Just wow!! We felt very fortunate to snag a table here in our visit without a reservation, which is next to impossible. The owners have a little hidden gem in the woods on the outskirts of downtown zipolite. The service is impeccable and the food is remarkable and while you could say expensive for zipolite it is still beyond reasonable. I cannot wait to go back!!

Like a culinary oasis in a coastal desert, this is the place that gets my vote for "best restaurant" in this small, remote little coastal region tucked away on the coast of Oaxaca. The atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful, the service was gracious and on point. Cocktails were delicious, and the food was really good. The quality of food at this restaurant was by far, the best we encountered in this area. I had a Tlapeno sopa, delicious, a Chile relleno that was executed to crispy perfection full of 3 types of Oaxacan cheese. Others in our party had great steak, fresh Dorado, grilled, coconut crusted shrimp with mango salsa and several desserts that were equally fabulous. Highly recommend this place.

I had a reservation for New Years Eve which was also my husband's birthday and I wanted to do something special for it. I made the reservation via email with a two possible four top. I received a response "Ok! That's great. We'll do. Thanks !" from Javier. I decided on 12/30 while in Zipolite to stop by the restaurant to confirm my reservation and a special dessert. I was greeted by a man who seemed to be disturbed by my presence and proceeded to yell at me "NO" every time I ask him about my reservation. I told him I had confirmed via email my reservation for 4 and he said "NO!, only 2!" I told that was ok, since he lost his mind over it. Then I ask for something special for the dessert and he said condescending that maybe he can " put a little candle or something." This whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. I decided to check somewhere else (El Alquimista) which was very accommodating to my request. I am so thankful I didn't waste my money over at La Providencia. I found out from my host of my AirBnb that it was the head chef/co-owner/boyfriend of restaurant who I was being yelled at by. The restaurant is not that fancy for the attitude I received. The restaurant itself is on a corner of a dusty dirt road with lots of cars driving by. The space is kind of run down itself and loaded with mosquitoes, sewage smell and no where near the beach. I had a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration with my husband and two friends at El Alquimista on the beach with an amazing 4 course meal. It was a celebration to remember. I did bother canceling my reservation with La Providencia due to the ridiculous rude treatment from the chef/co owner. Hopefully Javier the co-owner will read this and correct this attitude and treatment for future customers.

Best food on Zipolite. Reservations needed. Portions could be larger, but the food quality and service are superb.

If I were to return to Playa Zipolite (universe favoring) I would stay here again. No, not because…read morethe beds were good (they're what you'll find everywhere, (at this price point?)). But because the room is clean, the location can't be beat, and the staff absolutely wonderful* and LGBT friendly. Beach-front views on the quieter (unless it's Saturday night) side of the beach. Unclear about nudity moving in/through the hotel, but no one minds you sitting on your patio in your birthday suit, if that's your vibe. The room is cleaned daily which feels great after all the sand you're gonna be trekking in. No TV (why, you won't miss it), generally spotty internet (as throughout the town), and a/c costs extra for the room (we made do without). Water only has one temperature, but its generally hot enough that you won't mind. *I needed hi-speed reliable wi-fi in a beach town not renowned for its "connectedness". Ask the staff, and the owner himself comes up to install an add-on that can get me through my Zoom meeting. Easy-going but most helpful and welcoming, they made the stay.

The dish arrived with three full halves piled high, and absolutely delicious. It is worth returning for. Beer is not on the menu, so we had wine. On return visits found the juice excellent. I believe you can bring in beer from outside to go with your meal. Good friendly service and reasonable prices. WiFi seemed to work well.

Separated only by a small offset of rocks you can climb over, Playa Manzanillo sits to left of Angelito & has a much more beautiful beach that backs up into the cliff with many tropical plants & palm trees surround. The beach itself is very small but is at least 5 feet deep soon as you enter. Making it the perfect beach for adults to gather round in & socialize. There is also some great snorkeling around the rocks. I saw a giant sea turtle & a eel one day. Very cool! :)) There are many cute restaurants that provide lounge chairs, umbrellas, food & drink service that have very good food & as long as you purchase drinks & food you can use the lounge chairs & umbrellas for free. This is my favorite place to go sit beachside, have a leisurely lunch, have a coco frio and/or a few beers or margaritas & go for a swim. It's mostly Europeans, locals & a few tourist. Some local guitars players usually come by that 'play for pay' & a few others selling their handmade goods. It's pretty laid back & peaceful which I adore. If you like a laid back clothing optional beach where you can UNPLUG & UNWIND, just have a peaceful, chill day in paradise with the love of your life or your BFF, you will love Playa Manzanillo. It gets pretty packed on the weekends so plan accordingly. Recommend for Adults Only.
