled garlic chicken, chicken salad, taco meat, pesto chicken), different cheeses...you could literally make ANY kind of salad you would like. There are about 20 different dressing varieties. You can choose to have your salad chopped and mixed, or not. In addition to the salad, there is also several choices of soups and a small potato bar. The Crawfish Pepper jack Soup was absolutely delicious! Had the perfect amount of peppery bite! There is a drink station as well. In addition to the regular sodas, there a a few varieties of lemonade. I got the Blueberry Lemonade - yum! Not too sweet and had the perfect amount of puckering yuminess! Be careful though, it is all priced by weight. You could end up having a very expensive meal if you load up too much! For our family of 5, the meal was $72 with tip. There was plenty of staff and I am unsure what they were involved in at the time. There's also a $2.59 charge for a drink which I find perfect for the cup and you may also refill it. My complaint is since when do you pay $2.59 for your drink cup and it is nowadded on the weight scale with your salad when paying. Good things: Everything is fresh; there's been only one time in my many visits where some of the veggies looked like they'd been out for too long. There are so many options - I don't think you'd go in and not be able to find something that you'd want to eat. Not so good things: It's loud - the accoustics are ridiculous. It's cold and lab-like with heavy, loud, and uncomfortable metal chairs. Cashiers actually tell you that you have to leave a tip before the transaction is complete. Some will phrase it as "here is where you can leave a tip" and others say "it's going to ask you for a tip". Unfortunately everyone asks for a tip nowadays and many shouldn't be asking for it. I'm a frequent visitor and there's never been an instance where an employee has come by and asked me if I needed anything or if I was happy. I get the food myself, I pay the going rate (or higher) for my food, and I put up my tray myself. So in my opinion, it's a bit rich for Salad Station to ask for a tip when the overall environment doesn't line up a bit with standard, full service restaurants or even your standard cafe where someone is serving you. This location (D'Iberville) in particular likes to start shutting down at 7:30 prior to the 8pm closing time. This means that the workers are: - putting up the loud heavy chairs while customers are trying to enjoy their meal inside the amphitheater-like dining area. - putting up the majority of the food that you would like to purchase.
