The chipotle spiced fish was sooo amazing! We had a fillet of dorado, coated in the chipotle spice blend, not overly spicy but jam packed with flavour. So my dad comes here all the time and he loves it, but in my case, I have mix feelings about this place, so this is what happened I thought they accepted credit cards, so I ordered food and a drink and whenever I finish the waiter told me no to worry and that I could come another time and paid him, which I think he was so sweet and kind also I was in shocked whenever he said that because I have never heard about a restaurant that you can pay them another time, he insisted on that really kindly, later, so I am extremely thankful for what he did, obviously I paid him the next morning and gave him a good tip, I think his name is Luis, so if is your waiter, please take care of him. Was passing through and looking for a delicious, traditional seafood place. This place had promising reviews so we decided to give it a shot. We were intrigued by the tuna steak everyone talks about, but unfortunately it's not in season. We ended up getting butter and garlic shrimp, one of their octopus specialty dish and some guacamole(not on the menu, but can still be order) I personally don't like seafood that much due to the "fishy" taste. The shrimps tasted fishy, I could taste the butter and little of the garlic. My friend said they tasted like lobster (‍) The dishes come with rice that I thought was over cooked. My friend ordered the octopus that was mixed with octopus ink, but sadly the dish was flat. No taste whatsoever. I'm no expert on octopus (since it makes me think of chewing on rubber) but that dish had zero flavor. The guacamole was flat too, but they brought us some salsa and lime and I fixed it to my taste. Overall the reason why I'm given them 3 stars it's because of the service; our waiter was awesome. Went with my significant other last night . It's a big open dining room with wooden chairs and bright white LED lights that unfortunately strobe as the fan blades turn under them. Really need to do something here! We got the impression that this is the spot where all the tourist go to experience local seafood. However there weren't any locals as customers last night Now the good news: the recommended fresh Mahi Mahi was grilled perfection! My wife's shrimp was very good. The small avocado salad each entree is served with was fresh and delicious too. The rice in tomato sauce was watery and we did not finish. Honestly the food was "okay"; but more importantly I just witnessed some very poor behavior by the owners. I am all about supporting local businesses', however this establishment was straight up ugly to a tour group of very nice people, which was brought here by a local fisherman. I was proud of the tour guide for having the whole group leave after one of the 12 people (who did not eat seafood) left to grab something next door and then was not allowed to bring in outside food. I understand that this would be typical practice in the US/Canada, however we are not in the US/Canada and he was "stuck" being the only one. It ended up being a yelling fight where the restaurant refused to budge. In general, bad behavior shouldn't pay off. read more

There were numerous tables empty and available and the waiter said he would put them together for my family. We then sat at two different tables and waited for the waiter to put our tables together. While we waited on two separate tables, the waiter started to take one of the table's order. I politely told him that we wanted the tables together since we were all there together and that we'd order once we were all sat together. He got upset. Instead of putting both tables together, he took other customers' orders and ignored me and my family. We waited 10 minutes and wondered when he'd put the two tables together. After waiting more than 10 minutes, we decided to leave. The entire time we waited, he completely ignored us. Nobody seemed to care. I spoke to the manager and told him what happened, but he said he did not know what had happened so he didn't do anything. We left frustrated and hungry. We asked around town and the locals told us to go to "el camarón borracho. " at the end, El Camarón Borracho" was the perfect decision. read more

They have the absolute best and freshest seafood of all the surrounding areas. This is a local hot spot that is only open from 1pm-8pm. We were visiting Huatulco for 1week and ate here 3 different time due to how great the food tasted and the great atmosphere. Waiters speak English and Spanish. We first dined here 11 years ago. The food didn't improve, because it's already excellent! What's new for us are the new tables and chairs and a brand new thatch roof. It's all outside, but the several ceiling fans create a breeze. Get the octopus, several different choices are available. It's great! Locally owned restaurant by a fisherman's family. It was such a good price-value spot that we went everyday we were in Huatulco. We also ate at the resort we were staying but the flavors didn't really compare to El Grillo Marinero! We had the red snapper (fish comes whole) and the shrimp "a la Mexicana" and the mixed seafood "ajo-mantequilla" which is butter-garlic flavored. One thing that I've noticed is that in Mexico anything that is finely chopped and seasoned (think taco fillings) is always really good. For this reason, I enjoyed the mixed shrimp and seafood both with the "a la Mexicana" flavor and the butter-garlic flavor more than I enjoyed the red snapper (even though that was excellent as well). Their micheladas and cheladas drinks were the best accompaniment with the food! It's no surprise why every time we asked a local to recommend a spot to eat, they would all point undoubtedly to the one and only Grillo Marinero. Provecho ! read more
