The beach dogs were a highlight: friendly, chill, and so well-behaved that a few even napped at our feet during meals. Service at the restaurant was quick, and I ate there often -- the food was great and the Wi-Fi there worked well. I also felt really safe; there's someone stationed outside through the night. The rooms were comfortable, and the cleaning staff deserves special mention -- the woman who cleaned our room went above and beyond (she even organized my makeup one morning!). Everything was spotless, and the beds were super cozy. The main downside was the Wi-Fi in the rooms -- it barely worked, so I had to head down to the restaurant for a connection. We stayed in a suite, which looked a bit more spacious in the photos, so that was a small disappointment. There were also a few bugs and small critters (mosquitoes, crickets, lizards), but considering the off-grid, jungle-meets-beach vibe, it's understandable. Overall, it was a great stay -- beautiful setting, perfect location, and easy access to food, the beach, and town. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants a laid-back, scenic Tulum experience.

After having dinner at a nearby restaurant, we stopped by this place for round 2. We ordered some…read moredrinks, beers, ceviche, 2 lobsters, shrimp, and a tiradito dish. The wait was very long to get our food. It was nice to much on complimentary chips and salsa while we were waiting. Although the food was nicely presented, the food was not as fresh as the other place and not as flavorful either. The service was not very great, but atmosphere was pretty cool. I did enjoy our refreshing drinks though. I think this place is better for drinks and hanging out, not so much as a restaurant.

I've only been there twice and to be honest, I liked Canabrava so much, I went there for 3 great dinners and for a beatiful breakfast on the porch every morning. The service was not the greatest, but the food was great. We tried most of the entree items and everything was really tasty. I would recommend the catch of the day, which is usually - fresh Mahi Mahi. The steak and grilled dishes were great. The beers and mezcal flowed here, but it was always difficult to get our waiters attention. It is such a liesurely atmosphere in Escondido - it's hard to get too impatient when you're in paradise and the waves are crashing 200 yards from the restaurant. Try to get reservations and request a beachside table - these are preferred. I think the breakfasts here are also very nice. My friends had beautiful dishes, I prefer only coffee with the wonderful Pistachio mezcal crema (be sure to buy some bottles of this!!). I always snuck in a small bottle and had an excpetional pistachio coffee every morning to start the day - so damn good! I'm sure there are many, many great restaurants in Escondido, but for proximity to Zicatela, relaxing atmosphere, beach and great food - I highly recommend this spot and I will go there again on my next Escondido adventure.
